Danny Carey and Brann Dailor Drum-off

Some footage from Artisan News Service/Youtube has been released which shows some of the drum off between Danny and Brann from Mastodon with backing band VOLTO! at the recent Guitar Centre Drum Off:

Anyone who has some better footage/lengthier of this event should let me know!  Thanks to Brian for the tip!

  1. Embedding disabled, but you can still watch it on YT directly.

Damn, that would have been a GREAT show to see in person. I know Gnjasmoker was talking about hitting it… did anybody here actually witness this live?

It was so great to hear that lady running her mouth the whole time.

    I agree.
I feel it added ambiance, character and really helped make the performance sound awesome and inspiring.

That reminds me of a live Tool bootleg I have from Boston during the 10K Days tour. These 4 clowns run their mouth 1/2 the show it seems. There’s some guy named Warf/Wolf Daddy mentioned and than someone says “Good times, good fucking times.”

If anyone knows Warf/Wolf Daddy and/or Mr. “Good times” kick ‘em in the junk 4 me.

The whole show was shot with “professional” cameras, I assume by Guitar Center. They have a YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/GuitarCenterTV that already has footage of the winner, so it might just be a matter of time before they post more of the show. It looks like they also have clips from years past.

  5. Nice! Thanks for the link Junior.

Kittaan – I got to go but due to waiting for my friend to get there to get our tickets we missed VOLTODON! play and no one there seemed to have any idea who went on at what time. While i was waiting for my friend i went by the ticket tent outside and had also asked the lady if she had any idea when VOLTODON! went on and she replied with “Who’s VOLTO!?” Sadly they went on first and had hoped they would’ve been thrown somewhere in the middle of the show.

I got to see Chad Smith (in afro wig), Jose Pasillas, Sully Erna and some of the Jason Bonham tribute. Missed the Tommy Lee part but from what i catched on YT i was ok with my FREE Heinekens in the “V.I.P.” area.

I have some pics and some videos but unfortunately i don’t have any of the VOLTODON! set. Next time i will just get my ticket beforehand but with money being so tight these days i was greatful to have my friend get me in.

I’ll be posting them up on FB in a little bit.

For you Kittaan i’ll post them on MySpace… Lol!

Or you could just post them here….

  7. Will do HB. I’ll post after work. Not that many but i will post a link to the videos after i upload them also.

  8. @ Gnjasmkr – Thanks Jose! Damn, that sucks you missed the best part… but I’m sure you witnessed some awesome skin banging anyway… 8`)

@ Das – hell yes… KC is the shit. Have you checked out Bruford’s solo work? His band with Holdsworth, Berlin and Stewart is astoundingly good (late 70′s & early 80′s I believe).

  9. Heh. Yep, that’s Pat. Forgot about that.

I just saw him last Friday, coincidentally with Allan Holdsworth, Tony Levin and Terry Bozzio. I was hoping it would be an amazing show with all that talent on the stage… but the wank-quotient was too high… they kinda sucked. Nothing but improv, and except for a few amazing solos, it was pretty underwhelming, I must say. Bozzio’s kit took up 70-80% of the stage! Mastelotto was mostly playing electronic and triggering samples. I wish they had prepared more for the gig, because it could have been spectacular.
