Tool joing Mile High Club

According to James and Adambot, Tool will be joining the lineup for the Mile High Festival in Denver, Colorado.  Tool will play with the likes of Widespread Panic, Ben Harper & Relentless7, G. Love & Special Sauce, Ani DiFranco, India.Arie, the Black Keys and the 18th of July.  Tool would appear to be a unusual addition to the line-up, far heavier than anyone else on the show, unless Tool are planning to do some acoustic songs, and cover some of their classic rock favorites…

  1. Im so glad TOOL chose to tour this summer(still hoping it’s not an April fools joke) but Im really hoping it’s not going to be only a festival tour type thing. Getting older sucks but I dont want to have to wait around listening to shitty bands for hours and then see TOOL.

It is not an april fools joke. They are playing a few shows. The joke may be, just how many shows they are playing.

How are you so certain it isn’t an April Fools’ joke? I’m just wondering because it seems incredibly odd that they would play shows this summer. They haven’t written any new material yet, and if they have they certainly wouldn’t debut it live so that it could get leaked on the internet before they even go into the studio and start recording. Besides, if they had new material, wouldn’t they go into the studio before just going out on tour and playing the 10,000 Days setlist again? It doesn’t seem to make sense to me, and things like this Mile High Festival, where Tool is pretty out of place, make me think I’m right. I would love it if they were playing out this summer, but it doesn’t make much sense.

Tool never makes much sense. Just go with it.

They did the same for Undtertow and Aenima, where they played the new songs live to get the kinks out. Radiohead did it  before In Rainbows was released. No one cares about leaked live bootlegs, they sound like shit anyway. But based on the recent news, with Maynard seemingly being out of the loop, I dont see how many new tracks they could debut in such a short time. If they dont play new stuff, it sure as hell better not be the same setlists from last tour. I’m sure they’ll change it up.

Tool don’t seem to like people recording bootlegs of their shows and are very controlling about the way their music is presented, especially if it’s new music. I just don’t see it. At the moment it seems much more plausible that it’s an April Fools’ joke. Either way, whatever. If you’re right and they’re actually playing out I’d be happy to see them (granted they do something closer to the NYC area). If not, well, then I told you so. :)
