Coachella Setlist

Passenger of Toolarmy tells us that this was the setlist for the Coachella today:

01. Stinkfist
02. The Pot
03. Forty-six & 2
04. Jambi
05. Schism
06. Eon Blue Apocalypse
07. The Patient
08. Sober
09. Lateralus
10. Vicarious
11. Ænema

Hopefully we’ll get some more info about ths show soon enough. Not a bad setlist, though it looks to me like they’re saving something for their own shows.

Oh, and the Coachella Webcast didn’t include Tool, so don’t lose any sleep over it……

Edit: Modified Setlist (Including Eon Blue Apocalypse) came from TDN….

got the album today. i’m currently listening to “the pot”. i haven’t touched the rest of the album yet… i’ve gotta say… its pretty impressive. something old something new. its nice to see a little evolution. especially since that clown maynard is a fanatical advocate of “evolution”. theres a stupid smirk on my face. vicarious still sucks though.

more feedback soon.

oh man. everything is downhill after “the Pot”. honestly. “rosetta stoned” is supposedly the “third eye” of the album… very bad. the guitars over-riding everything. a white wall of dissonance crushing the ears. unlayered guitar work… boy very bad.

intension. right in two. pretty impressive. its nice to see the direction danny has taken here. there alot of “jambi” / south east asian syncopation about his work i like here. very nice… from the middle eastern sound of lateralus we are taken further into the “heart of darkness”… journeying further and further into the unknown (away from the west).

finished intension / right in two. very nice combination.

by the way is the alter ego of ? youre both always within the same vacinity at the exactly the same time.

oh man. there were moments of brilliance, but boy overall i’m pretty disappointed. Lateralus is a moster compared to this. danny has taken a new direction, maynard too has taken a different but falls short of being brilliant. most of all… i’m really dissapointed with good ole adam jonesy. especially since he’s the most god damn loudest! the riffs and melody lines here aren’t as memorable or stylistic as lateralus or aenima. i feel as though they could have written this material years back. *groans… considers giving it another spin… reluctance creeping in. electrons pulsing through my brain. should i… Read more »

hellboy. i couldnt have put it better myself. since you said it, i’m quite surprised, delighted, inspired and grateful. you see now? these close eyed tool fanatics are the ones that make me seethe. the ones that make me laugh… can you see the irony it it all? their god (maynard) preaches the doctrine of speculation, to question one’s beliefs, to believe in NOTHING, to have an open mind, to think for oneself… amidst all the discourses the religious fanatics overlook the fundamental core of tool’s spirituality. they go one refusing to question their faith… refusing to question the integrity… Read more »

Jonas, fair point sad thing is you take it to the oppoisite extreme. If someobody actually LIKES Vicarious/10,000 days, you assume they are a fan boy / MJK worshipper and rip them, the band and that persons personal taste, whether it be corrupt or genuine. If you want it both ways, start practicing it yourself. I love the CD, I am a fan but I’d hardly say im close minded – and if Rosetta Stoned doesnt grow on you, bad luck, its sensational – deserves a filmclip. Hardest song for me to accecept was Jambi, but im all over it… Read more »

vuduchild 🙂 don’t get me wrong. i get a kick out of ripping the band ONLY because by doing so it aggravates the fanatics / bent-overs. i think its wrong to see me as being the polarised version of the loyal fanatic. its utterly wrong infact. you have the two extremes. those WHO HATE the band for no particular reason at all. and those who wet their pants in love for them respectively. i fall somewhere in between. i refuse to hate the way they love. (although at times i do tend to sway… you have to admit there’s way… Read more »

Doesn’t sound like you would write a very good or justified one, it sounds like your approach listening to the album was all wrong in the first place.

Jonas in right. The album isnt that great. 2-3 great songs, and thats it. This doesnt mean the album sucks, it just means some of us dont think its that great. Whoever likes ROSETTA STONED MUST BE…STONED! Song sucks…(god damn, shit the bed…)I’ve tried over and over to get into it, but it just SUCKS!!

All of you who have just listened to the album a few times or less and are declaring it junk should be a little more patient. I was a little unsure of it at first, but now I’ve listened it it probably 30-40 times and am starting to love this album. It may grow on you.

Not sure if I am allowed to post here this but dvn made a post on Toolnavy mentioning how everyone should go to distortiononline.com. So, I went there and found a link to mp3’s

It has “The Pot,” “Vicarious,” and they just added “Sober.”

I’ll say this about ANYONE who can listen to a Tool CD one time and make a critical (yes/no) decision on it: YOU DO NOT GET TOOL!!

This music must be listened to many times before you can pass judgement on it. Spinning a Tool CD one time and saying it’s disappointing or not up to previous work is utter tripe and only meant to inflame.

For those who profess to be Tool fans; all I can say is LISTEN!!!

i know i’m sometimes guilty of being the ‘wet my pants with love’ kind of tool fan. i’ll admit that when i first heard the album my expectations probably helped me to enjoy it as much as i did.

at the same time though… it makes my ears happy. i don’t know how much more pure a reading i could hope for.

First time I heard Rosetta Stoned, I thought it was bad as well. For one thing, I was listening to the crappy quality leak. Once I listened to a higher quality version, as well as giving it time, I have found that it’s like the song “slows down” and isn’t as mean to the ears. It is actually a great song, after giving it time. It doesn’t overload my brain and hurt my ears anymore.

Okay, I have never posted on this board but, since I have listened to 10,000 days for about dozen spins I will agree with those who say that it isn’t great, what could possibly top Aenima in terms of its combination of brute force and composition and what could out-do Lateralus’ muted sentimentality and inward seeking philosophy, but, I disagree with fans who pan the record because it indeed has its merits. The straight up fact of the matter is, Tool might, at heart, and I hate to say this, be just like most other bands who simply cannot remain… Read more »

that is a super conservative setlist if I’ve ever seen one. Maybe more so than the first lateralus shows. Wait for real judgement tomorrow when they do the first headline.

They even played Disposition/Reflection at the first Lateralus shows. I’d be very surprised if Wings is not played Seattle.

Rosetta Stoned seems like the Ticks and Leeches of this album might only get played on very rare ocassions.

The only reason they didn’t play ticks and leeches very often was because it would have destroyed his voice, not so with Rosetta, they played Third Eye all the time when it was fresh and new, I’d excpect the same with Rosetta and Wings, at least by the time they come back to America, although I’m hoping I get to see at least one of them on the mini tour

All right, I just wanted to say my little piece here… and add to what everyone else has been enjoying in this lively debate. My thoughts on the new album are mixed… but i do have to say that I really do like it. The album is pure Tool. anyonee is who is a fan will know that. I hated Lateralus the first time I listned to it (I still think Aenima is there masterpiece). however, the more i listened to it, the more I enjoyed it. Tool always takes several listens before it really sinks in. The interludes can… Read more »
