I read an interesting article on Blabbermouth today, in which Mikael Ã…kerfeldt from Opeth revealed that they almost became the support act for the summer Tool tour:

Other news, we’d been offered a support tour in the U.S. by TOOL but we didn’t get it this time, Hopefully in the future it might work out.

Given there have been a few complaints about Tweak Bird (not from me!), and I think there are quite a few Tool fans who dig Opeth, this would seem like potentially good news.

Thank God it’s not true. They’re as pathetic as Dream Theater or Anathema. Prog Death Metal is for 17 years old maximum… I don’t think it’s so true what Mikael says… Instead I would believe it’s just roadrunner who tried to get the things meet. And Roadrunner produces so silly music…

Wow…never thought I’d see the two of them come together. Seeing as how they come from almost entirely different places musically, then again that could be said about many of Tool’s opening acts. Might be interesting if it ever happens in the future…

Now if Porcupine Tree ever opens for them, consider the possibility that somewhere pigs are flying.

This does not come as a surprise. A Tool tour supported by Opeth has been in the works since post-Lateralus, it’s just never come to fruition. Certainly not the first time.

Opeth are horribly mediocre. Half arsed solos, uninspired musicianship (why do the keyboards always sound like a cat being squeezed-monotonous as f$#@), and weak vocals. ZZZZZZzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZ.

I’d prefer listenign to Scottish bagpipes as the opening act than Operff.

Dunno about that man. Meshuggah is pretty bad ass.

they should have a mono comp as an opening act and a longest skid comp as well

    that’s really weird !!

i know it’s a matter of taste after all , but i thought any Tool fan – who must be a real music great taster – must have respect for Opeth’s music

come on ppl !! didn’t anyone listen to the album ” Damnation ” … who can call that piece of art just a cat being squeezed-monotonous or have a weak vocalization !!

    am pretty stoned !!!

I don’t have great enough taste in music to really dig Opeth. I don’t think they’re bad, I just can’t get into them. I doubt I’d skip them if they happened to be playing a show I was at though.

Yes, Opeth is one of those band where you either hate them or love them..those who hate them just happen to have great taste in music.
