July Tool Newsletter

Blair has released the July 2010 Newsletter on Toolband, and it’s a short one.  It briefly discusses the tour, their plans to continue writing and a four seeded peanut:

I reached into a bag of peanuts, grabbed a handful, and upon cracking open the FIRST ONE, was amazed to see that it contained four perfectly formed peanuts. Immediately it hit me that this was a most auspicious sign – a harbinger of good things to come, as well as a signal from above that the unity experienced by the band members during the tour would carry over once it was finished, Indeed, I was confident that they would get right back to writing new material.

He also mentioned that they will not tour again for at least six months, so there should be plenty of time to do what they gotta do.

And now for some speculation on my part – the mention of six months before the tour may be significant.  In about six months time the Australian summer music festival season will be in full swing, and perhaps we may see Tool featuring on that?  The Soundwave festival lineup gets announced this week, and while I think a festival tour from Tool is reasonably unlikely, stranger things have happened (such as the recent tour), and recent hints at needing a passport in previous newsletters could be a clue…

I actually somewhat rather it not be true.  We got a festival tour last time around, and it’s just not the same, so I’d rather get a proper tour than another festival one.

Regardless, I do actually think an Aussie tour anytime before the album is out (and it won’t be out within 6 months) is pretty unlikely.

Yeah it does seem likely that they would Tour here first after the release of their album… also I hope they don’t do a festival… it’s just not the way Tool is sposed to be seen I reckon.

whoa, four peanuts. whats the usual? two? you could feed a family of elephants w/ that thing!

I knew a guy when i was in the Marines that had three nuts.  We called him Titleist, like the golf balls, ’cause they come three to a pack.

  5. newb

I used to work with a guy who only had one nut. The other one had swollen up to the size of a soft ball one day, and the doctors thought it might be cancerous so they removed it. After that we started calling him wingnut: Talk about adding insult to injury. If you’re still out there dude…sorry.

I used to know a kid who had a pair of balls that grew off and hang from his chin. I think his last name was Stotch or something, but I could be wrong, I don’t remember him that well.

Holy cats, I have watched footage from Nokia….dudes were tight and astoundingly awesome. Sorry if this is late in the game, I had principles, to not watch any tour stuff. Ps, peanuts and nuts yahoo!

Looks extremely likely that Iron Maiden will be the headline act for Soundwave this year, and I doubt there’s room on the lineup for both them an Tool – so that’s kinda good news.

I think you are talking about Peter Griffin.

I heard there was Iron Maiden roumurs floating about with Australia in the subject. It sounds awesome and that explains why there are so many shit (excuse me – less prominent) announced so far.
I’d be surprised if they could fit any of the bands that i was hoping for (ie: High on Fire, Deftones, Soundgarden) on the bill with that sort of budget.

This Blair guy’s posts are rather annoying, no?

Does he really think he is clever and amusing?

HAS he ever been clever and amusing? Maybe I just don’t have enough experience w/his updates?

He is pretty clever, and slightly amusing imo…

Hmmm, guess I’m just not getting it. Maybe I should read more of the older ones and see if it hits me.

And both fit in ONE hand… sorry, I just assumed with your rep that those bad boys would be huge (if a bit shriveled)…

What’s up Elpie, been a long time. Did you catch any shows this last run? Sorry if I missed it earlier, I was out of town for a few weeks. I got to see them twice and loved it.

Sincerely, I don’t recommend it.  Blair is actually very clever. So clever that he is in a league of his own, only Blair. And what do you call a minority of one? Insane.

Lately, however, his monthly newsletters have been a million times more informative than past ones. That is not an exaggerated figure.

I hope I saved you from a mindfuck that ends up having no payoff.

Would it even be worth seeing Tool live in 6 months if they’re still playing the same old goop?

    Yes

I’m thinking the band believes that they will be able to finish the album in six months.

i am of the opinion, and supremely confident that TOOL will be recording their best album to date. historically, bands tend to peter out in their later years, IF they even stay together. TOOL, on the other hand, seems to be building momentum. this last tour seemed to be on a whole new level. they have opened up so many creative doors with Lateralus, Aenima, and 10000D, that at some point it is all going to come together as one. what better time than now!!

Agreed 100% This album will be the BEST EVER!!! And I don’t care when it comes out to be honest with you as long as they tour somewhere in the states next year!

  22. SmoothOperator

Basically you know the album is going to be approx 6 months away when Blair first starts posting pics of them in the recording studio. Hopefully we will see some next month or the month after

Elp!, It’s been a while! Posted any pictures of people with their heads up their butts lately?

Let’s hope so. Frankly, I could care less about APC, especially when it might get in the way of anything TººL related. But as we all know, Maynard will do what he does… we’ll just deal with it as usual.

Looks like Maynard finally got the @aperfectcircle twitter page back from the squatter, too.

I thought I had written this comment for a second!  I went to Red Rocks my 24th show in the last decade and I agree it was on a whole new level.  I have been telling people also that I am extremely confident this album should be a pinnacle obviously perhaps the last as well.  Seems like they are doing more and more build ups to me I predict build ups within build ups until your head explodes.  Hoping for Spring i’m really starting to get anxious already.
