‘][‘ [[]] [[]] ][, posted in the forums this morning at the September Tool newsletter has been released, and low and behold I found it stashed away in the Newsletters section of the site (no sign of it in the News section).
The newsletter itself is the usual cryptic type, hinting at a lack of progress in the new Tool album (though there may be a hint of sarcasm there) as well as “Adam’s other Tool-related project (other than it is draining the very life out of him)” which I believe is the next video he’s working on.

I’m really starting to think these guys are not even interested in putting out another album and the only reason we’ll get one is they are contractually obligated for one. Maynard is the only one in the group who actually seems to work. I’m predicting mid 2013 for the album, and The Pot video never sees the light of day (it’ll sit on the shelf, half completed, next to the live DVD). Makes me sad.

I don’t feel like reading the April 2006 newsletter that was referenced, but it sounds like Tool is having issues with their label/suits in general?
There Blair goes being dishonest again. The truth he won’t share is that the curse is not from Alaska but from that backstage photo of Danny and Adam with guy wearing speedos coupled with the star spangled banner sandwiched in between a project known as puscifer (in studio so far.)
Oh, and the pot video coming four to five years late, but that’s just icing on the cake (or icing on the curse.)
I’m guessing the newsletter report is mostly bored sarcasm. Last newsletter, Blair reports on how much progress has been made and how “awesome” the new material sounds – the next release states that the sessions have been virtually abandoned with the equipment in disarray and instruments not been touched in several weeks?
I don’t think so.
They’d be in the final stages of the writing process by now. And Maynard is no doubt already working on lyrics.
Although I could be wrong.
I guess the newsletter could just mean that potentially Adam, Justin and Danny have done all they can do before Maynard reconvenes with them (which HB alluded to in another thread).
If that’s the case, then I may just be tempted to go off the Tool radar for a while and come back in 4 or 5 months to check up…

After all this time of waiting for this new video, I really think Rosetta Stoned which is almost twice as long as the Pot would be a better option, not only to make the time of finding a 3D and/or Imax worth it, but because it tells a story unlike the Pot which I think would be spectacular to see played out in 3D with Adam and Alex working together with their art. As for the new Tool album, I’m pretty sure we can expect a May 2012 release date. I have heard from Billy that APC probably won’t be doing… Read more »

Sounds like to me that they’ve been at their own pace, generally writing in bursts, making their own recordings to try to work pieces together. Hit some technical snags, decided, lets not get in a funk about this, Adam go have fun with the video, danny and justin head out to alaska for a short trip. When they congregate again… they still are having technical troubles, and Adam is drained and busy. It’s not like anyone is still expecting them to hit the studio this year. I personally thought it was a great newsletter. Informative although possibly sarcastic, bizarre, and fun as usual, and gave some interesting insights. Personally, i would honestly rather hear that they were not working, than hear nothing at all, actually. It does seem like they are waiting for Maynard to wrap up, which is good. Drum track lost is a bummer. I also thought there was some hope for the future in there! Adam definitely working on something! Most likely the pot video. Sounded great to me.

Doubtful. Nardo has made it fairly clear that Tool is his least important project. I am telling you if Nardo really gave a shit about Tool and his fellow bandmates and was actively involved in the writing process the new album would have been out a long time ago. You Nardo fans can apologize for him all you want. The problem has never been with Danny, Adam, or Justin.
So it is all Maynards fault. I say you kill him.

I thought it was a good newsletter. It actually gave us some personal reasons for possible languor with the new album. Reminded us even rock stars have their bad days. It mentioned Adams work on a new tool related project, which would seem to confirm Hellboys mention of the pot video. Bitch all you want, everyone will be happy to view it. Any TooL stalker worth their weight in TooL vinyl knows this. It happened a few years ago. Camella has moved on and just had a baby last month with her new man. She has been living in Mexico since the divorce.
