from blabbemouth:
“Fix – The Ministy Movie”, Gigantic Pictures, and TuneCore are teaming up to provide a TuneCore artist the opportunity to have its song licensed to appear on the companion album to the documentary film “Fix” — a film about life on stage and backstage featuring the band MINISTRY. One artist chosen from TuneCore “Fix” entrants will have its song licensed to appear on the companion album with members of TOOL, SOUNDGARDEN, SKINNY PUPPY and others.
To participate, artists can go to http://www.fixtheministrymovie.com/tunecore , sign up for a free TuneCore account and then download the actual bass and sample stems from the MINISTRY song “Psalm 69″ for free. They then create their own original single using these stems, and have TuneCore distribute their song to iTunes. Each distributed song is eligible to be selected.
On January 2, 2011, one TuneCore artist will be editorially selected by Paul Barker (producer, co-writer, engineer, and bass player for MINISTRY) to have its song included on the companion album to the film.
The download package includes:
* Four bass stems: right and left dry tracks, and right and left distorted tracks, as .wav files.
* A stem of the vocal samples used in the song as a .wav file.
* An exclusive trailer for the forthcoming film.
* A hi-res printable PDF poster for the film.
* A note from Paul Barker.
All participants in this TuneCore contest who create and upload a track keep all of their rights and receive 100% of the revenue from the sale of their music on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, MOG and other digital music stores. The contest winner will have the opportunity to have their track included on the companion album to the film, and sold via a licensing arrangement with the filmmaker.
For more information on the contest, watch the video below featuring “Fix – The Ministry Movie” director Douglas Freel and clips from the film.
“I have always been a big MINISTRY fan,” stated TuneCore’s Jeff Price. “When I was given the chance to work with the team that made the documentary, I jumped.
“MINISTRY has always been groundbreaking — for both fans and musicians.
“I am really excited to be able to offer original stems from the MINISTRY song ‘Psalm 69′ for artists to use in their own recordings. I’m even more excited that Paul Barker, legendary producer, engineer and bass player, is going to listen to songs from TuneCore artists and pick one to include on an album with members of TOOL, KORN, SOUNDGARDEN and others.
“It’s TuneCore’s job to provide information, education and opportiunity to musicians. I am thrilled to be able to do this around a one-of-a-kind, unique promotion like this!”
“Take these sounds from my hand and create your own faith lift,” added Barker. “Any and all offerings will be accepted. Fanatically non-denominational, all sects, cults, bodies, branches, and orders are welcome. Glitch, hardcore, death, soul, dream, crusty- there are no differences in the eyes of this body. A great song is a great song. I, brothers and sisters, will make judgement upon your offspring.”
“Fix” puts MINISTRY’s outrage, genius and artistry on the table, warts and all, with an shockingly intimate and raw look at the demons artists fight — and create — while attempting to both, reach greatness, and sometimes simply survive..
MINISTRY took the genre of industrial rock and made it mainstream, and along the way their music and take no prisoners lifestyle influenced the leaders of today’s most important rock bands; many of whom are in the film: Trent Reznor of NINE INCH NAILS, Maynard Keenan of TOOL, Jonathan Davis of KORN, and Jello Biafra of the DEAD KENNEDYS, to name a few.
MINISTRY not only made some intense and provacitive music, they made it their own way — and as seen in “Fix”, paid the price for it. Featuring the highly volatile industrial metal showman Alien Jourgenson, “Fix – The Ministry Movie” is both an inspiration and a cautionary tale — of ego and excess on the dark side, but also of a heroic artistic integrity and on the other.
***Psalm 69 is both one of my favorite tracks, ever, on one of the greatest records ever made (and easily the best industrial metal album in history)… all only in my opinion, of course.
