Tool rumours for Voodoo and Riotfests

A rumour today, by an allegedly good source suggests that Tool are locked in for the Voodoo Festival in New Orleans, and the Riotfest in Chicago and Denver. I have no insight into how good this rumour might be, and the dates of the festival are likely within the wine harvest, so treat them with a good dose of salt for now…

Sooooo, this is right in the middle of maynard’s harvest… ? And they’re gonna tour?

I kinda hope this isn’t true. Because if after 7 years of being away from Chicago, they come back to only do another festival show, I probably won’t be going. The only enjoyable part about going to Lolla in 09 was Tool. But at least with Lolla, that was in the loop with the city skyline practically wrapped around you. Fuckin, Humboldt Park? for +$300 to bring the wife? I don’t think so.

It’s gonna be in Douglas Park this year, actually. But yeah it does seem a bit improbable that they’ll do these shows unless they’re just one-offs and not part of a larger tour. Even so, that’s a gamble to throw down that kind of cash for what will likely be a disappointing lineup.

Douglas Park is even worse, no thanks.

i dunno. not having to drive or fly for a fucking change will be really nice. i’ll be really excited if this is true! of course i’d prefer a normal show over a fest, but with tool i’ll take what i can get and will keep coming back for more until my money runs out.

They’ll keep coming back until your money runs out. Summers here,- time to fuel their cash cow. New music isn’t really all that profitable anymore, so they don’t care about that.

Danny was at Riot Fest last year when he played his first shows with Primus. I wonder if he enjoyed himself so much he convinced the guys in Tool to agree to play. I was lucky enough to attend the after show at Concord Music Hall. Imagine if Tool decides to do an after show…

Response to smithersSOCAL. Hey, thank you very much. You’re right on target. There was at least one occasion where Maynard came onstage at a Tool show (a festival I think) and ‘baad’ like a sheep at the audience. He also says “Go back to sleep” It has also been Maynard for years criticizing and expressing disgust and frustration at his fellow bandmates for not finishing the album. I’ve never commented on any site about anything. I’ve been coming to Fourtheye for years because it seems like the most direct way to credible information in regards to the 5th Tool album.… Read more »

That one occasion where Maynard “baa’d like a sheep at the audience”, was a show at the Scientology celebrity centre in LA, which the band didn’t know was connected to that church until they arrived at the show. Just so you know.

Response to double poster: It wasn’t worth the initial posting. Much less the 2nd. No one claims a bands fifth album makes or breaks a career and it’s ludicrous to claim someone or something has squandered their talent or a historic level when their story is still being written. Sure, they may never put out new music OR they may put out 1-3 more epic recordings that defy our expectorations. Ether way your comments are premature at best and you-are-the-reason-MJK-rails-against-the-band’s-“fans” at worst. As much as I love the fuck out of RATM, I thank god everyday that my favorite band… Read more »

I’ll do one last post before I drop it for good. In answer to your question; Pearl Jam, Jane’s Addiction and Smashing Pumpkins to name but three. Billy Corgans output is admirable. In addition to 10 Smashing Pumkins albums, he’s done a solo album and another band titled Zwan. There are many others. There are also many other artists dating back to the 60s and 70s who have had a good amount of output. The others have had the decency to actually break up (excepting OD’s and whatnot) RATM”s a great example. They released four albums and broke up, came… Read more »

None of those bands you mentioned hasn’t broken up in some form or fashion or changed members up on occasion. Granted Paul left in the mid-90s just before AEnima, but I stand by my comment and appreciate you backing it up, albeit inadvertently.

And I’m not sure what/how side projects got brought into the mix but if you are counting those then you forgot to mention…oh lord. It’s not even worth it.

I fell for the ole troll bait (again).

Take a look again,- when I used the example of solo albums and side projects in which the artist is the creator of the music. Adam is the creator in Tool, he even said so himself. (“My band, my concept”) His company is Billy Corgan, Tom Morello, Jerry Cantrell, Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro and so on.

At least Tool have kept the quality tho. Every band you mention above and solo work is really shit compared to what they did 20+ years ago (except Soundgarden – their last one was pretty good). I imagine Adam is all too aware of this…

Definitely last. Hilarious. Knew that was coming. Considered being preemptive and including it in the original post. Anyone who’s not Tool are shit. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Rush, Alice In Chains, every metal band, every classic rock band, every progressive rock band,- all shit. I’m not the ‘fan’ Maynard thinks is pathetic. He specifically talks about fans who put meaning to things that have none (‘Holy Gift’ give me a break) and speculate about his three band mates ‘progress’when he thinks they’re pathetic because their isn’t any. He also rails against ‘sheep’, a docile herd animal that accepts whatever… Read more »

Take it easy hellboy. Appreciate the work you put into the site even if I don’t agree with some of the viewpoints. I would be interested in your opinion of Cog’s ‘Sharing Space’ It was produced by Sylvia Massey, as was the preceding ‘ The New Normal’, producer of Tools Undertow.

I never post but I’m about to go nuts. Mano whatever the fuck your name is…you’re a moron. If you’re so Anti Tool then fuck off. They owe you absolutely nothing. If they spend the next 3 years making music and then scratch it and go on vacation they have that right. Every single song they’ve put out has been quality which is way more than I can say about 90% of the bands out there. If they put out new music anytime in my lifetime i will be lucky and devour it. If not, oh well. I have 4… Read more »

I’ll admit it. Tool have worn me down… through their incessant rehashing of set-lists, 4-chord intermissions, and random crypticisms (sic). Like many of you, I was OGT back in ’93 (sorry, had to), but now just feel like it always another OGT these guys… “One-more Gratuitous Tour”. I acknowledge that it’s their ART, not mine, and their right to craft as painstakingly as they like. But as die-hard as I might be, I simply don’t need 17 copies of the same painting. Still my favorite band, but I won’t be seeing any more Tool shows until they either release some… Read more »

i’m sorry the reruns have lost their fire and i only hope i don’t start feeling that way myself any time soon (although as an OGT from back in ’95, maybe i’m two years away, if we follow your math?).

i love how you put your sentiments though. totally dig it. hope they play the backyard birthday soon.

I think every fan that comments here has a little more than a casual interest in the band, so I’m pretty sure everyone here would love an entirely new set list. I don’t think there are any fans that are thinking YES! I hope that they will play the same core songs they always do! It is what it is.

Exciting news.

Every Tool album so far is a god damned masterpiece beginning to end. How many bands with 4 or more albums can you say that about? Whatever they are doing, it is working. Call me crazy but I am happy there is a band out there that doesn’t sacrifice quality for quantity.

If Tool decides to release a 5th album, I feel like I’ll be the only one who’d say “thanks!” instead of “its about time!”

Ugh, I still have yet to figure out why people comment on a bands fan site with animosity for said band. Kind of a dick thing to do. But I digress….

The VooDoo Music and Arts Festival is halloween weekend in New Orleans. With them playing Monster Mash last year this could be a possibility?

Riotfest lineup was just released today. No TOOL. It’s got some pretty good acts though and is worth taking a look at. The Misfits reunion will probably be a big seller to a lot of people.
