Danny to play with Adrian Belew, Tony Levin & Pat Mastellotto

On Blair’s advice, with the worlds worst internet connection, I waited for 5 minutes for a bunch of shitty flash to load on Danny’s website for the following excellent news: Danny will be performing three shows with the Adrian Belew Power Trio featuring Tony Levin & Pat Mastellotto. The shows are:

  • October 22 – Galaxy Theatre, Santa Ana, California
  • October 23 – The Foundry, Phoenix, Arizona
  • October 24 – The Santa Fe Brewing Company, Santa Fe, New Mexico

More details are available on Danny’s site, though being Flash I couldn’t copy and paste it onto this one. No details about tickets though, I’d suggest checking with each venue for details.

Someone needs to explain to Belew what ‘trio’ means… Should be awesome shows. Shame Claypool couldn’t do it.

I saw Adrian Belew Power trio last sunday and it was a great show. It’s in 3 parts, first it’s The Stickmen ( Tony Levin , Pat Mastellotto, Markus Reuter), then it’s Adrian Belew Power trio with Julia slick on bass and Tobias Ralph on drums. And for the grand finale of King Crimson songs, everybody joins in. Go see them if you have the chance!

@ Stef – Nice to see you posting again. Can you believe these losers didn’t give a shit about these shows until they found out DC would be sitting in?!? I’ve had my tix to the SF show for months, and even posted about it here.

Damn, I wish Danny would bring his ass up here one of these days. He’ll go to fucking AZ and NM, but not a few hours up the coast? Beeyatch. =p

Hey hellboy, just a friendly reminder that the rumour mill is a bit outdated.  Any updates other than Mastodon’s album being out and The Pot video rumours spinning up again?

Since there is not a single way to post this message on ToolArmy being that the message board and private messaging system is so fucked, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see some of these dates with Volto and other Danny Carey related acts on the east coast of the US. Doesnt have to be a tour.. just a few ones off’s a month until we get some TOOL!

Amen. Fuck Puscifer this is a show I want to see. It is basically King Crimson minus Robert Fripp, which of course, could never be King Crimson, but you get the point. Really talented group of musicians. Can’t even imagine how cool it will be to have Danny and Pat drumming at the same time.

Belew / Levin tonight in SF!! 3rd row. Just about to head out the door. I am not even going to let it get to me that Danny couldn’t be bothered to hit THIS gig, even though it’s a hell of a lot closer than AZ or New Fucking Mexico… oh well.

Going to be E.P.I.C.

Amazing show! No spoilers unless someone asks, but there were some unexpected gems in the set lists! I chatted briefly with Adrian and his bass player Julie, as well as Tony and Pat. Found out what Danny will be doing with them. They sounded very excited. If you are anywhere near these shows, don’t hesitate.

Lucky fucker. How many KC songs did they play? I would assume most were off Adrian Belew’s solo albums?

Well, I guess nobody cares too much about spoilers, so… Levin’s group, StickMen pulled out an unbelievable gem in their set, sighting the fact that the Crim was coming, so they would sneak this in for good measure. Robert Fripp “Breathless” from Exposure. It was unexpected and sublime. They later proceeded to play a nice selection from Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. They all forgot their set lists, so just pulled the rest out of their arises apparently. It was all excellent despite then first couple of tunes suffering from a shit mix. Way too brittle and the bass notes were farting… Read more »

@ Mog – no, the only Fripp in attendance was his sister. She is pretty fucking funny, and not the least bit ashamed of hawking tremendous amounts of merchandise. The place was packed and the energy was high. They really put on an excellent show, still buzzing from it. Got the poster (cheap at $10) and they all signed it, chatting happily. From memory, definitely not complete: Levin / Matelloto (Stickmen): played for about 45min Soup Slow Glide Breathless (!) Relentless Firebird Suite Belew: played for about an hour Young Lions Beat Box Guitar Neurotica (what a treat!) Madness Of… Read more »

Amazing. Happy for you dude. Excellent selection for the Crimson set. Although, I wonder what was it like without Robert playing guitar? It is hard for me to imagine a Fripless KC. Hell when I think of KC I think Robert Fripp and a revolving door of talented musicians but it has always been his show.

looks like I’m heading to the show solo tonight. I have nothing but amazingly high expectations that I know will be exceeded.

Hope somebody gets some audio at least.

Yes, Jose was definitely there. I just talked to Mikey (Oliveri) on the phone for an hour and he told me that he got some video. I can try to get it from him….I’d get some tonight but my phone would only disappoint….

Fantastic! Thank you. I only checked out half of two different songs, won’t watch the entire performance. That is reserved for people who paid to see the show. The beginning of Indiscipline with Danny was superb.

last night was truly amazing. I had never had the pleasure of seeing any of the KC guys play in any form before. I’m pretty sure my fiancee and I were some of the only people in there that hadn’t just crawled out of their parent’s basement for the first time since the Discipline tour….the venue was perfect. nice and small. the sound was good…great, actually. they just had a bunch of fold-out chairs all lined up and zip-tied together. not a shitty seat in the house

Oh, those lucky mother fuckers! Julie didn’t say that Danny was going to play the entire show in place of Tobias… fuck, if I knew that I may have tried to get down to LA, so it’s for the best…. Love that Danny was wearing his Zappa shirt. Can’t check the vid until later, but looking forward to it. Thanks guys.

Jared, I knew it would blow your mind. If you weren’t already a KC fan, I bet you are now, huh?
