It’s a bit of a strange topic for an interview, but Rolling Stone spoke with Adam Jones recently about his love for Wrestling, and we get a very minor hint towards the new Tool album:
Will you be attending WrestleMania 32 next month?
Unfortunately, no – because it’s going to be epic. There’s going to be, like, 100,000 people there – the biggest sports entertainment crowd ever. You would be crazy not to watch it. If I didn’t have my kid and my family, I would be there. Plus, we’re writing a record, so we’ve gotta get that done, too.
Good to hear him making the new record a priority.
Also, don’t get too excited over recent news that Chris Pitman is tracking with Tool – I’m reasonably confident that this is a seperate project Danny is contributing to. I expect when Tool do hit the studio, it will be quite obvious what they are up to…
I don’t get it… Wrestling I mean. Sure if it was a childhood obsession I guess. But we are talking about the moronic skullbashing, soap opera drama, completely staged, entirely unconvincing and idiotic variety of wrestling right?
It’s uhh slightly different thematically than the general theme and style of Tool’s music. I find it surprising that Adam would still be so taken by it. Publicly proposing at such an event when you are normally so camera shy I find odd too. Odd guy I guess XD
It’s campy-as-hell, over-the-top cheese drama. It’s not my thing, but I get the appeal. It’s kind of the same-but-opposite idea as a drag show, and when people are into drag shows, they fucking love drag shows.
Yeah… I get the “appeal” .. I guess. Just surprises me that it’s Adam’s appeal – relative to his seemingly deeply introspective artistry. Personal interests of a musician are utterly irrelevant when it comes to listening to their slaying riffs and guitar soundscape wizardry anyway 🙂
Yeah sure, it’s fake and personally, I’m not into it. However, I understand the appeal; I mean, at least these guys perform some impressive stunts.
Nobody gives a shit about your love for WWE, can’t believe an article like this gets published with a throwaway line at the end ‘Plus, we are writing a record soon’. Talk about the album, throw a riff or two our way ffs. Throw a fan a bone. Love how these guys are uber secretive about album progress but feel the need to shout from the roof tops about inane shit like spandex wearing steroid taking retard gymnasts. FML
I doubt very much they “feel the need to shout from the roof tops about inane shit” such as wrestling. RS wanted an interview, and Adam obliged. I don’t think there’s more to it than that.
It would be no different to an interview with maynard talking about puscifer/music in a WWE magazine #context. OGT fans are frustrated and for good reason. I guess in these days of torrenting most bands can’t be farked and just tour for their income. Still in the 90’s we had fresh, exciting, original music from tool every 4-5 years. I’m passed the point of being angry. More so sad at the lack of progress and output by the band since 10,000 days.
i could care less how long the new one takes. if we get another full length tool album at all, that will fill my life with more inspiration. i’m still quite able to draw huge amounts of energy from the last three any time i listen. god damn self entitled whinging fans, seriously 😛
*pulls out soap box*
I think you mean that you *couldn’t care less.
Sorry. Uber pet peeve of mine. When people mistakenly say that they “could care less” about something then they are explicitly implying that they either:
1. Actually DO care
Or
2. Care about the topic more than other topics thus contradicting the point they are trying to make about how little they actually do care about said topic.
Amazing to me that this little colloquialism somehow manages to proliferate itself so much in the English language.
*moves soap box back into (temporary) storage*
@ out…
Stinkfist.
Irregardless…
Haha! Thats up there with ‘gotten’, ‘math’ and ‘fanny’
