Tool September 2016 Newsletter

The Tool newsletter for September 2016 is out now (sorry for the delay getting it up here but I’ve been out of town) and it doesn’t really contain any actual Tool news, just some reflection on the energy radiated by some Tool fans.

For those who are desperate for anything to cling their hopes on, here’s Danny on the Seth Meyers show confirming “it’s real”:

Here’s my message for the many Tool fans who read this site:

Hey Hellboy- sorry, off topic. I can’t log into the forums (Krazy_blah) and it doesn’t recognize my email address either to reset password? Do I need to email you or something for this?…

I don’t know how to feel about this. I think, for a band who doesn’t cater to fans desires or expectations at all, for them to say the negative vibes are hurting them is kind of bullshit. Like, do something/anything and we will stop talking about what the fucks taking so long. We’ve been patient. All of a sudden they give a shit?

That newsletter was pretty condescending. It’s not about waiting for an album as much as it is the complete lack of communication (schism) from the band, or lack of multiple projects that were spoken of but never came to be No new website when it was said it was coming…an opiate anniversary album, but no undertow, or aenima for that matter. No 10k days on vinyl… It’s not the 90’s, being shrouded in secrecy is not cool or interesting. The best thing from Adam has to be leaked by a fan, which was information gated behind a $500 VIP ticket… Read more »

There’s now a response regarding the misinterpreted September Newsletter.

Turn that frown upside down Drury!

Exactly… Newsletter was pretty much written to provoke Drury’s exact reaction. I thought it was hilariously INTENTIONALLY condescending… It’s hilarious that people still think a group of musicians – who just like writing tunes – owe them something.

I figured they were just trolling. I read the story on another site and went “meh..”

also. Tool used to write “tunes” now they just write excuses.

I cant wait till this story hits blabbermouth…. the metal community at large has some of the harshest opinions of tool that put all us tool army cry babies to shame.

Agreed 100%. “The negativity is reaching us and hindering our progress, wah wah.” Since when do you care about what your fans think? All the headlines were “Tool asking fans for positive vibes”. Fucking lame. Such a complete 180 from the tool I know. Use the negativity, use the lawsuit, use it all and create something brutal and raw. Turn it into art that blows us away. Or whine about it which is what this “newsletter” is about. Blair sucks man. So sick of the hidden meanings, no real news and esoteric bullshit. It’s like he purposely talks/writes like that… Read more »

On the bright side Tool has been playing “Descending” at concerts. To me that is similar to the Melvins/Tool release of Divorced just before Lateralus was released. Everything is always “just around the corner”. It’s best just to not think of it and be surprised when it finally comes. The newsletter told us Tool had nearly an entire album’s worth of recordings just months after 10K Days was released. Just sit back and listen to some Gojira or Mastodon for now.

Too bad mastodon sucks lately. Another band I love that the quality of content has diminished. But at least they have “content”.

Haha yeah, this! coming from the guy that said earlier in this post that “tool fans have been patient” you lost ALL credibility! Less content would be a good thing.

hahahaha look at all the whiny whinging negative sooks come out crying. wah wah now Tool (Blair) has offended me for calling me out on what I am – A whining negative shit. So it’s ok for you guys to constantly rubbish them but as soon as they say something negative about you it’s all wah wah poor me you hurt my feelings with your condescending words. For people who no longer like Tool anymore, or are sick of them or whatever your dumb arse excuses are, you all sure devote a lot of time and energy on fan sites… Read more »

No one is offended or hurt. Just questioning why they all of a sudden give a shit about what their fans think. Up until now it’s been the exact opposite.

Miss the point much? This “negative shit” will be attending a Tool concert in just a couple weeks and love the shit out of it. I merely was calling out blairs bullshit and the bands inconsistency with their news and how the “mysterious” approach is trash. They have said things are coming but they never do. I guess some people are Ok with being lied to over and over and call it “artistic”. They are my favorite band and I’ll be there day one for new music. Doesn’t mean I can’t have an opinion or reaction to the bands lame… Read more »

it’s so funny that a newsletter about the downside of negativity resulted in the same shit that’s been complained about for years now. i’m generally pretty annoyed at blair’s intentionally obscure newsletters, but his psychoanalysis in this one was spot on – if you didn’t love the shit out out of this band, you wouldn’t be jumping in with a comment the second any inkling of news hits the shelves. you’d’ve left by now. the bottom line is that we all know that tool is the greatest band of all time. they will produce what they produce when they produce… Read more »

It’s easy to dismiss criticism as “negativity” and throw it out as not legitimate. A generation of brats that never get disciplined or criticized will end up actually being “negative” for society. Having Blair attempt to link Internet negativity to hindering the artistic process is INSANE and offensive to the fan base. If us expressing our frustration on this lovely forum helps with the wait for a new album, who are you are anyone to judge it as useless and not of value just because it is perceived to be negative? I’m older and grew up in a time where… Read more »

You are dead on man. If in 2006 someone would’ve told me that Faith no more AND Failure would reunite, tour and record awesome new albums before any real news about the next tool album, I’d have called you crazy and bet every penny I had against it. Crazy. I bet we get another new album from both before tool. I love tool, I do. Even if the songwriting has gotten a little lazy IMO. But I/we can have an opinion and be critical without it being considered negativity and holding up the bands progress. Aren’t we all critical, especially… Read more »

Drury is so on-point. Well written comments summing up the sentiment a lot of us feel. All this ongoing mystery and band members doing interviews but ‘dont dare mention a new album”. Pathetic, the reason you are being interviewed is because you wrote some sweet music and the world wants to know whats next. So many of us would be sending out positive vibes if they treated the fan base with less disdain and threw us a fricking bone. ‘Guess what kids album due ……..’ Show us some artwork, some video teasers, anything. These guys are amazing musicians but couldn’t… Read more »

Is it possible they are conjuring up an excuse to not do an album? “Oh since a large amount of our fan base seems to have a negative attitude we’re just not going to release an album as punishment.” I mean, it’s probably unlikely that this is the case but I wouldn’t rule anything out just yet. Tit for Tat…? Immature approach for sure. It sounds like there’s some sort of punishment for these individuals that’s being lined up but WTF could that be? There’s no way they could punish only the people that are “being negative”. Lastly, I agree… Read more »

It’s not just the lack of an album that draws the negativity, it is all the false statements and teasing over the last 10 years. Live DVD mentioned over 10 years ago I believe = never happened Fixing the Toolarmy website mentioned probably around 5 years ago = never happened Telling us the lawsuits are why there is no new album – that was July 2014 I believe. Obvious BS since that is now over 2 years ago. The curveball = nothing. And the teasing about a possible unreleased track. Not once, but over and over again. Kind of a… Read more »

Don’t forget about the “golden ticket” that the Opiate re-release had….did anyone ever figure out what they got with that?

It reminds me of the attitude bands get when they completely lose touch.

Metallica attacking fans for sharing their music online…you know, stuff like that.

At least Pink Floyd made an album out of the “wall” between artist and fans of art.

Can we get a little Nebraska mention in the house? “This wasn’t the work of Pleidians from Alcyon angry about being deprived of vital vortex energy by tourists from Nebraska.” <–Whoop there it is. –^ You guys, Blair's right. About the cairns. About the negativity. Everything. And so I'm taking a new approach. I really love Tool and honestly believe in them with all my heart. As someone pointed out, I think most of us do, and that's why we're here. So I ask myself, What would be the best set of circumstances for the delivery of the new album?… Read more »

What website does Blair mean in his latest post, Ultimate-Guitar?

In his position I’d be very careful to judge over the content of any website…

Hellboi,
Off topic question…
When threads like this get lots of posts/replies, the only solution I have is to scroll down from the top, looking for the most recent dates of posts/responses.
It becomes tedious.
Is there a function that can be added that, on returning to the thread that I have already viewed (for example 24hours ago) there can be a notification that displays something like ‘New Comments’, and if I click that button it will do something like let me click from each new response/post in chronological order?
Just asking.
