Poster from Tool’s New Orleans Gig

Badkittygothgirl sent me a photo of the Tool tour poster she picked up at the gig.  It’s signed by all four members, and I presume for sale at the merchandise stall:

037

She also sent me a copy of the set list, which I won’t post here.  You can check it out in the New Orleans thread in the forum.  For those who are going to on this tour and don’t want to see the set list – rest assured you won’t be disappointed!

Also, the opening act was Wovenhand, despite what Blair said about it possibly being incorrect.

Wow, very nice!!!! Were they available as soon as the venue opned? And also did they have unsigned posters as well?

  2. newb

Signed posters are 100, unsigned are 25. This is a great deal considering this is original artwork created by silkscreen printing. Clearly, Adam and the guys are purposefully making them affordable, especially the $25 versions.

Just curious: do the posters have an embossed stamp?

I bought a few last night, and none of them are embossed.  They are hand numbered, but not embossed.

Interesting. All of the posters were embossed during the entire 2009 Summer tour except for the signed Lollapalooza posters (the unsigned Lolla posters had the embossed stamp).
I have wondered whether or not the embossing had some authenticating purpose (preventing forged signatures, reprints, etc.) The embossing seems to be random.

I am indeed.  I have 2 spares.  I could probably be convinced to part with them.

I have one from New Orleans in ’07 and that one wasnt embossed either.  But my dallas and San Antonio from last year..embossed.  The paper from last night’s show actually seems a bit thicker.  I wonder if the embossing would have torn the stock?

  7. newb

How easy was it to get a signed one?  I know only about 300 are signed at each show, right?

Yeah. At the time (Summer 09′) it seemed like they started using a stamp to emboss all the limited edition posters. In fact, they embossed all of them except the signed Lolla posters. Probably just an oversight…
They may have just given up on that part of the process, deeming it unnecessary.

Each merch booth had signed and unsigned.  If you were in early, I think you could get either with no problem.  There is a total of 250 posters period.  Not sure how many of the 250 were signed.

I was thinking of starting a new thread for people to post pics of their show posters. My lolla poster was embossed last year, however all of my posters from the shows in 07 are not but they are hand numbered. I have 9 of the print mafia posters from different shows.

    Was your Lolla poster signed?

  12. Poster Hoarder

no i bought 2 of the posters from lolla I looked all damn day at the merch booth for signed posters none available!!! They didnt even have the regular posters at the venue until about 5 I believe. I think that the signed posters arrived at almost show time which sucks, but at the same time I haven’t seen a signed lolla poster!

I have a signed Lolla poster. I think I came across this one only because they came in late, which might also be related to the reason why none of the signed Lolla posters were stamped.

  14. newb

I stand corrected guys.  I just took a closer look and took a few pictures.  The embossing is higher on the art and hidden by the print.

  15. Poster Hoarder

Thats it maybe they are embossing all of the posters that Adam created then, which make sense!

  16. newb

Lachrymologist, If you are ever inclined to buy a signed Lolla poster from someone, be sure that it doesn’t have a stamp. I saw several in Chicago, and none of the signed posters were stamped.

On a more related note, the poster for this NOLA show is one of my favorites. I love the image and the color scheme.

  17. Poster Hoarder

Thanks for the insight. I already have 2 lolla posters it doesn’t really bother me that they aren’t signed. I have a couple of signatures from the guys. I probably wouldn’t purchase a signed poster unless it was at the venue! I am interested in one of those print mafia posters that Adam drew on in 07 if I could guarantee its authenticity.

  18. newb

I didnt see that anyone said it, but the booth i went to had some event posters that were signed that adam had doodled on with a sharpie, but they were $350, not sure how many there were, but they were cool. maybe something for folks going to up upcoming to shows to look for

  19. newb

If you have to get them early, was it a pain in the ass to carry around during the concert? I definitely want one but I’d have to carry it on the floor the whole time.

They come in cardboard tubes, to its not too bad. Though, i didn’t like carrying mine around, so I took mine back to my nearby hotel before the show.

More precisely, my poster came with a triangular shaped cardboard container.

besides the posters can anyone who was there explain what types of merch was available?    cost?  etc….

I would definitely take one of your hands and give it a good home. I’d take it for walks, play with it and teach it to hang. If you still have one please let me know.

    Thanks

  24. newb

I NEED ONE RIGHT NOW!!!! The guy in front of me bought the last one!!! I WILL PAY OR WILL TRADE! AND TRUST ME I PROMISE MY TRADE WILL SEND YOU TO OTHER WORLDS!

a few new tees different from last year, couple of em are bas azz….. $40-45, they had some signed event posters that adam did some extra artwork with, he used a silver sharpie, there were very few of those-$350.00.

  26. newb

    smithersSOCAL
They had some T-shirts I had not seen before, all were $40 I believe.  They also had a glossy roll-up poster, didn’t get a price as I was not interested in it.  I saw CDs and Vinyl for Wovenhand.  I think that was about it.

  27. newb

think I would have time to snag a poster and still be able to make it to within 3 rows of the stage on the GA floor? or even better, were they still be available after the show?

If anyone is interested, I went ahead and listed mine on ebay.  I had a handful of requests, so I felt it was the most fair way to make them available.  They’re both starting at 99 cents.   http://cgi.ebay.com/Tool-Band-Poster-New-Orleans-6-19-2010-168-250-/250654403868 http://cgi.ebay.com/Tool-Band-Poster-New-Orleans-6-19-2010-167-250-/250654399002[/quote]

LOL @ the shirts from tonights gig!! Hilarious I don’t understand people being negative about this shirt, its so funny. Maynard looks like Johny Depp from some movie he was in that I forget the title to at the moment.

That shirt is from last years tour. They did not have that one available at the merch booth. I don’t like the shirt, personally, b/c i like it that our boys don’t have their faces plastered all over the place!

I purchased one with Adam’s extra doodling for $450 at the Houston show. I was so psyched to get my hands on it that I didn’t realize Justin’s signature was missing. Unfortunately, I noticed the next morning. The person at the merch booth said that it was only one of six in the building (?) but who knows. I’m obviously very disappointed that only 3/4 of the band signed my poster. It must have just been an oversight. But the poster is still amazing. Here’s a link to a pic of my poster: http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/rr212/MrsAutumnSmith/Tool/IMG_3374.jpg

Thank you Mrs. Smith for all the info., really sorry about not getting Justin’s signature (still looks great).
