Just in case you haven’t heard….
10,000 Days, Tool April 19th, 2006
The inevitable has happened and 10,000 Days has leaked. Before you all start flooding me with questions:
- I won’t be posting a link on Fourtheye
- Yes, it sure is real
- If you do download it, make sure you purchase the CD.
- Be aware that Fourtheye, TDN, Toolnavy, etc are all experiencing heavy traffic, so if you can, hold back for a while and try not to refresh too often.
- Expect a mini-review later today
Enjoy!

I’m trying not to download it, but it’s so hard. I even wanted to write a review…. !@#$%
I’m downloading its too tempting. However I’m still going to buy a couple copies at the local midnight release, of course.
i cant belive it…it sounds so recycled o.O just like vicarious did… its a bit of best of tool, guess they took elements from every album. one track really reminded me of part of me…i really hope its a decoy
where can ya download it from
jas your an idiot =[
READ THE POST
its so awesome…
hehehe
will buy for sure.
fuck man this is some amazing shit!
I was worried about the single, but man the rest fucking own.
definitely different, and it’s gonna take much more years to absorb than lateralus fo sure.
expect a review soon….
everything u need was postet on fourtheye… just search the comments!
i love 10,000 days(wings2), it builds up the atmosphere a whole time and has this timed breakout.
all in all i have to agree with des, its a sort of combination of all tool styles
can someone send me a link
Rest assured, I will purchase this album for full price. So, hopefully Volcano won’t flip their lid and do something stupid…
This album is at the limite of the perfection… i am surprised… i would be, i am… Some Pink Floyd influences… this is what i was expecting !!!
I will buy it… fuck yeah ! Of Course !!!
Jas, no one is going to post you a link to the torrent, all you have to do is spy for it and you will find it.
The pot sucks. And maynards vocals will take some getting used to.
Its our moral responsibility to support the artist we admire. I am sure that the TOOL members will be pissed at this happening, because they were pretty active in the anti-piracy thing. They will probably be even more pissed at their so-called fans who spent the time and effort just to rip them off. I hope this doesn’t convince them to rethink any more albums…
I think the album is exactly what i was waiting for and makes vicarious seem like a joke. The album is absolutely epic and Right in Two now has my vote for most amazing tool song ever…Period.
True fans will buy the album.
i am not goin to download it but buy it at midnight. But could u tell me if it still haves the kick ass time signatures
Indeed.
I’m gonna wait…
unless somone burns it for me at school
hehe, cant download that shit with 56k anyways….
hah, im gonna beg somone to burn it….*sigh*
DEFINATLY will buy on may 2nd though!!!
Live From The Front Line…
“10,000 days in the fire is long enough, you’re going home…” Holy fuck.
‘Wings for Marie’ is blowing my mind.
So the album just leaked about an hour ago. Earlier today at work I had read a post by someone claiming to be in Canada, who happened to work for a record store that just so happened to be getting two regional promotional copies of the album at some point later in the day. Everyone called bullshit.
Then about 75 minutes ago, the ToolNavy boards started to go crazy. One post: “The album has leaked.”
Banned. Moderators — who knows how many were recruited for the task this late in the game — jumping on the slightest mention of the album. People immediately attempted to talk in code in order to safely discuss what was starting to happen between computers across the globe. Banned. Banned. New threads blown to a million bites before a single fellow poster had even seen that it had been created.
Eventually nothing could be said. The last new thread I saw posted was titled “It’s eerily quiet around here…”, and the poster wondered aloud why no was was speaking to each other anymore.
Then the board became unviewable by non-members for the first time ever. Another major Tool board is destroyed by multiple login attempts somewhere in the states.
By now Tim had spent about 20 minutes scouring the net for the album — now completely without the aid of any Tool discussion boards posting links to it.
It first appeared on torrent sites requiring membership, but it continued to spread, exponentially picking up speed as it became available for the first time to a slightly lower caste of internet users. Then it was our turn. It came to us. Oh… this is interesting. Maynard is singing like a woman. Fuck. This is going to get ugly. Ugly fast. (That is if the boards ever even come back online — ever.)
TOOL has taken a page out of Radiohead’s book. Notice I’m capitalising them again. This is important.
This is not TOOL folks. At least not the TOOL you knew. Immediate questions spring to mind:
Is it crap? Is it the biggest flop in the history of music? One of the biggest disappointments of your life? Sure, there have been moments of genius so far, but they seem to be few and far between. The soundscape is just so different. It is then that the secrecy surrounding the album becomes clear. Visions — of Radiohead playing ‘Kid A’ on headphones to nervous music executives in the back of a moving van before its release — spring to mind.
Or rather is the genius hidden inside somewhere? Deep inside? A gem you have to dig at to get? Like all classic albums, they grow on you slowly. They have to in order to have longevity. You’re shocked at first. Saddened. Disappointed. This is not what you’ve been listening to for the past few years. This isn’t what you told yourself it would be like. Like the first time I listened to ‘Lateralus’. It wasn’t ‘Aenima’. Or the first time I listened to ‘Kid A’. This isn’t Radiohead. What’s going on here?
But then something changes along the way, and you begin to see the genius lurking just behind the growing pains the band just forced you through. The production becomes clear, the attempt to completely shatter what was expected finds weight — what was demanded by a public hungry for more of the same, hungry like few other music fans in the world, was tossed aside. Almost casually. The pressure. How do we respond? We don’t give them an album like the last one. We can’t. You can’t go backwards. You can’t give them a crappier version of the album they’ve fallen in love with over the years. It’s what 99% of bands out there do.
If you’re lucky enough to love a really great band, you’re given change. It is their ‘blues’ album — a blues album with a massive and constant atmospheric-soundtrack playing as a score to the sadness.
But wait. So which is it? Crap? Genius?
I wish I knew music well enough to tell you on the first listen — but I don’t.
It will take time. Time I look forward spending reacquainting myself with an old friend.
Which gives all you out there time to hear about things other than TOOL. You can rejoice now.
That about sums it up…
im so bummed that it leaked.
i guess as long as people are buying the cd there is no harm.. that’s the logic i used to make myself feel better about downloading vicarious… but man… i dont think i would even want to hear the album until may 2nd. ive been so excited this whole time… i had a countdown going lol… it was fun, the whole waiting and the excitement. i think i’ll just keep waiting.
Great review Jeff …….
nothing is worth respecting anymore apparently
@eviLempress
You’re not alone. I’m pretty bummed as well. There really seems no point in waiting anymore.
Imagine how the band feels. ~:/
This album is my ‘darkside of the moon’ from TOOL!
sure i will buy it. One for me and another one for
TOOL! They are back…
How the band feels?
Their fans are frothing and scrambling for their product, I would assume, if they aren’t money hungry bastards, feeling pretty good.
Either way, they should make the same or more album sales as before, and every concert they play will be sold out, what more can you ask?
I’ll buy 2 copies, what they do with the artwork is reason enough to have a copy.
vicarious – Collaborative International Dictionary of English

[1913 Webster + PJC]
definatly buy the album on May 2nd, just maybe we two Tool albums in less than 6 years.
Seriously, what site can it be downloaded from?
It’s not that hard to find a link……
What the fuck is wrong with you people? THIS IS THE ONLY ALBUM! THERE IS NO DECOY! Vicarious is a fucking song name. it has no hidden reference to the REAL album. Get over it, this is the new Tool. If you don’t like it, go away and never come back.
“But wait. So which is it? Crap? Genius?”
Not something you want to hear in a review. I’ve been with this band since Opiate, but I’ll need to sample some of the other songs before blowing $16.
wtf is going with the song the pot. that song fucking blows
I can’t find a link anywhere
“But wait. So which is it? Crap? Genius?”
this happens every time a new tool cd gets released, the fact that the reviewer asked this tells me all is right and im in for another classic, pre-ordering and downloading now!
Wow, goodness gracious, I was kinda bummed when i heard Vicarious the first 20 times, even posted some negative comments about it, but damn, that was just the beginning. I am so happy to report that the rest of the album slaughters Vicarious. V sounded like old tool to me, almost a track that didnt make it on Lateralus…. hold on fellas, this is gonna rock your world
interesting to me that you have no qualms about posting the artwork, clearly copyrighted material if there ever was any, and clearly legitimate if you have a single tool bone in your body you know it, but you try to paper it over with a thin veneer of integrity by censoring leak info for the music itself… just a personal inquiry i thought you might explore.
can someone just please post a link
oh man it sure is real. I’m still in the download process and I’m feeling guilty, but I’m going to buy the album anyway. For you people trying to find it, it’s not hard. If you’re really having so much trouble, unscramble the word for a hint: rnoerto
WOW,, a 68 minute “third eye” with a single to start it off, wow….
I presume that comment is directed at me, and I can tell you have have debated the issue in my mind on several occasions.
Personally, the decision I have made is that since I profit from the site in no way, there are no moral reasons why I should not post such information. If I was making money off the site (and hence from Tool’s material) then I sure would consider that a copyright violation.
Essentially all I provide is a resource for Tool fans to use in order to access information easily, rather than spend hours trawling though the internet. I feel no guilt or remorse about providing such a service.
Regarding links, sure I could try and put a finger in the dyke and censor all comments etc. but really what difference would it make? Again people who download to new CD are people who will find it anyway, regardless of whether I post about it or not, and there’s really very little I can do about that. I certainly don’t feel like using every ounce of my spare time trying to plug the countless links that will come through.
Matt
anyone who says the new album isnt good needs to shut up. tool, unlike any other band, focuses on letting their music evolve. To me this is what makes TOOL true artists, they say “screw convention” and let their style grow and change and enter new sound scapes. true fans will go along for the ride and buy the new album. so everyone who isnt willing to accept the new album…. *** off
After listening through 4 times, I have decided it is a REALLY good album. Nothing really stands out but as a whole it rocks. The more I listen the better it gets, like every tool album.
Ok, so I’ve looked on Napster, Bittorrent, LimeWire and ITunes and I can’t find this album anywhere. Someone want to help a brother out?

You said it bobby. How dare people who don’t like it voice their opinion! I guess since you like it, EVERYONE must like it.
Jeff: great review – exactly how I feel after listening the first time through. I’m sure after a few more listens the songs I didn’t like too much on the first listen will grow on me. I’m sure it will land in the genius category for me. Definitely like the Pink Floyd influence.
leaked? why do these tools always give away their cds prerelease to dodgy radio stations? why not just say… we’ll be releasing the album on the 2nd may… and will be playing the whole fucking album that day. no samples no private interviews no nothing. seal the record in a vault and open it on the 2nd of may.
gee whiz. they were asking for it.
what the fuck ya talkin about the pot goes off
Jeff your review was terrible, a bunch a melodramatic bullshit. Tool said all along that this is their “blues album”, thus it was obvious that it would be a lot more subdued in certain aspects. The only thing people are bitching about is the vocals, who gives a shit, the singer is probably the least talented member of the band. This isn’t like Kid A, the genious isn’t hidden, its everywhere, this album isn’t just slightly better musically, its expontentially better than anything they’ve ever done before. It completely solidifies the fact that Danny is tbe best drummer alive today. I can’t even imagine what an incredible experience 10,000 days is going to be live. Lucky for me I only have to wait 22 more days.
Yes, I agree with most who have posted so far:
THIS ALBUM GETS BETTER AND BETTER EACH TIME YOU HEAR IT!!
It definitely grows on you…
I just feel sorry for the band that their album has leaked and that SOME will not actually buy it just so they can save a few dollars…
I’m gonna buy 2 copies to make up for it!
youre all tools. Meriahdeth 666 are Tool X 10 to the power of Pi.
ok, lovin the single, am not going to download the album but can someone explain this whole Pink Floyd thing?? I have heard it so much and its really confusing me. Floyd are a top 10 band for me along with tool, so whats the go, how do these guys sound alike? explain….
pink floyd suck too! hahahaha
and so do you! hahaha (see how the phrases rhyme??? seeee?) fucker
so does gravity! Hahahahahahahaha! Gravy!
(see that ryhmes about as well as yours!)
I don’t know what people are expecting. this is the most mature album from this group yet, what other direction could they take? Tool and Opeth are so far ahead of the game, they’re advancing the genre. This is why it took so many years. Now it’s only a matter of time before joe blow public gets a clue, and we’ll start seeing more art as opposed to massproduced bile.
this album musicly is so far ahead of anything they have done before. It kicks ass. And the vocal are very emotional. You get a sad feeling after hearing the album
“wtf is going with the song the pot. that song fucking blows”
If you were born post-1980, you might not get “The Pot.”
I am blown away by the entire album. My copy has been paid for via Amazon.com for a month, and I’m not cancelling it. Definitely a Pink Floyd influence, And Adam has finally realized that he’s the god he is. It is their blues album. Absolutely mesmerizing & breathtaking. I’m on listen number six.
can someone explain me, whats the exactly meaning of”10,000days” and whats it about ?had some problems to understand maynards words…i’m german so blame me for my bad english…
all im saying is that anybody who’s read an interview, (or is even a real tool fan) knows how much the band put into this record. and also you know how much they went through to keep it under wraps until it’s intended date for release to the public. so yeah, i think it’s a little disrespectful. but like i said… people can listen to whatever they want and i suppose as long as you intend to buy the album there isn’t any *real* harm. just seems that it sucks the fun right out if it… the album is a package deal.. music.. art… maybe words… meant to all be seen at once.
not to mention… tool (i feel) is one of the few… maybe ONLY… bands left in the modern rock world that is real, uncompromising, and won’t shove crap down our throats just to make a quick dollar.. yes they are business men… but they make their ‘product’ worth every dollar. and i just think it’s amazing how fast everyone was ready to say ‘screw what they wanted, i need this album NOW’. it was only 14 days. that’s all im saying.
I downloaded this from a torrent site last night and have listened to it all the way through a couple of times. I have not ONE but TWO copies on pre-order…one is for a friends birthday present.
I LOVE this new CD. Whoever posted that this is recycled Tool has lost their mind. This is, as always, Tool evolving and becoming something better. Great soundscapes on the instrumental (ambient) songs. They reamind me a LOT of Godspeed you Black Emporer. Fantastic songs. I love the song Right in Two…sounds like commentary on war and the human race…GREAT stuff!!
i dint know what to do to hear the new stuff some plse give me a clue
i don’t like it
All you need to do is a Google search on Tool 10,000 Days torrent…probably the first or second hit will be a site that has it. Sign up for that site and follow the instructions on how to download the torrent.
walrus: Great commentary. What about it don’t you like?
Anyone found the lyrics yet?
i’ve been a tool fan from the begining. when their music was so different than all others. when even mtv played there video( probably not sure what to think) and gained more fans. tool is the one band you can RESPECT. they work hard to produce a type of music that is different and touches people. their meesgaes aren’t right in your face, they come from behind and whisper in the wind and let you find it, then put in your own terms.
i’m not going “all holy” right now, but i know that everyone only wants this music because they have patiently waited for 5+ years. it’s really that simple. stealing is stealing. BUT, if you truly love and respect this band, do them the favor for all their hard work, BUY THE CD.
i too downloaded vicarious. i wanted to hear what was already released own my own and not have DJ’s spilling their uninformed BS during the open and end of the track. so i DID download. is that stealing, sure. BUT I WILL BUY THE WHOLE ALBUM.
is there harm in all this, sure. the band will hear about this leak and think that it’s out of control. truth be know, probably 2% of the fan base will go through the trouble of finding and downloading, especially with less than two weeks to go. i don’t believe that any of you are doing this to screw the guys over. most simply want to hear it so bad because all of you have waited so long.
BUY THE ALBUM!
enjoy it. if you don’t like it, then you got what you wanted…something to bash. if you’re not happy, then no harm no foul (you didn’t waste your money). BUT HOW DARE SOME OF YOU SLAM THIS AFTER NOT PAYING SHIT, THEN POST IT.
how about keep it to yourself. let others experience it for themselves. let others “be surprised opening their christmas gift” after waiting so long without ever peaking.
love or hate it, it’s their gift to us. if you had the balls to steal it early…be happy that you did and support the band.
I agree with you txbossman. If you download it you should buy it…even if you DON’T like it. The only way bands can keep making music is by making money. CD sales makes up the vast majority of their income.
I don’t typically download music but I could not resist hearing this one. I have two copies on pre-order (one for me and one for a friend). I’m not going to “share” the copy I downloaded with anyone else.
A Tool release really is a complete package. The artwork and the lyrics will be a huge bonus when I receive my copy. Of course, the music is paramount…but I can’t wait to see the packaging.
>> can someone explain me, whats the exactly meaning of”10,000days”
I’ve only listened to it a couple of times, but it seems to me that it’s Maynard’s eulogy to his mother. Ironically, the APC song ‘Judith’ was a rather scathing damnation of her religious beliefs, referring to the god who left her paralysed. Well since then, Judith Marie has finally passed away having spent 10,000 days in paralysis as the result of a stroke. I think the ‘wings’ are supposed to be those of an angel. I may be off with the meaning, but it’s my interpretation and I’m sticking to it until I hear a better one! A truly moving song.
i try one download but get some wanna bees is it realy out there? im going to buy it and see them live but just dieing to here some new stuff from
tool
For whoever asked a few posts up: The meaning of 10,000 days.
According to wikipedia, maynards mother suffered a stroke and was paralyzied for 27 years before dying, which is approximatly 10,000 days. Thats wiki, I dont know if its true or not.
I won’t download and wait the album.
Zozo: Very interesting. If you do a search on 27 years, you’ll also see that many rock musicians died at age 27:
Kurt Cobain
Jimi Hendrix
Jim Morrison
http://www.yuppiepunk.org/2005/03/rock-stars-dead-at-27.html
you cant justify the fact that you are stealing the album…that blows damn………..well i see theres still some true fans out there but as far as i go….thoe tempting i wont download it…ill buy it
i applaud everyone who decided to wait. it will be well worth it on may 2nd.
i have no beef with those of you who downloaded, please buy it though… i want to keep hearing tool in the future. they are worth more than a bunch of free mp3s.
I didn’t like Vicarious but after about 10 listens you can’t help but like it. You gotta listen to Tool to unravel the mystery but does overlistening make your brain like it?
does the time next to the comments say april 20th because it’s australia?
if so, happy 420 to all my friends down under.
James: Holier than thou prick!!
Got it! Wooooooohooooooooo….. Obviously will be buying since its bands like Tool who deserve my government donated money lol… At least the internet saves you from going out and buying a shit album then feelin depressed cos you coulda got the beers in etc… instead… we have Tool! Go Tool!
I’m tempted to download the album knowing that I will pick up a copy on May 2nd regardless.
However, I decided not to because of the nature of BitTorrent. In order to download a file with BitTorrent you have to simultaneously upload bits of the file that you have already received. So, by downloading the file via BitTorrent you are helping other people download it, and those people may not be planning to pay for the album.
BitTorrent can’t function with a small number of people sharing a file, so do Tool a favor an d don’t download.
Good things are worth waiting for, and paying for.

The new album blows ass. Whats up with the POT? Red Hot chili peppers write that song?
Damn, I’ve had this thing on repeat all night/day, and I must say, I like this album quicker than i liked Aenima and Lateralus. It just grabbed me and sucked me in. Perhaps their best album. Everyone is knocking “The Pot” – that song makes me feel like i can run through a brick wall it’s so bad ass. Chili Peppers? Sheesh, where did that come from?
You guys have got to be f**king kidding. I understand the mentality of waiting until the album is released, and I can understand respecting the artist’s wishes in regards to that, but saying that someone’s not a true fan just because they don’t churn out the $16 for the CD? Does anyone have a clue how much it actually costs, per CD, to make and market an album? The figure is right around $0.25. I don’t think that Tool is actually hurting for money at this point, and I honestly don’t feel bad about downloading any of the music that I have on my hard drive, including this. You want a pointer on how not to have your sh*t pirated? Check out Fugazi. You can buy all of their CD’s direct from the band for no more than $10/each. Look at Best Buy, though…Fugazi CD’s are $12-$15/each. Where does all that extra money go? Best Buy. When you pirate a CD from the ‘net, the only person that you’re really screwing over is the fat cat record executive that’s making $millions a year. The artists only really make money when they’re on tour, they get a small percentage of album sales. Try learning something about the music industry for a change. Oh, and just for the record, I do plan to buy the CD. Not for the music, mind you, but for the artwork. Tool are one of the few artists that actually put thought, effort, and passion into their packaging instead of churning out crap like everyone else.
am i the only one reminded of “hooker with a penis” by the lyrics of the song “the pot”?
why buy for the artwork when you can just download it off the internet? lol
to logic of some!!!!!!
i’m not slamming anyone who couldn’ wait 2 little weeks. so be it. what’s done is done. the industry should protect themselves better.
but what i don’t like is someone calling it shit after getting a FREE download. (you got what you paid for, SO SHUT UP)
like a homeless man bitching about the free food he just got.
I AM VERY LET DOWN!! 5 YEARS FOR THIS CRAP?? TOO MUCH APC INFLUENCE!! I HOPE ITS JUST A DECOY OF SOME TRACKS THAT DIDNT MAKE THE CUT FOR THE REAL ALBUM?? I HOPE IM RIGHT!! WHAT A LET DOWN!! TOOL IS CAPABLE OF BETTER!! (LATERALUS REMAINS THE GRAND CHAMP)
I’ve listened to it 4 or 5 times now. Here’s my take:
Vicarious : It’s the obligatory radio single. I didn’t like Schism much either.
Jambi : Damn. What a song. This song is bustling with emotion. I loved this song the first time I heard it.
Wings pt 1 & 2 : After 4 or 5 listens, these two together have become what I think is some of the best music Tool have ever made.
The Pot : I dunno, still don’t really like this song. But aenima and lateralus had their goofy out of place songs too.
Lipan Conjuring : Transition
Lost Keys : More transition?
Rosetta Stoned : Aggressive. Crunchy. Loud. Little of everything. The song drags on a little though.
Intension : Cool song. Very meditative. A great instrumental piece.
Right in Two : This song has sloooowly grown on me. Heh. I guess all the talk of monkeys is a little weird, but it works.
Viginti Tres : I guess this is the standard building noise track?
All in all I’d say this set isn’t what I was expecting. But honestly, what was I expecting? If everything was always what I was expecting than the world would be a very boring place and I’d never get excited about anything. This album is sad at its core. Almost every song deals with Maynard’s mom’s life and death. The first half of the album is very powerful. Even Vicarious (which despite its radio sound, is a very fast, angry, uncompromising way to kick things off). The album seems to wander a bit for the second half, and then Intension and Right in Two bring it back a bit. Throughout the whole cd, there is a fresh, tangible feel to almost every track.
In the end, I have to admit that I’m regarding 10,000 Days as some of the best work Tool has done to date.
heyd:
you make some good points, but i don’t want to steal from a band who has done so much for me through their music. and although you may be right about the cost of a cd, i would definitely say that their music is worth sixteen dollars to me lol, at least. but who am i to say anything?
aside from the whole downloading controversy.. 50% of why im choosing to wait is because i feel like it would be lookin at all my presents two weeks before christmas. where’s the fun in that?
i guess i shouldnt say anything re: downloading.. i’ve done it a time or two..
i cant find the album can anyone help me????
The vast majority of Tool fans are very intelligent individuals who offer insightful reflection on songs and really TRY to understand the music and the lyrics and put them together. Others are likeKangarooLipstick and itoolzer and just bash everything without giving it a chance. You can’t honestly say you’ve given this CD a real good dissection in one day. If you don’t like it, listen again, try to dig deeper. Tool has always offered so much and MOST of it is not on the surface. IMO, if you can dismiss 10,000 Days in ONE day…you never really got Tool to begin with.
A rush of excitement overcomes me as I remember coachella is in 11 days. . . .
VICARIOUS.
Doesn’t it bother anyone that VICARIOUS sounds toooooo much like a mixture between the riffs from SCHISM and Aperfect Circle’s BLUE?
the lyrics are so unlike maynard, they’re so damn shallow. nothing esoteric or hidden within this radio friendly song. oh well i guess they’re running out of ideas. had to happen sooner or later. And all you diehard fans can deny it all you want… the fact is theyre running out of the creativity. an inevitability.
stinkfist was WHAM. the GRUDGE was BAM. VICARIOUS is doof doof dum.
Sounds like APC’s Blue? Man you must be taking more drugs than Tool….
jesus fn’ christ about vicarious.
IT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE THE REST OF THE RECORD!
“tim posted the following:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/t9e4mo“
Can someone tell me exactly how to get this file to play? Okay, it downloaded just fine but when I try to click on and play it this XviD installation thing comes up. It asks me what language I want the setup in and whatnot and then proceeds with this supposed installation. Then when it “finishes” it does nothing at all to that extent that I’m aware of.
Can I have some help? Oh and by the way, I plan on buying the CD when it comes out anyway, probably two just to make up for this one, you know?
Thanks.
The album may be leaked, but they’ll get lots of money from it still. Take the most recent System of a Down album, for example. It was leaked a week or two before release, but it still shot to the top of the charts when it came out.
There are three types of fans that a band has:
1) The complete fanatics. Will download a record the second after it’s leaked, but will go out and buy five copies in the store to support the artist.
2) The ones who don’t follow the band that well, but when they see the new album in stores will pick it up (if they have the money).
3) The types who rip them off by stealing it off the internet, claiming that they’re “fighting the system.”*
Group #2 usually makes up the largest percentage of an artist’s fan base, and each one is usually going to buy a copy of their record. Group #3 will not buy anything, but the fanatic purchasing of Group #1 will more than make up for that loss. So calm down, guys. Tool’s going to get plenty of cash from this.
*Their claims usually state that it only costs 25 cents to manufacture a CD, but the evil record companies pass it off for $18 because they’re evil. But if you were to truly put a price on the works of a band like Tool, you’d have to spend your life savings just for Aenima. Lateralus would be worth more than a third world country’s GDP. I look at it as more of a bargain, don’t you think?
>>Jonas: stinkfist was WHAM. the GRUDGE was BAM. VICARIOUS is doof doof dum.
Now, there is some insightful commentary. Your use of the English language is astounding. Please tell us more of this “wham, bam, doof doof dum” that you speak.
Fucking retarded troll…
If you really want to support the band financially, sure go and buy their CD.
But the big buck from them come from concert tickets and merchandising. If you want to make sure Tool see some money for their efforts, make sure you go to the shows, and while you’re at it buy a T-Shirt.
hush hush keep your pants on old boy!!
did my comments hurt that much? its nice to see people nit pick on my playful selection of words. very childish… hence the irony of pointing the finger.
everytime you point your finger, 3 more point right back at you old boy. try and figure that one out. it rings true every time.
P.S note that i having a ball here on fourth eye. everyone’s getting all worked up and using the f word like. guess the f word is the second most used word in the dictionary. the first being MASTERPIECE
jahahahahahaha
Glad to hear you don’t think the site sucks any more then!
Could someone please help me out here? I don’t think I’m being too much of a bother and if someone can help me it’ll only take one post.
you see… we’d love to help. but you’ve already wasted one post… so no we can’t help anymore.
if we were to help you… then we’d look like complete tools for being easily misled.
you should know that april fools is on the 1st of April not on the 20th. hope that helps for next years april fools. hahahahaha
Wow, that made a lot of sense… Anyway, some help would CERTAINLY be appreciated.
hey einstein.
why do you keep asking for help without actually stating what you need help for?
as far as we can tell. you could be asking help on how to clean up after anal sex?
is that too hard to swallow?
to make it clear for you… just fire away with your questions… anything. i’m sure hellboy will be more than delighted to help.
gee you lot are amazing.
I did state what I needed help for. Look up at the comment I posted at 11:50… on April 20th.
kthxbye
gee… another “can someone show me how to steal???” question. i knew it all along! i knew it it was the ONE!
you know that idiot from the movie matrix? neo? you know the guy who show’s him what the matrix is? what’s his name? the black bald guy with stupid shiney round sunnies? yeah him… you know him. go do http://www.download.com and search for him. get the software and wham bam thankyou mam.
obviously no one can be told what the matrix is… you’ll have to see it for yourself.
hope that works out. you stupid tool.
Despite your discouragingly obnoxious attitude, all I can really state I guess, is: thanks.
hey jonas u must think ur pretty tuff insulting people and music u know little about. So why don’t go to whatever trailer u crawled out of and wash ya greay metal head hair faggot
greasy
actually to your initial question. i think i am what you think i am not. meaning i am all that i am that you think im not.
hahaha. does that answer your questions?
try and weave your phrases next time. try and take the time to construct your insults so they form like a tightly knit garmet.
right now youre just throwing a ball of strings in my face. very quaint.
What the Hell? This Morpheus thing isn’t doing shit for me, just bringing up a bunch of wannabes. And how can I use that with this?
http://www.sendspace.com/file/t9e4mo
hahaha what a TOOL. hahahahahA
if your screen is blank… its cause you havnt powered up the computer yet. what is a computer you might ask? its the box that one uses to view free porn and assorted other wonderful things.
*can’t help but laugh
if you didnt know… i’ll state the obvious… i was using special code to tell you the program’s name. obviously you’ve blown that away. so i guess youre up the creek on your own. hopefully (black bald guy sofware) will not be shut down because of it.
OUT.
It’s Morpheus. I got your “code.” It isn’t doing shit for me and my problem.
You — my friend — are worthless. Forget your help, I’ll ask someone else.
And yeah, it’s pretty pathetic I’m asking how to steal an album; but then again it’s pretty pathetic there aren’t many artists out there as good as Tool. Trust me, I NEED to hear this. Besides, I plan an buying the CD anyway.
I don’t see any big deal about it, personally.
Soi if anyone besides this Lindgren fellow can help me, I will be very appreciative of it.
That’s all I can really do to be honest.
Hey Gravija, – check your email….
justifications… i just love them.
thus judas says “if it werent for me there would be no christianity”.
thus i say “sure sure, sure, but that doesnt refute the fact that youre a backstabbing bastard… besides look at all the horrors that followed because of the cruxifixion? you and jebus are in the same boat buddy.”
just a question, are you kind of like totally obsessed with that link you keep posting? forget the link and just use “black-bald-guy” software. give it a few days and i’m sure itll be there. you can’t do anything with the link unless you have an IRC software tool. go to wikipedia.org and search for IRC or IRC software tool. you could sink a battle ship with the info you’ll find.
gee you give people help and they give you the finger for it. besides we are talking about the ends justifying the means arent we? i may be a rude twat but i sure am helpful arent i? who else is helping your sorry ass you oblivious air head!
nhabhajhaha
Ok, that’s about enough. IP’s blocked until I feel like unblocking it….
Thank you Hellboy, very much.
what if i use multiple computers? with multiple IPs? or a black box so that you can’t track my iP? you know i AM a super computer nerd
Meh, if that’s what floats you boat….
ok first try didnt work, anyone care to explain why they think 10000 days has Pink Floyd influence? Everyone is saying it, almost seems like it’s just something you say cause it sounds cool, rather than having any meaning…
you tools! why you wipe jonas’s posts! he’s the only clear headed doosh bag here!
shame on you hell boy for hosting a tool fansite and giving away ways to steal tool’s music. for shame!
Hey Hellboy. Your Email Sucks! You my friend are ALSO worthless! Talk about chatty directions!
Grav. WTF are you talking about?
lol
Do any of you believe that this album is a decoy?
I think it would be pretty sweet if it was because we would have like 10 more new songs to listen too.
[...] It’s been 1 day since it was reported on Fourtheye.net that the Tool album, 10,000 days, was leaked. But it’s been nearly 2 days since I got my hands on it. Virtual hands that is as I downloaded it the very second it was released from a private site! A lot of people have been posting around the internet that people were wrong to download it and that they are going to hold on until release date because they are the true devoted fans! I can actually only laugh at how wrong they are! Tool have always said to fans that they need to question authority and guess what I did by downloading the album? I questioned authority!!!! Surely anyone who takes in what Maynard says would have copped on to that?! By standing in an orderly queue at your local record store on release day I can gah-run-tee you that you won’t be questioning authority and that Tool will forever hate you. Artwork is also a hot issue and apparently I’m not listening to a Tool album unless I have the artwork in front of me. That’s bad news for anyone who wants to listen to the album on an MP3 player as they’ll have to label all the songs with an if they aren’t actually listening to Tool at all… unless they have the artwork with them! [...]
i know i probably don’t need to ask….but how’s the drumming?
It sucks……..
Just kidding, it’s ok, maybe not as great as some of Tool’s other work, but still ass kicking!
this is fucking awesome!!!!1
can anyone post th etrack listing so i can know if i have the full thing! or maybe somebody has extra tracks!! dunno but anyway this is fucking awesome danny is my drumgod polyrythm ostinato king!!!!
watch out for fakes and ill defenitely will buy the album!!! THINK FOR YOURSELF QUESTION AUTHORITY!! Also have tickets for the 14 june live show in london!
I tried to get tickets to one of their small-venue NYC shows, but the tix sold out two hours after they went on sale. For BOTH shows. Unbelievable, eh?
Oh my! The heated debate. TOOLS fans are a rabid lot (including me). I am not here to say they are the best band on the planet, it’s not football: it’s art. You like it or you don’t. And I won’t stand here claiming insight into the lyrics, but I know what they mean to me. Uninformed (or unimaginative) individuals that Think they Know instead of Know to Think…this seems to go against the very nature of these artists.
THINK FOR YOURSELF. QUESTION AUTHORITY. (Tim Leary)
As for the LEAK… The new TOOL recording leaked? How could this happen? IMPOSSIBLE!!! Not really… The most likely place that this was leaked from was a duplication facility. How? Oh come on! Humans are crafty! These are not high tech security centers, they are FACTORIES!!!
There are three releases floating around that i have come across… if you are a FAN and you are unimpressed, and the songs are under 5 minutes, guess what? you got the DEMO (or whatever it is- sure sounds like tool to me, but the songs are shorter, simpler and less developed), and that’ll be good news. How can you tell? If the track 10,000 days is 11:15, then you got the real deal. Here is what I’ve gathered so far about the LEAKS…
ONE: definitely not tool, from what i understand friends of theirs- A KNOWN DECOY(I skipped this one)this was the early one from FEB/March. Some have said it’s actually: Jack Maksuta- 4 Score And 20. I don’t know, don’t care, and haven’t heard it.
TWO: a disk calling itself 10’000 days, that certainly appears (to my silly ass) to be tool, but the songs are short and rather undeveloped- perhaps demos(a term I’m using rather loosely here)… You can simply compare the first track Vicarious from your download to the one on the radio, and when I compared one track: 10,000 days, the “demo” version was not the same song as the PROPER RELEASE, not in content or structure, texture or length (I didn’t bother to compare other tracks- I’ve moved on to nonstop listening of the proper release).
THREE: the PROPER RELEASE… Incredible, worth buying, and if you could download it and hear it a couple of weeks before everyone else, in the words of eric cartman: whats the big f*kin deal B*tch? this is the same debate that was going on when “with teeth” came out, and I downloaded that and then bought it too, as well as seeing the club tour (YES I got my tickets to TOOL in PHX!) and the stadium tour, along with a bunch of people I know.
As for ‘spoiling the surprise’- maybe you never snuck downstairs to see what was under the tree before you were ‘allowed’ to xmas morning… I DID, no harm done. Top it off that people all over the world in “the industry” will have heard it long before the 2cnd… and most of them are not fans, will write crap reviews that will effect sales, or throw it out in favor of the new JZ release (or wuteva). Some of these bastards will even resell that prerelease they legally received at a resale shop, and some fan will pay to much for something that shouldn’t be in there in the first place.
ME? I’ll tell everyone I know how GREAT it is (because I’ve heard it and it is- to me), and share it with folks who I know will go to the show and buy the disk! the REAL Underground Street Team… Savvy individuals who see this as a game and are not trying to profit from someone elses work. It’s true that there are some pirates out there probably trying to sell burned disks on a street corner or ebay and they are WRONG, and it’s likely that those buying and selling this to profit are gonna get burned by the decoys. GOOD! Perfect even!
I love it. I love the game, I loved the chase, I loved avoiding the first decoy, Downloading the demo(?) finding out the track lengths were to short, and searching again. I loved finding it, and I’m loving listening to it. I’ll buy it when it comes out to support the band because it’s good, NOT because I have to to hear it… and I’ll share it with close friends who I know won’t try to profit from “The GAME”.
If you know the rules, there is really nothing wrong with the game. None of this is going to change the world, but a song, might change the world for one individual… Support the artists you love!
And i spoke to soon. the “DEMO” is actually a band called Counter Fist, you can compare your tracks here:
http://www.counterfist.com/music.htm
LMAO, they sure sound like tool demos to me!
No offense, but you’re all so guillible… lol
*I’ll wait until May 2nd, what you’re all hearing is obviously not Tool. There’s no way it could have been downloaded by anyone but Tool, and if they were, they would oviously be decoys.
silly lil punks…
Another comment, I think you all listened to your music too loud, because I downloaded one song a night ago and it WAS NOT TOOL. this is why i decided to wait. Seriously, those who think anything but vicarious is tool you probably should not even listen to it anymore, as your hearing as gone to “THE POT” so to speak. Of course you could always justify it and Blame Hoffman!
guillible? dont be silly. Just WISHING it wasn’t out doesn’t change anything, or else we’d have world peace, and won’t make anyone OGT. I’ll be back here on the 2cnd doing the little happy dance with the packaged version of the same thing -hell, I’m already doing it! The song you downloaded was probably counter fist, the second ‘decoy’. every track from the second decoy is available to preview at the link above. rest assured friend that the disk I downloaded mid April is in fact TOOL, it’s incredible, I’ve got my tickets and will pay tribute on the 2cnd with a purchase. Anyone who looked hard enough after it went wide public on the web the 19th or 20th is listening to the real thing too, as well as a bunch of industry f*cks who couldnt give a sh!t and won’t enjoy it half as much as I am or you will (I’m guessing). To each his (or her) own… but I’ll make mine TOOL, and after 5 years not a minute to soon!
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. -Benjamin Franklin
CHEERS!
I was gonna wait, I really was. I knew I shouldn’t have, but a friend played it for me earlier in the week. After that I was hooked and HAD to download it. I don’t know what these crazies are talking about. “10,000 Days” has surpassed my expectations in every way (and for Tool my expectations are REALLY high). Those of you who have decided to wait, I’m proud of you all, and don’t let these idiots tell you that it’s not worth the wait because it IS. Let me tell you here absolutely and uncompromisingly that Tool will NOT disappoint you.
By the way, quit bashing “Vicarious”! I’de like to see any of you guys write a song like that! When I first heard “Vicarious” it floored me, absolutely confirmed for me that they were gonna deliver. Anyone who doesn’t like “The Pot” is absolutely nuts. That song makes my heart stop its so good. This album is entirely above reproach and to criticize it because you think its image and sound is “recycled” or “commercial” is to miss the point. These are artists presenting you their souls in musical form and doing a damn good job of it. You think Tool is about esoteric and mysterious lyrics? Think again. That’s never what they were about (listen to Undertow or Opiate for chrissake!)
Tool is so great because they take the time to make sure every release is amazing. I for one am gonna be like a kid in a candy store on May 2nd, and I will be every bit as excited to buy it as I was to first hear it. I can’t wait to hear it live. This album KICKS ASS. There is simply no getting around it. It is everything I wanted and more.
So anyway…my point…quit bashing the album you tools!
btw txbossman i love this comment:
“but what i don’t like is someone calling it shit after getting a FREE download. (you got what you paid for, SO SHUT UP)
like a homeless man bitching about the free food he just got.”
that wins the award for wittiest comment on this whole blog. good job putting these fools in their place.
