In news that is certainly a surprise to me, Tool have been booked to play the Japanese version of Ozzfest in May 2013. The lineup also includes Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Slash, Deftones and Stone Sour. Tool are mentioned as playing the 12th of May as the second headliner before Black Sabbath. I guess someone made them an offer they couldn’t refuse! Don’t go booking your flights just yet though – I’d wait for some kind of confirmation from Toolband first!
Wow, that is a shocker. Maybe they plan on having the album out by then and this is one of the first dates of the world tour?
Dont fool yourself, they are just going to the Opiate cd from the cd player, sit/smile and “crowd talk” much more between recorded songs.
wonder if maynard will keep his new version of HWAP with that dope slipknot tee…
Its interesting. First chance at hearing a new tune? May is a ways away.
Well it does say “new” tool so yeah, i would expect new music…
Even if I was in Japan at that time I would pass knowing full well they would play the same setlist.
You mean how they played the same setlist last tour?
Yea i really hoped the last tour would shut people up about the set list for a while. Last tours set was nothing short of fantastic.
Man these are all bands I would love to see. With the exception of Stone Sour and Slipknot. Slash is kind of a meh for me. I would probably check it out, if there wasn’t anything else going on. I’m curious about Black Sabbath, are they worth seeing? I’ve seen people on here interested in seeing them live, but I don’t think I’ve ever actually heard any reviews or feedback or anything.
This seems off. All the way to Japan for one show? It’s either part of a bigger tour or not true.
I think the cheese doth teaseth
They fired Bill Ward, so it’s sort of a Sabbath cover band.
I’m so glad I moved to Japan. I’ll let you know the set list
I feel the same about Tool since they kicked out Paul
LOL @ Hellboiiii. This could be a mistake but it would be awesome if its true because that also means world tour with this as one stop. May as a release date is seeming more likely.
Well Deftones just confirmed they’ll be there, so this is looking legit.
It’s on ozzfest.com it’s legit
Seriously doubt they will have the album out by May if they havn’t even finished writing yet… but then it does seem a bit random for a one off show… hmmm
Unless there’s a vast conspiracy underway, they haven’t even started recording yet, so an album in May has virtually no chance.
Well you didn’t even know they were doing this show so what do you know? 🙂
May seems like a reasonable release date if Tool is in the studio in January. How long have previous album releases taken from the time Tool entered the studio?
At least 6 months. Unless Tool have recorded in secret there’s no chance of a May album release.
6 months. hmm.
It’s possible they plan to tour while the album is in post production. By May, the band’s management likely has a more important role in the album’s release than the band members. Isn’t it common for bands to go on tour during the months leading up to an album release? I want to say that Tool may have toured just before either Lateralus or 10,000 Days, but my memory is somewhat blurred…
A band as anal as Tool does not just leave post production to management. I have no facts to back that up, just an educated guess.
Yep, no chance Adam would leave some bozo in management in charge of the artwork.
I think we might see a the pot DVD release. It’s not like they couldn’t sell a bunch with a month of sales. The best would be a movie theater release. Hopefully their planning on bein fully done by that concert with the album, maybe not out yet, but material wise. Would be cool. Honk I have said this with the last two mini tours though.
Why is slipknot billed above tool?
Slipknot are playing on a different night.
No album until atleast 2020.
What incentive does the band have to release new material when they continue to sell out shows.
That’s only really a valid statement if you believe Tool are only in it for the money. Artistically, there’s plenty of incentive to create a new album regardless of ticket sales.
what if they announce Paul has rejoined the band and Justin is out?
I’m sure we can work together to find a way to troll them regardless of the circumstances.
I think he meant why Tool isn’t the other nights headliner. I was wondering this too, no way in fuck does Slipknot pull in crowds to venues here in the US like Slipknot.
Having BS headline Ozzfest is a no-brainer, but making the other nights headliner the group that puts the second most butts into seats makes much more sense. Wondering if the production will be dumbed down a bit since they’re “opening for BS”.
^^^ I meant to say Slipknot doesn’t pull in crowds like Tool here in the US.
Fuck I can’t post worth a shit on this forum from a phone. Should wait until I’m intoxicated.
Black Sabbath and Slipknot have been announced as headliners for a while now, each headlining one day of the festival. Once a contract has been signed to headline a festival, it’s tough for a promoter to go back to the band and say “sorry, you’re not headlining after all”.
Fair enough, and makes sense.
I’m guessing they got quite a bit of coin thrown their way (cant blame them, large amounts of $$$ can be hard to turn down) for this then. I’ll be optimistic and hope this is part of a larger tour where they eventually release the new album mid 2013.
Black Sabbath is on the very short list of bands I’m ok with Tool opening for.
Pretty wild if MJK will be triple dipping @ Coachella…………. what?!
I’m pretty sure there is a vast conspiracy going on HB.
The albums was recorded yeaarrrrs ago. All will be revealed on Dec. 21st.
Calling it!
One thing is for sure….Blair will post something on December 21st. But it most likely will have nothing to do with Tool. Unless you can decode quizzical puns on society and occult lore.
I think its funny we get news about TOOL on other websites other than theirs. Lately, funny is the only thing I find interesting about TOOL. Their website is really only about pushing someone elses products, gigs, and thoughts. Hey did anyone buy BMB’s book I’m just dying to know what it’s about. Gimme a fuckin break go play in Japan ’cause I know Japanese fans have been way more supportive then us here in the states. Oh and thank God we finally got to here about Justins troubles in Texas, because I wasn’t able to live my life.
Here’s a real funny one. It should say “come on motherfuckers here’s your chance to make your favorite guy in the world even richer then he already is. What’s he going to do for you, nothing you dumbass.” P.S. thank you my little sheep
VOTE FOR CADUCEUS CELLARS AS ARIZONA’S BEST WINERY
MAYNARD’S “CADUCEUS CELLARS” would still very much like your VOTE for Arizona’s BEST WINERY. The contest ENDS ON NOVEMBER 30, and people (meaning YOU!) can vote once a day until then. It only takes seconds to register, so let’s make this happen!
So why do you keep checking the site then?
Toolrocks doesn’t want to check the official site, but he just needs it. To feel, to breathe, to know he’s alive. Same with every Toolhead. Although I usually end up on this site MUCH more for info that Blair’s site.
it was just a funny thought i thought is all
jebus
Apparently toolrocks doesn’t think Tool rocks anymore 🙁
They haven’t rocked since Lateralus.
@Hammer
right. nothing on 10KD “rocks”. nice trollin’.
Ok, Vicarious rocked. Feel better?
This is 2012. Trolls are easily identified within seconds of reading post. Thus preventing flaming and ignorance on forums.
