Mastodon & Meshuggah join Soundwave 2012

Tool touring buddies Mastodon and Meshuggah have both been confirmed as part of the 2012 Soundwave Festival down here in Australia.  The festival, which also includes headline acts System of a Down (which may well feature our buddy Junior on lights) and Slipknot, tours around Australia in February and March.  Here’s the dates:

  • Saturday 25 RNA Showgrounds, Brisbane
  • SUNDAY 26 SYDNEY OLYMPIC PARK
  • FRIDAY 2 MELBOURNE SHOWGROUNDS
  • SATURDAY 3 ADELAIDE BONYTHON PARK
  • MONDAY 5 PERTH CLAREMONT SHOWGROUNDS

Tickets go on sale on the 20th of October.  The full lineup for the event is:

SYSTEM OF A DOWN
SLIPKNOT
LIMP BIZKIT * MARILYN MANSON
HOLE * A DAY TO REMEMBER * MACHINE HEAD
LAMB OF GOD * TRIVIUM * ALTER BRIDGE
LOSTPROPHETS * ANGELS & AIRWAVES * COBRA STARSHIP
THE USED * YOU ME AT SIX * DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT
UNWRITTEN LAW * COAL CHAMBER * DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL
THURSDAY * FOREVER THE SICKEST KIDS * RAISED FIST
DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN * ZAKK WYLDE’S BLACK LABEL SOCIETY
MASTODON * UNDEROATH * SAVES THE DAY * CIRCA SURVIVE
STEEL PANTHER * JACK’S MANNEQUIN * MESHUGGAH * ZEBRAHEAD
THE SISTERS OF MERCY * ENTER SHIKARI * FOUR YEAR STRONG
BLACK VEIL BRIDES * MADINA LAKE * HATEBREED * BIOHAZARD
TIMES OF GRACE * CKY * STREET DOGS * DRAGONFORCE
GOJIRA * KVELERTAK * LETLIVE * HELLYEAH * CRO-MAGS

KILL HANNAH * CHIMAIRA * THE DANGEROUS SUMMER
FRAMING HANLEY * WATAIN * ROYAL REPUBLIC
I AM THE AVALANCHE * TURISAS
RIVER CITY EXTENSION

Personally while not many of the big names interest me, I’m keen on seeing Meshuggah (we may well be the first to hear tracks off their new album), Mastodon, System of a Down, Machine Head, Dillinger Escape Plan, Steel Panther, Hatebreed, Biohazard, Gojira, Kvelertak and Hellyeah.

With the possible exception of Mastodon and Sisters Of Mercy, everything on that list screams “WHAT THE FUCK?!?!? IS THIS A JOKE?!?!?” in a voice so loud that one could hear it as far as Tasmania. For whatever reason, decent music seems to have a low opinion of Australia. I look at the line-ups for other festivals overseas (like All Tomorrow’s Parties for instance) and think “Why? Why can’t we have something like that? What did we as a country do to piss off all these great acts? We seem to always get the bottom of the barrel scrapings. The… Read more »

Come on liz admit it, its a crap line up. Jay may have a monopoly on musical obscurity, but i agree with his statement. I’ll go to a couple of sideshows but im not wasting my time on that peice of shit.

Ok I’ll be honest I had that pic just waiting for Jay lol. But I am actually looking forward to quite a bit at Soundwave. There is quite a lot I haven’t heard yet and I always listen to a bit of everything on the line up before I draw up my dance card. SOAD I’ve seen and will be very happy to see again same with Slipnot and I’ll be interested to see how Courtney goes (she was appalling last time). Gojira keen to see, always enjoy Dillenger Escape Plan, Mastodon very excited, Steel Panthers could be fun, so… Read more »

I thought it sounded like a pretty fun festival. I would kill to see new meshuggah material, and they are suppose to be writing a new album. Black label could be cool, zak wylde may or may not be a dbag? But he can shred when called upon. Steel panther would be fun. I have seen Lamb of God a few times live, and they hit the heavy hard brother. Also, Hellyeah, if possible you have to see Vinnie Paul live on the drums. Heavy Metal Hero no doubt. A few other worth while acts as well if you are… Read more »

I like the look of the line up. So much better than Big Day Out, now that was disappointing.

Ditto.  This is a great lineup.  reminiscent of the big day out’s in the late 90’s.  For those arguing about the quality of the lineup – as always it comes down to taste.  I didn’t go to the last Soundwave because I thought the lineup sucked.  This time around it suits me to a tea.

That line up was fucking hilarious – purely because it would’ve sold like hotcakes 7-8 years ago. Limp Bizkit? System Of A Down? Hole? Marilyn Manson? Trivium? Why not throw Blink 182, Everclear or Placebo into the mix for good measure? If we’re going to sink to the bottom, may as well sink all the way. For further proof of the decline of modern ‘alternative’ you need only refer to look at how far JJJ has gone downhill. Complete and utter fucking shit abounds on that station, and has for at least the past 10 – 15 years. Reminds me… Read more »

It’s a bargain bin grab bag of alternative has beens and never weres. Not sure how any self respecting individual over the age of 25 could get excited for this.

How so? Seems you are the one ‘out of touch’ , suggesting something for kate for a metal festival?

As opposed to an ATP festival full of 90s has beens?

Yr hardly gonna find the likes of Limp Bizkit or Marilyn Manson at an ATP festival.

It’s like watching grown men salivate at the prospect of another Spiderman film.

Ok, from the hip, I’m a bit pissed (I cooked dinner for eleven tonight so I’m allowed to be). What is all this holier than thou shit about the line up for our second, (as far as I am concerned first) major festival? If you breath ratified air then suck it in. Stay at home while I and thousands of others enjoy a day of sounds old and new all collected in the same space. God I love someone with some organisational skills! Winge , bitch and most of all do not attend. I really like elbow room so the… Read more »

You have to admit, there are some terrible bands listed here. Limp Bizkit alone should be self-evident of this.

I’m certainly not goin to see bizkit or Manson. Or even slipknot, never been a fan of them. But mastodon, machine head, meshuggah, lamb of god and trivium yeah for sure !! @jay how are trivium at the bottom and/or dated ?? Wtf ? They are only young blokes for starters, their new album “in waves” would be one if my faves of 2012 and their last one “shogun” is one of my faves of all time. I saw em at bdo 2007 and they ripped it up !! Wonder what you’d say if TOOL were on the bill ? They’ve… Read more »

Can anyone do any better? Does anyone realize what it takes to get that many bands in one place at one time and organize that event?

Here’s a suggestion: don’t go

True. Could you imagine though? Joking aside though I feel kind of bad for our aussie brothers. I thought Soundwave was supposed to be their balls to the walls kick ass rock festival. How in the hell did Limp Bisquick get on that list?

I left Baroness off that list. Someone smack me.

Yeah right, next you’ll be claiming The Offspring even topped it one year
