Important Tool LA News

I thought this was worth a new post in case you skimmed that last one.  Tool LA Dates are confirmed on Ticketmaster and go on sale tomorrow (4th June) at 10AM.  Don’t miss out!

And now some editorial content if I may indulge you:

Personally, while this doesn’t effect me directly (aside from having to read shit load of negative comments on my website), I wake up today feeling pretty disappointed about how one of my favorite bands has handled this situation.  It’s hard to point fingers at anyone in particular, we don’t know who did and didn’t have information on this show – I’m the kind of person who likes to give people the benefit of the doubt, so if it wasn’t mentioned on Toolband, then I’m guessing that Blair legitimately didn’t have the heads up.

To give fans virtually no notice of the event through official channels is really disappointing and I understand why many readers here are pissed.  I know if I missed out on tickets to a show locally because I didn’t hear about the gig I’d be outraged as well.

I don’t know anything about the US ticket scene, except for the fact that Ticketmaster seem to dominate.  I do know that certain bands, including some that many consider to be Tool’s peers (NIN for example) have shown more initiative towards ticket sales and have gone to long lengths to help fans get to gigs.  That Tool aren’t going down this road as well is frustrating to me.  They may want to bury their heads and ignore certain aspects of the industry, but without bands like Tool and NIN leading the way in redefining the music industry, it will just end up going nowhere.  For a band with some strong views about politics and such, and who seem to encourage themes of discovery, pushing boundaries and change, it’s disappointing that when they are big enough to influence and change the music industry, they at least publically seem unwilling to do so.

I sincerely hope that last nights/this mornings fiasco was a one off and that it never happens again.

  1. Ugh, I hope I can get the score on tickets when they are listed for real. Last summer after the concerts got over with i bought a bunch of posters. I think i will sell one or two or four of them. some signed some not. I’ll be using the money to get out to LA for at least a show or two or three. lol

  2. I’d go to see Tool if they had an ounce of the energy they did during the Undertow and Aeniam days. This was when the show was all about the concert and not the overblown sceen productions. Plus Maynard actually was int he forefront on stage back then. What a shame!

While I love 10,000 days, I can’t stand Lateralus. I know that’s a controversial opinion. but Lateralus was just so mathematically calculated. Impressively so, for sure. But to my perception, it lacked a burning warmth of soul that undertow and ænima- and, refreshingly, 10,000 days- had.

Ballsy!! But hey…. everyone has an opinion. I just think your opinion is not that great and lacks sarcasm. Undertow was kick ass tho’!
    PEACE

  4. st1nkf1st you’ll be surprised but many Tool fans that go way back feel the same way I do. Even Though they have sold millions of records and can still fill a stadium to full capactiy their releveance has diminished and its been over a decade since hey out out anything worthy of attention. Of course its all relative but you can’t deny that they’re lazy as fuck!

No sarcasm needed in my posts, just telling it how it is.

  5. I don’t get this?? Nothing was listed on ticketmaster when I had been checking. Same for Nokia. And nothing is posted now? I don’t get it? Starting to think that they just give all the tickets right to the scalpers and none really for anyone else. This doesn’t make sense to me. WTF. I am sooo fed up this this type of stuff. It is always something with this band.

  6. I guess I’m just a big dummy because I can not find any confirmation for L.A. shows on Ticketmaster, Tool Army, Tool Band, the Nokia Center site, Craigslist……

Either yoos toool fans is funny or I is a dummy….

  7. My original point yesterday was the craziness going on with the announcement and on sale date for the LA shows being less than 24 hours apart and subsequent lack of info for the show after the tickets went on sale due to ticketbastard pulling the dates from the website was that this was not the band’s doing, but most likely the promoter or a screw up on ticketbatard’s part. This quickly turned into the band does not care about their fans and let’s compare this to how other bands treats their fans. And I must be a dummy b/c I enjoy the “annual cash raping”. In the history of TooL, there has been, to my knowledge, only one presale event and that was for the 10k days tour. TooL is going to do what they want to do and we as fans are not going to change that with all of our bitching and moaning. I get just as pissed about the state of the union when it comes to ticketbastard and their ticketbroker site, Stubhub. The scalpers are being supported by these assholes, and yes, it does piss me off, but that does not mean I will stop getting my tix b/c scalpers got theirs first. The tickets you see on the ticketbroker sites and ebay that show up before the onsale date are usually the scalpers who, of course, do not have the tickets yet but assume they will. I have never paid more for a TooL ticket than face value and never will. When I shop for tickets, I know the value of what I’m shopping for and know how to play their game. I will continue to support TooL any way I can b/c I get enjoyment out of the same lame set list they played last year. The day I quit getting my moneys worth is the day I will stop. I know what I’m getting when I buy tickets. Yes, I wish they would change the set list up a bit from time to time, but on the other hand…..none of us expected the opportunity to see them two years in a row in between albums. I’m sure our overseas friends wish they had that opportunity.

  8. man there are some whiners in the world. another toke and you feel better? have you ever wondered if you had a clear mind some of the time, you may be able to put things in perspective? and the stage energy thing. these guys are approaching 50. do you really expect them to stomp around like the undertow days? and yes, it is a pain to get some tickets, for some shows these days. it is what it is. if you cant afford $150 for one of your favorite bands, for one night, find a better job!

and lastly….Nine inch nails sucks nuts!!!!!!…always has

Well said!! I fuckin’ ate whiney lil’pikeys!! Don’t like the setlist stay home and listen to a mixed cd with some live NHL crowd noise in the back, smoke a doob and enjoy the show in the privacy of your own home!!

  11. Blair Speaks:
    Just posted on TB/TA…..
I know that many people in Southern Cali are anxiously waiting for an announcement about an on-sale date. Unfortunately, I’ve yet to receive any info. As soon as I do, it will be posted (though you might want to keep checking with TM and other sources). Needless to say, I was baffled when I saw a listing in a TicketAlert sent to me by TM on June 4th. I quickly contacted the proper people so that they could look into this matter, and since then certain info has been removed. I suppose we could chalk it up as an interesting example of tangential tantrum – what Kenneth Grant describes as “an alarming side-effect of a ritual” – in this case, a magical operation by certain Karcists working with the recently published grimoire, but it’s far more likely that other factors were involved.
    -BMB

Good to know that it was just a fuck-up.
Since everybody’s having their say on this, here’s MY rant: People, give Blair and the other folks who assist TººL in doing what they do the benefit of the doubt. Consider the fact that it’s very unlikely they would go out of their way to fuck with you to get their jollies. Equally unlikely that they “just don’t care”… it is highly likely that when situations like this arise, it is due to circumstances outside of their control. But hey, some people just like to bitch… so have at it.

He didn’t mention anything about the fact that tickets have already been sold and whether or not they’re still valid…etc…what a joke

It is ticketbastard’s screw up so therefore it is their responsibility to handle the aftermath.

Here is an article that is quite interesting. Thanks to Jose for posting this on fb.

  16. Is it really any wonder why we are for the most part the last people/FANS to find out what is going on with this band?? I am pretty stoked to see’m in 4 weeks!! I do not have the energy to even begin a rant with most of the shitheads about……… I have a life. Some people die for water and have their limbs broken so their Mothers can beg for change on a street in a sweaty stressed out city. We wipe our asses with paper and drink water that runs into our houses…… ARGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!! Life is good……. I mean really!!

From what I understand the shows are definitely for real, it’s just a matter of the timing of the ticket sales. Still no word on when they will actually go on sale, and what will happen to those who did manage to get tickets.

I would suggest that if they were to play 3 nights in a row, there would probably be some minor setlist changes, unless they’re planning to do identical sets for the sake of a recording. Don’t expect wildy varied lists though, probably no more than one or two different songs a night.

I don’t know about that. I expected a bit of a set list change for the last two nights in Vegas back in ’07 and got the same show back to back.

True, True, but it might have had something to do with the continent and the fact they don’t visit there very often. It’s just a thought.

What happened to, “Ew, the Nokia Theater. Thanks, TOOL, but I will wait patiently for better live venues after your new album comes out.” ?

Besides, the word going around seems to indicate that these tickets are going to be voided and all charges refunded in order to put them all back up for sale properly.

I’ve never been to the Nokia, but I’ve heard mixed reviews. What’s your take, how’s the sound?

  31. I have a mental condition, nxrm, how dare you make fun of me.

Anyways, what I meant before was that I would gladly pay the steep ticket price if not for TOOL playing at the Nokia Theater in L.A., because that venue is terrible, in my opinion, and I will wait until TOOL tours at more intimate venues with better seating and acoustics.

I received my pit ticket from a close friend of my father’s for next to nothing, but it seems that all TOOL tickets sold thus far for the Nokia Theater in L.A. are void and will be refunded.

I’ve never been to the Nokia, but I’ve heard mixed reviews. What’s your take, how’s the sound?

The show I saw there in December 2007 was incredible. I had seats in the Orchestra 300 section, row JJ…almost dead center. I thought the sound was spectacular. I took three friends who’d never been to a Tool show, and they were truly amazed.
That’s actually the only show I’ve been to at the Nokia Theatre…so I don’t really know about the sound in other sections, but I always look for seats or standing room directly in front of the stage if possible. I’d avoid the orchestra 100 or 500 sections, just because they seem so far off to each of the sides, and I’d imagine the sound would get a bit muddled.
My only real complaint of the night was the sloping concrete floor. The people in the rows behind us must have just been pouring their beers out one after another, because that floor was slick! Made it difficult to rock out and keep standing without slipping every now and then…my feet totally came out from under me a couple times and I’d fall back into my seat or into the row in front of me. That wasn’t fun.
Ideally I’d love to get seats right back in Orchestra 300 somewhere. : )

  34. to kdub420: ’twas a joke, Francis

to seanhalas: I didn’t mention stage energy so I guess that part was directed at someone else. As for the other shit, I never said I couldn’t afford $150. My toking is like my meds, as I’ve never been on any pills and never will be no matter how much pain I’m in. Toking is what clears my mind. Do you drink coffee everyday, soda, energy drinks…? I’d expect more from a former addict too but, I really don’t know you anyway…
