A Perfect Circle‘s new track By And Down is now streaming on the Spin website as mentioned the other day. Take a listen and post your reviews below!
By And Down comes with the new Greatest Hits Package Three Sixty, and the cover was revealed the other day:
Yeah…….. not interested in this non-perfect circle……… wow….. YUCK!
I think it’s such a great song but the recording sounds hollow and really lacks energy compared to the live performances. Those powerful guitar parts sound so mellow… where’s the emotional intensity in his voice? Maybe warm up to the arrangement, but on first impression it just sounds passionless.
What is going on here? Maynard’s other two bands stand as a pillar of justice when it comes to creative control, originality, and unique albums, ep’s, and other products (minus the Opiate reissue which was extremely irritating to me) But even the Opiate reissue wasn’t as bad as a forced Greatest Hits album from only two previous original albums, and one cover album where the only two seemingly original songs, Passive and Counting Bodies Like Sheep, are also covers technically. Passive being a tapeworm song, and counting bodies is just a remix of Pet, even if they did record all… Read more »
Lol.
someone has issues…
Dude… seriously, stfu and get over it.
I agree… The emotional charge is gone…
Ugh. All these little things from the uninspired compilation title (“360”, wow) to that shitty YouTube teaser and the one-hour Photoshop warp tool job cover artwork that SERIOUSLY didn’t need a YouTube teaser to announce it that make the thing just reek of “we don’t give a fuck, we’re just doing this as cheaply and efficiently as possible and selling it” to me. Too bad, because A Perfect Circle is (was?) a band that deserves more care than this. By And Down sounds OK. I like listening to some of those instrumental parts that got muddied in the live versions… Read more »
We can all agree that this “Greatest Hits” release is unsatisfactory, and of course we would have preferred a brand new album or an EP over this bullshit, but we have to realize that the RECORD COMPANY is putting it out, not Maynard and Billy. There is no doubt that if the members of A Perfect Circle could have it any other way, they would, but it is obvious that they have no say in the matter. At least they put together a live box set as some sort of an alternative to show their fans they do care. I… Read more »
I agreee, I like the song as a closing to the Perfect Circle chapter. Heck they shoulda named it Bye and done.
I agree, I feel it is an appropriate ending to their legacy, however brief (original albums-wise) it was. It’s frustrating seeing so many people bitch at Maynard and Billy regarding this ‘best of’ album, they didn’t want to do it.
Now about that new Ashes Divide album…?
i think its cool that we get this studio version and the live version. i think i’ll probably end up liking the live version better but i haven’t heard a good mix of it. glad they took the time to do it when they could have just released the live version as the new song.
easy tiger…it’s a nice track. better than Puscifier for me
Good call. It’s shitloads better than Puscifer crap.
THAT WE CAN ALLLLLLLL AGREE ON! IT’S CERTAINLY BETTER THAN ANY PUSCIFER TRACK!!!!
I can’t agree to that. There are several Puscifer tracks that are better than this…
Yeah but you take the moral ‘high road’ on any criticism.
Just admit to all these good people that Puscifer is SHITHOUSE!
🙂
In all seriousness, which ones? I haven’t paid much attention to Puscifer over the years, curious what to check out first.
NO WAY… everything I’ve listened to from Puscifer aside from “Potions” (taken from tapeworm) is incredibly hard for me to listen to. So MOST of us can agree that this track is much better than any Puscifer track and maybe not ALL of us.
Tell me you’re joking…
“incredibly hard for me to listen too … so most of us can agree”
There are plenty of PUSCIFER songs that i like just as much, if not more, than ANY single A PERFECT CIRCLE song.
You are wrong. Accept it…
for Zwerewolf’s sake I’m going to go on the record… I like the song. Not sure I’d hold it above much else that APC has done, and I’m not terribly happy with the mix, I feel the vocal and drums are too out in front. But I feel it’s a decent track and had Freese been on the skins, it may have come out sounding like something that could have been on 13th Step. It has a “The Noose” vibe to my ear. Tiny Monsters, The Weaver, Conditions of My Parole, Potions, The Mission, Polar Bear, Horizons are all Puscifer… Read more »
Vagina Mine, Green Valley, The Humbling River, Monsoons, The Undertaker, Indigo Children, Dear Brother, REV 22:20:
Those are all amazing PUSCIFER songs…
the greatest hits is the record company not the bands. as stated already so dont buy it if you think it sucks. im not! greatest hits cds are for non fans kinda. casual stuff.
im surprised people are saying a farewell tune. . lots of bands have greatest hit releases (record company cash outs) and keep making albums. that isnt anything new in many years. i dont expect a new apc album but the GH cd doesnt mean its over.
It doesn’t mean it’s over, but it sure does look that way, unfortunately…
No point making assumptions that anything is over until the band says so.
ya, totally hellboy! it does look like its more over then not but i dont think that cause of a greatest hits cd. just cause apc has done much in forever other then play little tours and play crap setlists with too much emotive tunes 🙂
I’m hoping for an EP in about 10 years. That wouldn’t be too difficult to manage i bet…
I guess I AM WRONG (RE: Most of us disliking Puscifer). I thought more of us had better sense… no, taste… whatever… than to like Puscifer that much (I’m missing something? Not for a lack of trying…) I’ve given Puscifer many a pass over to try to understand and I just don’t (of course I don’t expect everyone to feel how I do but I DO feel strongly about disliking them). Must just be me all by myself then, disliking Puscifer all alone in the world. Oh well, I can’t bring myself to settle for a band just because Maynard… Read more »
Ever think that maybe, just maybe, you’re the one with the lack of taste and musical sense? I do know where you are coming from, by the way. I don’t just immediately like something because an artist i admire created it. I may have heard of PUSCIFER because of Maynard, but that doesn’t mean i just blindly became a fan in spite of that fact. I didn’t care for PUSCIFER at first; it took me quite a while before i warmed up to it, but now i legitimately love it and can’t wait to hear new music and see how… Read more »

Nope… there is no “MAYBE JUST MAYBE I HAVE A LACK OF TASTE AND MUSICAL SENSE”. I have a great sense of music consdering the fact that it’s what I thrive on day in day out. My taste is on par with what I believe to be superb so… NO… Overruled. I’m not saying people that like Puscifer have a lack of any musical taste or sense so don’t take offense. I’m just saying I don’t like it and from the commentary that I see in forums and on sites like youtube… I see a lot of… “OMG MAYNARD IS… Read more »
personally i dont care for Puscifer. have no desire to see it live etc etc. i wouldnt mind trying his wine even though i dont like wine much. but other then that id rather have Tool before anything.
“but other then that id rather have Tool before anything.”
I don’t think there are many people here who would disagree with that.
I think everyone will agree that we all can’t wait to hate the next tool album!
WORD
haha, ya, will see what happens wont we.
it will be nice to hear new tool after 7/going on 8 years for new material! 5 years became the norm inbetween albums for a bit their so this time its a bit more of a stretch. i wonder how much more new tool will see in our lives ? Dannys 52. can drummers keep doing what he does when their 60 ? i dont see why not kinda but i donno
Neil Peart’s still going strong. He’s 61.
I imagine it all depends on how well he takes care of himself.
