Puscifer Donkey Punch the Night

Puscifer continues its trend of releasing a whole bunch of music by giving us a new EP Donkey Punch The Night which will be released just before the Australian tour next year. From the press release:

“While continuing our tradition of releasing a few new songs at a time. I also had an itch that needed scratching,
and that itch was ‘Balls To The Wall.’ Which was followed by an even harder to reach itch known as ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’
And scratch them we did.” – Maynard James Keenan

Puscifer’s “Donkey Punch The Night” coming Feb. 19. The 8-song release track listing:

1. Bohemian Rhapsody “O.G. Mix”
2. Breathe
3. Dear Brother
4. Balls To The Wall “PIllow Fight Mix”
5. Breathe “Drumcell rework”
6. Dear Brother “Denton rework” (Big Black Delta)
7. Balls To The Wall “Silent Servant El Guapo Mix”
8. Bohemian Rhapsody “Sonoio rework”

Puscifer tour dates:

February 22 Brisbane, Australia The Tivoli
February 26 Sydney, Australia Enmore Theatre
February 28 Melbourne, Australia The Palais Theatre
March 31 Sao Paulo, Brazil Lollapalooza Brazil
April 6 & 7 Santiago, Chile Lollapalooza Chile *

*Puscifer performance date TBA

As that suggests, Puscifer are playing in Australia and South American in 2013, so make sure you grab some tickets!

Update: Here’s some further details on the EP courtesy of Antiquiet:

The collection features two new songs written by Keenan and Puscifer cohorts Mat Mitchell, Carina Round and Josh Eustis: Breathe and Dear Brother as well as two covers: Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody and Accept’s Balls To The Wall. Donkey Punch The Night was recorded in Jerome, Ariz. in Keenan’s Caduceus Cellars (www.caduceus.org) with the same roster from 2011′s Conditions of My Parole (Keenan, Mitchell, Round, Eustis, Matt McJunkins and Jeff Friedl) and guests Zac Rae (piano), Juliette Commagere (vocals), Josh Morreau (bass) and Claire Acey (vocals).

Remixes of the four songs round-out the release with contributions from Los Angeles techno wizard Drumcell, Big Black Delta (AKA Jonathan Bates, formerly of Mellowdrone and touring guitarist for M83), Sonoio (Italian multi-instrumentalist Alessandro Cortini of Modwheelmood and touring keyboard player for Muse and NIN) and Central American DJ, Silent Servant, who is well known for his mash-up of post-punk and techno.

Will our fearless leader be attending any of the Puscifer/APC show/shows?

New music is always new music. Lets hope Tool’s itch is about to be scratched aswell.

I wonder when this was recorded, Carina just finished her solo tour that she’s been on the past few months.

Mat Mitchell and Carina have been tweeting several pics of the recording process over the last several weeks, one of which was Carina using an Apogee Duet mic interface w/Mac Pro in what looked like a hotel room. Looks like they’re back to recording “V is for…” style. I, for one, am stoked for the release!

I’m excited too. Hopefully it’s better than Conditions. Not that conditions was bad, but it wasn’t as good as the other releases.

No more rants from me. Not sure I would even buy a new Tool album at this point. Not sure I want to support this band any longer. Tool have always done their own thing, and I have respected them for that. Because in the end, the payoff was worth it. They always delivered. But this, whatever this is, I don’t respect it. I don’t respect the fact that Tool doesn’t have enough respect for their fans to at least be honest with us. After 20+ years you would think we would have earned that much consideration. Others would argue… Read more »

^lol…..

Mog grab a beer and kick the fuck back with us while we all wait in misery.

Heh, I just realized Mogus is Mog. A question, what does Tool have to be honest with us about right now? They obviously don’t have anything to say so, oh well. This EP screams (to me anyway) of May Jay filling in a gap in time. It’s two new songs, two covers, and 4 remixes. Justin is apparently finishing up the MT Void record, I’m guessing Danny’s doing the same with Volto!, and who the hell knows what Adam is doing. What could they possibly tell us right now?

@HB – Not “going” anywhere. Just not worth my time being a fan any longer. Plenty of good years, good experiences, but not sure it is possible to gain back enough respect for Tool to support them in any manner going forward. @raven – They could tell us why they are currently working on side projects when they have stated that they are working on a new Tool album. Some mystery album they have been working on for two years which seems fairly obvious at this point that will never see the light of day. @GB – I don’t drink… Read more »

Those are all very valid points, though they do also describe your least favorite member of Tool.

– Fair, although I probably should have clarified that statement. Artists constantly creating GOOD music. Shit is still shit no matter how often you release it.

Puscifer isn’t great but it isn’t shit.

But that’s just like our opinions, man.

I have to admit I’m interested in hearing Puscifer’s take on Bohemian Rhapsody.

There’s a video on YouTube somewhere with him and Billy covering it. Not that good but it also isn’t a great recording.

jaimie

Oh yeah because the quality of the recording MUST be why it doesn’t sound good.

Totally not what I wrote there. I didn’t like the cover, I added that its not a good recording. Happy now?

I like how Mog prefaced his rant with ‘No more rants for me’.

Maynard… he’s just so occupied these days. I think this will be the last Tool album because it seems like he’s just interested in other things now. Every new Tool album (if there are any) from now on is just going to take longer and longer to release. The Toolband website is just a bunch of lame shit and every “newsletter” is wasted on a rambling of some random crap that has nothing to do with Tool. I look on the website now and there’s a posting of a dude who loves playing with bells and bowls… Ok, great news… Read more »

Really? Covers? How audacious to cover Bohemian Rhapsody. I’ll be incredibly surprised if they pull that off.

Bohemian rhapsody is clearly not a cover. It’s obviously him scratching an itchy wild hair.
Jeez….

Also if it makes you feel any better the cover of Bohemian will be Emotive style will make no sense, sound nothing like the original and most likely will completely fucking suck.

Well, that’s it for me. Good night everybody! They don’t seem to give a shit so why should I. MJK is now free to do whatever he wants; wine, puscifart, acting, whatever. He has earned that right to do whatever he wants to do. Knock yourself out Nardo. I hope you find whatever it is your chasing.

AND *IF* there is another official Tool release, I’ll probably buy it. But it’ll be off Amazon and it’ll be used. I’m done lining their lazy-ass pockets with my cash.

No because it’s MY recording haha

Every time I come on here I see the same people butthurt about Tool not releasing an album yet. All you do is complain and say “I’m done supporting this band”. Good, Don’t then. Stop coming on here and whining about it. You obviously care enough to visit the forum everyday to complain about it. All I know is when Tool finally comes out with their album i’m going to get it and be fucking amazed cause its still going to be better than 90% of the music released today.

Me? “Butthurt”? Hardly. All I’m saying is I’ve lost interest and patience. If you want to keep hanging around, and being jerked around, go ahead. I don’t care what you do. Nor will I slag you for it. If you want to keep buying rehashed or revamped crap from a guy who needs YOUR money to support his vineyard, go ahead. I’m sure he laughs all the way to the bank. But if you ARE happy with the product, good on you. Win/win for all concerned.

All I was stating is how we don’t get any updates on the progress at all, only very rarely in a “newsletter”. And how irrelevant the “news” is on toolband. I’ll always be with Tool though.
