Adam has posted another photo with the tag #SmokeOnTheHorizon this time a shot of all four members of Tool in the newly refurbished Loft. Presumably they’re listing to some material for the new album, and Maynard is either starting his lyrical process, or is listening to the progress so far.
It’s hard to get too excited considering all the delays we’ve had, but it finally looks as though we have some solid progress in the songwriting department. Who knows, maybe they’ll even hit the studio before the year is out?

This is awesome news. This is my opinion about the progress… These guys are further along in the process of the album than they lead on to be. They are in the studio ALL TOGETHER for a reason. I really believe we are in for a release in Q1 of 2015…just my opinion.
perhaps, i mean, maynie-poo doesn’t have to be there in person just to listen to their new jams. could he have brought some demos of vocal ideas for them to discuss?
I think it’s highly unlikely we’ll be seeing a new Tool album before Q2 of 2015. Recording for Tool usually takes like close to 6 months I believe (could be wrong about that). Nothing we’ve seen so far has suggested that they would be that far along. I wouldn’t be annoyed at all if they came out with an album next week. It’d be quite the shock and unexpected treat. If you believe everything they say then you’re a fool because they’ve lied through their teeth several times on past albums and that should be no shock to you. It’s not a dick move, this is how you effectively prevent shit from leaking… play it close to the chest. First of all, I’m pretty sure the lies surrounding the previous albums didn’t come while the band members were talking about and seemingly trying to be more open with their fans. Lying to people while telling them you’re trying to be more open with them is kind of a dick move in my opinion. Especially when those same people have been waiting nearly a decade for you to release an album. That is an analog recording console… that’s serious business right there. I can’t imagine they are using analog to record just “practice/writing sessions”. Digital would be so much easier…

they could easily record their own album. i’d rather they didn’t….it can be a great help to have a perspective outside the band to reel them in when necessary.
either way, all of them physically in the loft has to be a good sign. the album will still probably be another year away, or slightly less.
i have to admit that this got me hopeful for the new album. first time in a long time.

I hope that this is something concrete. If this is what we hope it is then the album will most likely come out in Spring. Hopefully they follow their pattern and release something this Christmas. I’m still hoping that Problem 8 surfaces in some form.
That’s a lot of “hoping”… haha… man, it’s getting pathetic.
I think what matters is that the band is working together to create new music. If it comes today great if it’s in 10 years it’s ok too, there are alot of other good musicians to follow. I’m glad they are still together and not splitted up like APC or SOAD. With SOAD it’s a mess since you don’t really know if they would even work together again, in TOOL we can say things are moving,,, slowly but moving. 🙂
It was cool to see maynard post “prove it” under Adam’s first post. Since this is the first thing we’ve seen with maynard, guessing he’s just checking it out. 3 months for maynard to do his part, 6 months to record the album, album drops before Fall/Winter 2015 🙂 again, just dumb/fun speculation
