Word from a semi-official source tells me that in regards to the Tool/Toolarmy servers:
- The maintenance is planned, and it will be back “soon”
- Don’t expect any upgrades (yet)

Please be advised that any time now the ToolArmy site will be shut down while we deal with some maintenance issues. As of now, I’m not sure how long it will take to make the necessary adjustments. Thanks for your patience and continued support.

Kiddo called me and told me that Blair posted a *notice* in the news section about three minutes before TA went down that said TA would be going down shortly to fix the issues TA has been having, maintenance and whatnot, that they didn’t know how long it would be down or when it would be back up.
Probly has to do with the stuff distorted did and fix it so corinthian can get back on.
Just wanted to let y’all know so ya won’t be in the dark!

Wow, I had no idea about that. Glad to hear that at least there was some warning, but this was handled poorly by any measure… any self-respecting web master knows how to post a temporary default page in situations like this with a brief “be back soon” message…
In any case, it’s great to hear from you Bella, and thanks for that update. Hope you and Joe are having a killer time, and look forward to hearing all about it.

Ah, that John Howard is a man of many talents. I had no idea about his exploits in OZ. But I have to draw the line somewhere… no FB for me.
It hopefully will be back up soon. It appears to me that we had some kind of intruder on the website. And thats what obviously sparked the website to shut down. Don’t listen to me. Im just pondering…
Can’t say I’m shocked by the lack of notice (i.e., a few minutes) that was given about the down time the way that website’s run.
Whatever will I do without being able to post Simpson’s quotes.
I’m not shocked either. At least we have fourtheye to keep us posted. I’m sure this is not Blair’s fault, but how “planned” was this maintenance?

the people who run the TA site are very inconsiderate. it would not have taken much effort to tell us that it would be down for 3+ days. instead, i was afraid it was gone forever until i found comments on here. actually, there is more substantial TOOL info on here than there is on TA. but hopefully it will be back soon anyway. i have only been on TA for 5 months, but Blair is a fuckstick!

I agree – definitely not acceptable for a site we paid for. Then again the last 5 or so years of neglect are equally upsetting. in some ways sums up why I started Fourtheye in the first place.
I don’t know why anyone would even pay money to be a toolarmy member in the first place but that’s just me.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy with the overall value for money. I mean I have a signed photo, a shirt, stickers and other stuff, as well as some limited stuff (Signed Lateralus for example) which no doubt is worth a lot more now.
Oh well, Toolarmys loss is Fourtheye’s gain it would seem. Site traffic here has more than doubled since TA has gone down (if only the google ad clicks had gone up by the same amount).

It’s so cool to read messages from you all. The first couple of weeks were the worst…total withdrawal and confusion. I just had to remind myself to remain calm and to be patient. And…I really can’t tell you how humbling it’s been to hear how many people have been trying to help me out…I have a lot of “thank yous” to share if/when I get the chance.
But for now…you folks really are a great group…and that’s truly the best thing about TA.

I will speculate on this: in now way shape or form could they take down TA for good considering the new members that have recently joined. That would infringe on certain rights and laws.
Therefore, using that wedge as a point for optimism, I still say that we are looking at a long process here. And my reference to the monthly rate for UnitedLayer was only to imply that this process has to be costing something on the level of 250 a week if their monthly contracts are 1,000 bucks for service. Peanuts pretty much.
Anywho. The fact that we all knew to meet up here says something to the ongoing process that is TA.

Greetings Blair. TA being down this long can only mean that whatever’s going on is pretty serious. I’ve asked before and I’m asking again. Can you please make some kind of a statement about what’s going on? Give us some wild ass guess of an ETA for restoral of service? Anything besides that lame Linux default page… Come on – if the server TA is hosted on is up, how hard is it to put up a “Work In Progress” default at the very least? Since the Newsletter archive on Toolband is still accessible, that would seem the logical place to communicate… and since it’s already into November… isn’t it about time for the October Newsletter? There are a shitload of people going through TA withdrawals (check http://www.fourtheye.net if you haven’t already)… throw us a bone, please. Thanks for listening.

chat has never worked for me, I know there is something you have to do to make it work, but I was always content with the threads.

Some operating systems running some versions of Java won’t work with the chat. Sometimes it doesn’t link correctly too. I used to have problems when I used XP.
The following link is a good link and will bring you to chat from TA (you have to be logged in.) It takes a little while to load but if your Java works the link is good.
