Pretty high on most Tool fans wishlist is a Live DVD, and in a recent Toolband article Blair dropped a hint that may or may not suggest it’ll happen soon:
In this photo taken by Rynne, is Tool manager Pete… A) Pondering the future release date for the band’s live DVD?.. B) Waiting for Arsenal to play?.. C) Trying to contact UFO occupants near the White Mountains?..
Live DVD huh? I’ve heard that one before! I suspect most of you will believe there actually are UFO’s near the White Mountains before acknowledging that this will happen any time soon. Then again I have heard to expect some good things from Tool in 2012, so you never know…
Here’s a picture of Cowboy Chancellor:
If TOOL releases a live DVD I’ll quit smoking.
If tool releases a live DVD I’ll pick back up smoking ganja!
They did mention at the show that something big was coming May 1st.
Which show?
If TooL releases a live dvd…..
I’ll find someone with a big ass tv to host a viewing party!
+1
I have a big ass tv and a loud ass stereo to go with it. 🙂
ehhh fuck it…. which show?
If tool releases a live DVD….
I will probably illegally download a copy
So is the septagram on the fish posters the live dvd and we are all the fish swimming to swallow it up?
I doubt the dvd is in the works. Blair has teased this topic on many occaisions only to later shoot it down.
What is this “good things from Tool in 2012” comment about? Did someone make an assertion that was truly that vague, or were more specific hints offered?
Since there haven’t been any sort of film crew at any TOOL show in over ten years any DVD released would be Lateralus era footage. Does anyone here really think they’d put out a DVD or Bluray shot in low def from old ass footage? Besides, Blair needs to shut his piehole and write the January newsletter already. Although, there might have been cameras at the top secret, invite only, LA shows that happened to kick off this mini tour, but even if there were I wouldn’t be able to talk about said show or cameras or set lists or… Read more »

May 1st or May 2nd “Get Ready” – This can only mean the next album!!! 6 years after 10,000 days. There seems to be some confusion, those weren’t dates. What it said was “Player 1 Get Ready!” and “Player 2 Get Ready!” for the Asteroids game. If they do release a live DVD, I hope it’s from the Lateralus tour. Those setlists were fucking… Read more »

I too have a big ass TV and fantastic surround sound. We could have several viewing parties around the world, lol, and link them up live online, haha.
i can’t find it now, but didn’t blair say in a recent newsletter that the live DVD thing is probably not happening, or at least not in any foreseeable future? maybe i’m making that up.
…Maybe he was making that up…
You never know with him…
Though it’s been said in the past and never come to fruition… he speculated on the winter tour, and that happened.
So.. who knows. Personally, I hope they release a live DVD with footage spanning their entire career. A few songs from each album?
The DVD will come out in a couple more years, when DVDs are completely obsolete.
Well let’s remember Blair has said that “The Next Big Thing Has Not Cum Yet”..
And, “Be Patient, Good Things Are Cumming”..
Yes, the Live DVD will be released the day after the world ends..
;-}~
^
lol
I read somewhere that TOOL records every show they play in HD. Is there any truth to that?
I wouldn’t doubt it. I’m sure they have quite an amazing collection of their own HD footage.
Lets find their stash spot!!!
no way in hell am i getting my hopes up again for a live dvd. blairs big thing was supposed to happen like what?? four years ago??
Blair hinting at something? Wow thats a first :/ Not holding my breath.
he-he-he)
Not saying its anything but I always see a single camera in the left corner of the sound booth…
Just about every major band does this so they can review their performance. A single stationary camera is certianly not enough to make a live DVD from.
Oh gaaaawd. This again. Well, i hope it happens. But Blair did say in a recent newsletter not to hold your breath. Now hes hinting at it? Why must they toy with my mind?
every show that i know of is recorded by a stationary camera. the purpose for this is for jr. and the sound guy to watch if they had any problems so they can correct them. and i’m guessing it’s not proshot either. 😉
I wasn’t asking about the cameras because I suspected the footage in a DVD. I know it’s usually just a single stationary camera. But considering how cheap good cameras have gotten lately, I’m sure they could shit out an HD live ‘video’ with mastered sound real quick. But yes, I agree, it wouldn’t be anything like a full camera rig.
would a live DVD count as a release? if yes, their contract would be finished……so probably no new album 🙁
……………….which show?
I called it…3D Live DVD…cumming
Its gonna be a double cd with some live footage
.)
Ew, please no 3D.
Seems strange to do that. They’d make more money with separate releases, I’d imagine.
They need more money?
No, but they want it.
Also, I don’t know anything about record contracts, but I’d imagine the lawyers would have put in a clause that states ‘A live DVD is not an album.’

Probably would be considered the same as Salival.
Ultrasuper IMAX 3D Fathom Event playing in Iowa, was the rumor I heard.
I’ll believe ya when me shit turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbet.
as far fetched as the DVD does seem, it would make more sense of the last few tours and the additions of some songs on the more recent setlists
Of course they’ll do it eventually. It also makes sense that as they are gearing up for probably their last album they will consider the DVD release timing.
Being the perfectionists that they are I can hardly imagine that they will allow their live DVD legacy to be the work of someone else.
They’d be more likely to do one of those cinema release concerts than a live dvd.
