Tool Tour Update

Not long now until Tool hit the road for the first time in 2011 (and hopefully the last time before recording!).  As we all know, Tool are playing the Big Day Out tour here in Australia in New Zealand, which also includes a couple of sideshows in Melbourne and Brisbane.  As an added bonus Tool will be playing a show in Hawaii the week before this tour.  Support band for the tour are Kiwi post-rockers Jakob, who play with Tool on the Aussie sideshow dates.  Not sure if these guys join them in Hawaii as well…

For those still considering checking out the band, tickets are still available for a range of these gigs.

The Hawaii show at the Neal S Blaisdell Arena still has tickets available via Ticketmaster.  There also seems to be a massive bunch of readers in attendance, so join the tropical party!

The Melbourne show at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl was sold out, but has recently had some further GA tickets released.  These are also available via the Aussie version of Ticketmaster.  Having said that, there are plenty of Fourtheye readers looking to sell tickets in the forum, so rather than using Ticketmaster, consider helping out one of your Fourtheye comrades first.  Prior to the Melbourne show there will be an official Fourtheye BBQ, details of which are still being nutted out here.

In Brisbane tickets were on sale for a while, but a quick check this morning shows that it’s now sold out!  As with the Melbourne show though there are Fourtheye readers with tickets to sell, so check out the tickets thread for details.

The remaining dates are all Big Day Out shows.  Of these the Gold Coast, Melbourne and 1st Sydney dates are sold out, with tickets available for the rest.  Get them from the usual ticketing outlets.  There are a few BDO tickets for sale in the ticketing thread, so make sure you check them out if you’re in the market.  Note that day 2 of the Sydney Big Day Out is now a 2 for 1 type deal, which is pretty good value if you ask me!

No word yet if there will be any special merchandise or posters for the tour.  Presumably there will be some kind of tour shirt available, but I know there are several Fourtheye readers keen to get their hands on an autographed poster should they become available…

Over the next couple of days I will be creating threads in this forum for each of the shows.  In order to retain the element of surprise for some Fourtheye readers (including myself) set lists from gigs will only be allowed to be posted in these threads.  Setlists posted outside of the official thread (including in blog comments) will not be looked upon kindly.

Did anyone here go to the last Tool concert at the Myer Music Bowl?

Was it possible to get a good view of the stage from General Admission?

i went to the last one. i’m 185cm and could see easily from the back of GA. my wife is about 160cm and she had to move around to find a gap between people to see. being outdoors, the wind also washed the sound around a bit.

i too recommend getting there early and getting as close to the front as possible

For the sideshow, I recommend going to Brisbane where Tool will be playing indoors, the GA is awesome and so are the seats. It’s only a 20 hour drive over 1700km… Seriously though, I was at the last gig back on Jan 31 2007 at the Myer Music Bowl and I agree with what’s said above: line up early if you want a good spot in the GA. If you can, get there mid-afternoon or earlier and wait it out. You’ll have plenty of people to chat to and they’ll probably have similar music interests. Last time security took forever to… Read more »

Jealous. The shows stateside were amazing; you will not be disappointed. Since I moved to NYC I am hoping for a brief US East Coast stint prior to recording… From his most recent Puscifer blog post it sounds like Maynard has plans for all three of his projects this year. Awesometown. Rock out.

Sadly Brisbane (and most of Queensland) is getting fucked over by the weather pretty hard at the moment. Hopefully our comrades over there are handling the conditions well, and also that it doesn’t effect the upcoming Tool shows…

I hope so…shit we’re supposed to be flying up on the day…hopefully all is well.
Not to mention those affected by such a tragedy :/

The floods up there are pretty bad and hopefully everyone concerned is okay but things definitely aren’t good.

I mean this with all due respect and no poor humour whatsoever but we won’t be hearing songs like Aenema and maybe not Vicarious. That might not come across to well. Anyway, maybe Tool and the other BDO artists will do something to raise money. I’m just speculating so please don’t take offence if I’ve said something inappropriate etc. Lees and West will probably do something. I don’t know.

^So you think MJK will sing Aenema (the song) at the Brisbane sideshow on Mon Jan 24? The lyrics aren’t too pleasant given the circumstances. Vicarious would still be okay I guess but I can’t imagine Aenema. You know someone (not me) out there will get offended, complain etc. as they always do or the media would make some big deal out of it. I can see it happening – people love controversy…

my mate who lives in Brisbane has assured me that the flood is not likely to effect the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, the venue for the side show.

Well.. the area around the entertainment center, not the center itself!
Looks kinda good, but you can easily see that roads, power, public transport could be impacted and still having issues in a fortnight…
I have contacted them via email asking for an update (http://www.brisent.com.au/default.asp?PageID=31&n=Contact+Brisbane+Entertainment+Centre) and also joined up to the mailing list incase they do an announcement or update there with whats going on.

I am also gritting my teeth over these Brisbane Tool shows.

Book my flights three days ago… is the airport affected?

I will be relying on this thread for all information regarding and will appreciate any as it comes.

Thanks in advance.

Response from BEC

Dear vuduuu,

Thank you for your enquiry.

The Brisbane Entertainment Centre was fortunate enough not to be greatly effected by the flooding and as a result the Tool concert is planned to go ahead. However there are some surrounding suburbs and main roads that have suffered some flooding which may effect your travel plans. We advise that you consult the weather reports and flood zone maps for further information. Below are some useful links.

Kind Regards

The roads to the Entertainment centre from Brisbane/Gold Coast are surrounded by flood plains…

Can we use the Gateway Motorway as usual to get there?
