Alex Grey ticket details

Details have been released for the Alex & Allyson Grey show in Melbourne next year.  Tickets are $70 per person for the event:

For the first time in history, visionary artists Alex and Allyson Grey will step foot upon Australian soil to present their radiant portfolio of visionary paintings, drawings, and multimedia to art, science and music lovers across the nation. The main event in Melbourne will take place at the iconic Astor Theatre in St. Kilda on Saturday January 29, featuring an artistic showcase and interactive discussion with both Alex and Allyson followed by a live painting performance. Displaying their finely detailed images of subconscious symbolism, this full day with the Greys will allow each participant to truly delve into the artistic realm of Alex and Allyson Grey and their transformative works of art.

This spectacular event is bound to inspire, encourage, and transform.

$70 to Spiral Out doesn’t sound too bad and you never know who you might bump into…

Dali was 23 bucks, and that was a huge exhibit. Im wondering how much there actually will be to see, its one day at the Astor and then hes off the Rainbow Serpent Festival for 3 days, I cant imagine the place filled with pieces.

No chapel of sacred mirrors, but perhaps a certain Mr Jones?

Its the bloody economy I tells ya, I just wanna say hi and get my Lateralus signed.

For those who’ve not seen his work in person, $70 does seem fair. We visited COSM in NYC during the 10K mini and was lucky to see an extensive amount of his work up close and personal. Alex was quite gracious and willing to make time for all and anyone who had a query, a story, an inspiring moment… signing just about anything you were willing to hand him, shaking hands. It was a fairly small gallery, but we were still able to keep ourselves content and occupied for several hours. Personally, I think I’ll have to pass considering my… Read more »

Just bought my ticket. Cannot wait. Tool, Primus, Melvins & Alex Grey in the span of a month. To quote Comic Book Guy: “Best festival season ever”

I’d say Adam is almost a certain guest. I envy the people going to see those great works.

$70 seems kind of steep to me, but I’ve been “anti-Grey” ever since they ran those commercials on the screens before the summer 2009 tour shows.  You remember the ones, asking for money to build a “Tool Shrine.”

wonder if he has done any car crash inspired work…? That was a huge impact if you saw the pics.

70AUS, yeah pretty expensive, just depends on how much you like pretty pictures I guess. I know I would go to the gallery in the states if I was in town though for sure!

70 bucks…? I can go to the Met for a $20 donation and see real, world renowned artist works.  Those which are actually historically significant and worth the time and effort to see.  Plus you can spend days in the Met they have so many works on display.   Or I can spend $70, see a couple paintings, get something signed (the only real point of spending $70), and talk to an old whacked out acid-head hippie. Hmmm, seems like an easy decision to me. Is he really legendary, like his PR machine wants me to think?  I don’t see… Read more »

^that’s certainly true. He presented a painting to Sasha shulgin last april in his honor at a psychedelic science conference. It was an amazing painting. He received a huge ovation that night and the night before when he gave a keynote speech. He mentioned tool a few times too. Anyway, Alex and Allyson inspire peace and tranquility with their paintings and their words. Like hellboy said, $70 isn’t shit for some. For others it’s a years salary. There’s no need to express disdain for the price tag. I just wonder what he may have to do with the new tool… Read more »

$70 isnt bad.
He has to lug all his gear over which Im guessing wouldnt be cheap. If I had the day off work Id go.
Hell of a lot cheaper (and more likely) than me ever getting to see his stuff in the States.

The Rembrandt exhibition was half the price…Rembrandt was a MASTER and Grey wishes he was in the same class. This is a mockery.. Alex Grey is a pretentious prick whose artwork isn’t even special. Are we even allowed to speak ill of “the man behind the breathtaking imagery of the rock band tool” while at same time give props to the defrocked “Happy Pencil” guy in a tool forum?

Alex is really a nice guy. For that $70 you will most likely get to meet him, have him give you a tour of his works and explain in great detail about what his message, motivation, and meaning were for each piece. He will most likely do a live painting as well. (his live painting sessions usually involve a band that performs while he paints and can last for hours.) All of his works do have a meaning and story behind each one. Unlike a lot of artist that just create something that is nice to the eye. his works reflect… Read more »

That’s right, Grey has a Jesus complex. He thinks he’s the second coming. The biggest mistake Tool ever did was strain their relationship with Cam De Leon. take a look at his website ‘happy pencil’..he does sculpting, prints, paintings that have a contemporary feel and on the other hand deal with the darker side of humanity.

With Alex Grey its all chakra yes and chakra eyes. I just hope Tool don’t use his artwork for the next album.

Let’s face it if it wasn’t for Tool he’d be a nobody. Its only the Tool nerds with no life that worship him.

admin – 5 minutes ago  »  Let’s face it if it wasn’t for Tool he’d be a nobody. Its only the Tool nerds with no life that worship him. Let’s face it doors, you actually are a Tool nerd with no life. Grey was reasonably prominent before Tool came around.  He’d done work for Nirvana and the Beastie Boys prior to the Tool artwork.  I’m not convinced the whole Tool thing has made a large difference to his popularity outside of the Tool fanbase. I’d like to see Tool head a different direction with future artwork though.  I don’t mind… Read more »

hi all, this is my first post here after lurking for a few weeks and geting all the news on the tool tix, so thanks to you all for that! i know $70 is expensive but this is going to be so much more than just seeing his paintings in a gallery! both alex grey & allyson grey (who is an amazing visionary artist in her own right) will be there, the event goes from 3pm-midnight starting with a talk about visionary art and expanded consciousness moving into an open discussion. after that there are over 6 different sound artists,… Read more »

I knew his history with Nirvana and the Beastie Boys. Back then he was somewwat tolerable now all of his artwork is bland, generic and predictable. Tool would be completely stupid to do a third cover with Grey. Hell..they had David Bottrill for 2 albums I think its time to move on.

Absolutely. It’s all very subjective.
