Volto! gig! Maynard! speaks!

For some reason I rarely seem to post Volto! gigs, but I figured there’s no time like the present to start!  Especially as they have a new album coming out soon.  According to Blair the next gig is on Friday the 24th of February at the Baked Potato, and features two sets.  Entry is $25 a bookings in advance are recommended.

In other old news, Maynard did some public speaking in Arizona over the weekend, talking about his experiences in moving there, and even quoting some Puscifer lyrics.  Here’s a pic courtesy of some dudes on reddit:

Did you not see the video I posted of Maynard quoting the song, or did you deem that unworthy of news status?
Also, that screwed up aspect ratio on that picture makes Maynard look comically short and pudgy.

I did but we all know how Maynard feels about videos…

Fair enough, and way to change the ratio and make me look like a lunatic.
I need to move to LA. I’m missing out on too many music gigs.

He’s lookin’ a little flabby around the neck.

It’s rare for a man to be unable to wear a suit well, and yet here we are.

Did you mess with some elses post again Hellboy? Dictatorship in here lol. Is there a reason why you cant leave threads up and let them die on their own?

I posted about this months Volto! show in the Volto! thread over a month ago.
They posted this under the audio sample comments “VOLTO!: thank you very much, everyone! more clips soon…
and then the album, cheers!”
Really hope they do a vinyl.

Arizona Stronghold is the official winery of Arizona Centennial Celebrations. The 100th anniversary of Arizona entering the U.S. as the 48th state is tomorrow.

Which lyrics did he quote? I’m assuming it wasn’t the ones about vaginas

He should have read Country Boner in the same fashion. Think he would have gotten the same response?

It looks like someone posted the majority of his talk. Unfortunately it is filmed 90degrees off, but worth a listen.

Nice to see/read about him making a public appearance talking about how he feels. Showed a more human side. I appreciate that from him.

However, I think he would probably be the only person that I would go see at the weekly “Storytellers Tent: Phoenix, AZ”
Somehow the only speakers I can imagine at Storytellers Tent: Phoenix, AZ on a Sunday night are old people talking about the good old days. When they used to shoot commies and get syphilis from French women.

Also worth noting, around the 6:40 mark he says “Currently, I’m on an international tour, presenting a new collection of stories with my multimedia project called Puscifer.”

To the best of my knowledge no non-US dates have been announced. Bring on the angry Tool folks to dictate how Maynard should be spending his time.

Dear hellboy, With all the fantastic upgrades to 4th-eye as of late, is it possible that you could make external links target=”_blank”? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come here, saw an interesting post, followed the link to an informative article, then closed the tab wanting to return to 4th-eye and read the responses to the post, only to be heartbroken that I have closed the tab that had 4th-eye in it’s history. Is this a trivial issue? Yes. Am I being ridiculous? Yes. Have I even made any monetary contributions to your efforts to support 4th-eye? No. But,… Read more »

My family went this Arizona Centennial Celebration to see the Gin Blossoms and Michelle Branch, so I of course declined the invite. FUCK ME SIDEWAYS. If i had known maynard would be giving a talk and that AZ Strongholds was hosting then I would have been there.

I’m guessing all his snarky aggression comes from a Napoleonic complex about his penis.

Maynard is 5’7″ of stormy cantankerousness. He only tops out over 5’10” if he’s wearing those “come fuck me” stilettos that he sometimes used to wear during gigs, back in the day.

Not really, it’s much easier to memorise something as a song rather that just as a pure speech.

I suppose so. He also looked pretty nervous, I’m guessing that had something to do with it as well.

Well do you mean odd in the sense that he had to read something he’s probably got memorized and has sung countless times?
OR odd that he choose his own lyics/song/quoted himself/etc. instead of quoting someone else or coming up with more “original” remarks?

Ravenpig

The first one. I have no problem with him using his own lyrics.
