Well it was bound to happen at some point. Vicarious leaked and it was posted at Tool Navy about an hour ago. I wont post a link here for obvious reasons.

April 15, 2006 at 11:32 am

April 15, 2006 at 11:35 am

April 15, 2006 at 11:54 am
Best song of all fucking time.

April 15, 2006 at 1:10 pm

April 15, 2006 at 2:42 pm
Fucking brilliant.Danny’s taken it to the next level (again).I love it.2 weeks ’til Coachella, site of probably the best Tool show ever in 1999.Good times, good times.Peace.
April 15, 2006 at 3:54 pm
what a fantastic build up and ending
April 15, 2006 at 4:02 pm
Have toolnavy removed the links?
April 15, 2006 at 5:59 pm
It’s not the best song ever done by tool. However it still gets me really excited about the whole CD. And maynards vocals go over pretty well with me, even though it sounds like APC a bit. The bass/drums are amazing as usual, and I can’t wait to here the “more solos” Adam was talking about. It doesn’t seem heavier than old tool though, which I thought they were saying it would be.
April 15, 2006 at 6:06 pm
for all the poor ppl who cant find it. heres the torrent linnk — http://www.mininova.org/get/281769
no jokes this is the real thing 320kb as well

i love this song
April 15, 2006 at 9:26 pm
Vicarious didn’t hit me on the spot, but 6:35 did.
“lalala lie” is like “with the teetha” :/
April 15, 2006 at 9:44 pm
its quite a good song. there’s a few points where i think i could have changed it to improve it, but i’m not going to quarrel with anyone about it….
April 15, 2006 at 10:26 pm
wow the song is amazing, especially the guitar. one thing ’bout maynards voice..it’s pretty rough through the song, dunno if it’s his standart voice in the hole album (i hope it isn’t!!) but myb its because of the tv-topic in the song…know what i mean? drinking too much alc in front of the tv ‘s giving you this sort of voice 😀
“Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
Much better you than I”
April 15, 2006 at 11:17 pm
And if you really wanna get funky, you can view the video for Vicarious here:
April 15, 2006 at 11:26 pm
Disregard my previous post folks, it isn’t the actual vid. Sincere apologies one and all.
April 15, 2006 at 11:44 pm
Get it here:
April 16, 2006 at 12:07 am
I don’t like it. :9 too radio-rock-ish
April 16, 2006 at 2:08 am
Someone sais, if you didnt like the song you dont like tool… what were you expecting?
April 16, 2006 at 2:48 am
ANYONE WHO SAYS THIS SONG IS TOO RADIOISH IS STR8 CRAZY. ITS THE FURTHEST THING FROM IT AT OVER 7MINS OF EXOTIC VOCALS/RIFFS. TOOL ONCE AGAIN SHOWED EVERYONE HOW IT IS DONE!
April 16, 2006 at 3:25 am
If the single is this good, imagine how the rest of the album will sound.
April 16, 2006 at 3:41 am
Great song. Magnificient lyrics.
April 16, 2006 at 5:08 am
Pretty good; the 30-second clip was mostly unimpressive but the end of the song is really really amazing. I don’t much care for how the vocals are scaled down though; but whatever.
April 16, 2006 at 5:21 am
The song isnt all that great, sounds like it should be on thirteenth step. The chorus is always way too saturated, sounds like linkin park at one point.
April 16, 2006 at 5:36 am
VERY radio friendly, prolly an overture-like track…. i dig the subdued dialogue sample hidden in there too…
its like schsim w/o the stilted lyrics!
April 16, 2006 at 5:46 am
I really don’t think it has anything to do with 13th Step, and Schism too (that’s just Adam’s guitar, those are different notes… it’s simply his sound!).
April 16, 2006 at 6:05 am
Sounds a lot like a perfect circle.
April 16, 2006 at 6:16 am
That’s our matter if we compare to schism, is because we cant contemplate the new notes and mixtures. Is like loving or hating by the face we have in memory.
April 16, 2006 at 6:17 am
Original WAV File:
April 16, 2006 at 6:54 am
I love the song personally. All 4 of the guys sounded great. After listing to it a few times, it was like Godsmack meets disturbed
My gf which doesnt get off on tool the way we do said “its sounds like their last album ‘lateralus’ youde think after 5 years these guys could have grown a little.”
My relpy to her was, “get out of the car, bitch”
Just Kidding, lol, but I did say, “until you hear the whole thing a few hundred times, you really dont know the intricacy and fully appreciate the true greatness that is tool.
Then I called the local radio and told them I had new Tool, and it was mine (even though it wasnt) and no you cant have it. They told me that he had new ministry. Who cares dude I got some pure Tool. Rookie.
Im pleased though. Not too shabby FOR TAKING A 5 YEAR VACATION!
April 16, 2006 at 7:06 am
I personally enjoy the song. just helped eliminate those doubts I was having about them.
ps – I killed a man tonight, and I don’t know where to dump his body. pm me with suggestons.
April 16, 2006 at 7:33 am
bring the body to the police
April 16, 2006 at 8:42 am
These lyrics strike a nerve because they conjure things that are hidden in plain view. We are all secretly obsessed with watching tragedy, namely tragedy involving death, from a far removed perspective. If I was making a video for this track, it would be a 7 minute loop of a lion bringing down a gazelle like in one of those wildlife documentaries. But then where would the obligatory stop-motion toolness fit in? Anyway, this is at least as good as anything Tool has done IMO.
April 16, 2006 at 10:24 am
TOOLBAND.com seems to be down…
April 16, 2006 at 10:26 am
Radio friendly???? Pray tell me where you hear radio tracks like this so I can listen ‘cos the only stuff I ever hear on radio is pre-manufactured, American Idolish pap!!!
Radio friendly indeed!
April 16, 2006 at 10:32 am
Did someone say “new Ministry”?
April 16, 2006 at 11:24 am
Did anyone grab the WAV file from the link jokile posted?
Seems to have been taken down…
April 16, 2006 at 12:05 pm
Put it this way for those who say it sounds like APC:
If Vicarious was on an APC album, it would be the best track on the album by far…
I really really like this song!
It’s different but I still love it!
April 16, 2006 at 12:10 pm
…and TOOLBAND.com is back!
And… not really better than ever.
April 16, 2006 at 12:25 pm
To all the naysayers:
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
This track is brilliant. I’ll admit the intro is a bit ‘Schism-ish’ but just listen closely to the intricate timing and progressions throughout the rest of the song… it’s a seven minute bohemoth that never drags. Danny once again proves that he is the bast drummer in rock, bar none.
Glad to hear them being angry again. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the record.
April 16, 2006 at 12:32 pm
it’s ok… I hope the rest of the album is better
Except for the quitars and last 40 seconds, this does unfortunately sound like APC; a redundant melody/chorus, literal lyrics, layered bass, and vocals without passion

April 16, 2006 at 6:44 pm
It seems like some seconds are missing at the start. Something like a strong D (just like the start in Schims).Could I be wrong?
April 16, 2006 at 7:38 pm
If someone’s “missing some seconds at the start” then I’m sure the song is in its entirety here: http://terror.org.pl/~rjn/Tool-Vicarious-(CDS)-2006-DiSASTER
April 16, 2006 at 8:12 pm
maynard sings scales from apc. you dont have to belive me but its true. he never sang those scales in tool. thats why the downmixed his vocal in all thte songs probably because he has nothing left to say and the lyrics suck. now that apc is dead i think he is still living it VICARIOUSLY through tool. this is not progress for a band like tool… it does not take 5 years to be ready to release someting so predictable and redudant. i may be judging it a little harshly but it is TOOL we are talking about, and they HAVE to live up to a certain standard… and with this song, sadly they didnt. by tool standards it fucking sucks.
April 16, 2006 at 11:25 pm
i dunno, i really thought it was awesome. i don’t understand what everyone was expecting. the lyrics were a little eh… but i don’t know, i really thought it was great. it put my fears to rest.
April 17, 2006 at 1:12 am
Yeah, is a great song, I’m sure there wll be a great video, the guitar and drum progressions are complex.
April 17, 2006 at 1:54 am
How can anyone compare this song to Schism? The only thing it has in common is that it was the first single from the last album. If this intro sounds like anything, it is an overdriven version of the intro to “The Patient.” The Schism intro is mainly a bass driven hammer-on riff, with the guitar harmonizing. I’ll admit that these lyrics are not as subtle as some of the older stuff, but lyrics aren’t necessarily better just because they are more abstract and obfuscated. Maybe stop listening for how cool they sound, and try to understand what the lyrics are trying to say. Maybe they feel they need to be blunt here. The moral is ultimately this: quit lying to yourself and others; life is not fair, and you know you like watching others lose in the game of dog-eat-dog. Feigned compassion is bullshit. I think that is a healthy admission to make, and I also think that it is great that Tool is finally putting the philosophy behind their art out there in a way that even the uninitiated can appreciate.
April 17, 2006 at 3:30 am
i agree. once got a correct lyric sheet i really liked them. the guy above me said a lot of what i was gonna say so i’ll just say ‘i agree’.. the more i listen the more i like. this is a GREAT song guys!! get into it!!
April 17, 2006 at 3:31 am

April 17, 2006 at 10:41 am
Get it here (update):
April 17, 2006 at 11:10 am
hmmm, this is tough. Tool has been my favorite band since 93. This new track, I hate to say, is just OK.
First the good:
Adam rips here. The guitars sound great. Still better than 90% of anything you’ll hear on a rock station.
Now the bad:
Adam might be a bit too loud in the mix for my taste. Maynard doesn’t stand out lyrically, melodically, or otherwise. Danny has been more impressive. Justin seems to get a bit lost in the mix.
Maybe my expectations were too great. Maybe the rest of the album will be better. Maybe I won’t cry. Maybe Tool has run out of new ideas?
April 17, 2006 at 12:48 pm
The song its self seems to be a good solid radio single for those who listen to tool and can only recite the single schism to you, the song is great for that. But the only thing im really pissed about is the fact that the album is really called 10,000 days and the names of the songs sound like some incupuss song names. I mean come on Roseta stoned…Maynard what the hell where you thinking. But reguardless I think as a Fan I would be closed minded to think that Tool wont deliver yet another great mind altering album again.
April 17, 2006 at 3:02 pm
If anyone hasn’t heard Vivarious, the best and easiest source on the Internet is from The Fallins, accessible through:
April 17, 2006 at 3:26 pm
In response to LucyFur:
This month’s issue of Guitar World, They interviewed Adam, and they meant to put the vocals in the background on that song. Hopefully the rest of the songs are different, but I like the fact they let Adam stand out.
There is a very good quality link to the song in the previous post. Check it out Ryan.
April 17, 2006 at 9:04 pm
Wow, Definately one of Tool’s best songs. I really like it, although I can see why some of you think craply of it. Oh well, we can expect better from the rest of the album 🙂
April 18, 2006 at 12:16 am
I can’t believe ANYONE would be critical of this song! It embodies everything they have learned from side projects, especially Maynard’s lyrics & melodies, greatly advanced since APC. Adam & Danny have stepped up the technique & added new technology, Justin is playing a fretless & has also advanced his technique. The song is very radio-friendly, despite the fact that its meter is 5/8, and what’s wrong with TOOL being-radio friendly? The lyrical content of Vicarious NEEDS to appeal to a wider audience! Turn off the TV!!!
My brother & I have made it easy for anyone who hasn’t heard it, to get it:
We’re counting counter hits & statistics, so visit us! And please plugg us if you use us!
C’est la vie & Carpe Diem, TOOLfans!
April 18, 2006 at 1:29 am
anyone know a source for the origonal wav?
April 18, 2006 at 3:01 am
just because this song didn’t top anything on lateralus by 25 times doesn’t mean that it isn’t fantastic. i think everyone just got their hopes up too high. show me a band out there who has released anything better recently.
April 18, 2006 at 5:05 am
This song definately isn’t very “TOOL-ish” sounding. It just doesn’t have that feel like their previous albums. The vocals are pretty bad compared to most other TOOL tracks. I liked the pure, intense, yet restrained voice that Maynard sung prior to this release. Also, there isn’t enough “build” in this song. In songs like Schism, Lateralus, Aenima, and almost any other TOOL song, they begin relaxed and slowly work up to an intense climax and ending.
I just hope that the rest of the album can offer this.
The name “10,000 Days” is weak too, I liked it when they picked unique, one word titles. (Opiate, Undertow, Aenima, Lateralus, 10,000 Days?)
April 18, 2006 at 11:20 am
Is this band changing? Oh shit, abandon ship! You mean 5 years down the road they don’t think and sound exactly the same? What a bunch of losers. And we all know that the quality of an album or song can be completely surmised from its title. Clearly what we have here is a complete failure to deliver on the part of this band. It sounds exactly like every other epic, intelligently composed, rhythmically complex song with tastefully mixed vocals on the radio today. You know, like…hmmm. Nothing comes to mind.
April 18, 2006 at 1:01 pm
Does any one know where I can find the lyrics for Vicarious?!
April 18, 2006 at 1:31 pm
Sounds like 4 dudes playing their own unique form of rock music and trying to say something worthwhile in an attempt to open eyes and make a change in the world.
sounds like the sinner is turning into a saint.
perhaps it’s ok to follow some things?
like truth or the right path… Maynard is just coming into his own and spreading what he learns and feels. It’s ridiculous to expect him to still be this angsty, lost soul after so many years and changes. People…ask yourself something… did you stop growing at some point? Are you still in high school and life is a party? The definition of a disorder is when you stop growing psychologically…for one reason or another.. or none that anyone can find. (ie Schizophrenics and Epileptics)
the whole thing is that people are wising up and maturing in the same old ways…and there will ALWAYS be people who do not wish to wise up and accept…
vicarious: performed or suffered by one person as a substitute for another or to the benefit or advantage of another
serving instead of someone or something else
what comes to mind here?
and ultimately, the can write, play and say whatever because we all bought their records…
at least they aren’t supporting some harmful delusional view like some bands…
This album will be sweet…just like the others…but diversity is best. tool gets old and you move on… but …
LISTEN to what is being said. most of all.
April 18, 2006 at 1:59 pm
James, please tell me you are not suggesting that this song is in anyway endorsing Christianity. I may be totally off base, but some of your comments sound like hints in that direction. That suggestion would be laughable at best.
April 19, 2006 at 5:17 am
I had a feeling that any comment I made on the song would result in negative feedback. Anyway, its great that it
“Sounds like 4 dudes playing their own unique form of rock music and trying to say something worthwhile in an attempt to open eyes and make a change in the world.”
But the thing that made TOOL, TOOL was their unique STYLE that they said these “worthwhile” things.
Taking 4 random people and telling them to play rock music and sing lyrics that had meaning doesn’t make a legend like TOOL.
April 19, 2006 at 5:19 am
Can you imagine a song like Lateralus being sung in a 4 chord, 4 note rock-beat style?
It would be pretty queer.
April 19, 2006 at 5:21 am
I didnt mean the lyrics, I meant the song itself.
April 25, 2006 at 8:56 am
cant wait till the album is released.
for christ fukn sake its been about 5 years
any one know were i cant get the full album.
and not with some lame ass band trying to make me hear their pathetic fukn music while claiming to be Tool
