The Tool 2017 Newsletter for January is out, and it doesn’t say much except to confirm a few things we already know. There is some vague promise of further news to come, but anyone’s guess as to what this is.

I especially don’t like to waste water here in the desert, but allow me to pour a tall cold glass of it over the on-line rumors that DANNY (“the mysterious buyer”) recently purchased a new house with vineyards so that he could become a wine-maker. The TRUTH is that he bought a house that just happened to come with a MICRO-VINEYARD. Therefore, DON’T expect him to be releasing bottles of “MONAS HIEROGLYPHICA” anytime soon. Instead, he will be working on new Tool material at the loft, and performing on February 4th with VOLTO! at… (No)… THE WHISKEY on the Sunset Strip. In other news, for those of you who only read the ‘newsletters’, TOOL will be playing a couple of festivals in MAY – one being “THE GOVERNOR’S BALL in NYC, with the other being “BOSTON CALLING.” In anticipation of your next question, these are the only Tool shows that I am currently aware of. I have also listed in the NEWS POSTS a number of APC shows in May. Now, in case you’re wondering why the January 17th newsletter is so short (or celebrating the fact), until I get a better grasp on certain things that have happened to me recently, this will have to do. In the meantime, look for an UPDATE explaining this in the archived SEPTEMBER 2016 newsletter on January 20th. Hopefully, that is…

Nothing will be revealed on April 21, 2017. Blair will just say that the time was not right yet (the counter guy makes the same error, bla bla) and we have to wait for 3 more months… etc etc etc.
I agree, and once again just more cryptic nonsense. If the Opiate video (or whatever may be scheduled) will be released on April 20, just freakin’ say so. And if it is not definite, just say “as of now the Opiate video is scheduled to premiere on 4/20 but that could change.”
The delay by the band is annoying but the “news” from the official news source is enraging. This band does all it can to frustrate their fans. Perhaps they should rename themselves Blue Balls. Maybe that’s what’ll happen in April.
We’ve been down this road before but this time we KNOW they have been working on the album, they have some dates already lined up and April 21st is a Friday which is the day new music drops.
I think this could be it. And I’m actually saying that with a straight face.

They were continuing to write for the album as of just a few weeks ago, so April is way too soon. Maybe they could finish the writing process by then, or possibly enter the studio sometime in April (less likely). Late 2017 would probably be the very earliest the album could be released. 2018 is a more likely scenario.
Suppose I could be wrong, though – with no inside sources or whatever.
I think there’s too much on in 2017 for it to pan out – Puscifer in Oz at the moment, APC touring for a few months, then Tool likely to do a few more shows. Add a wine harvest to that and I don’t see them being ready to record until October at best.
You guys are almost assuredly right but for some reason I can’t shake the feeling that there’s something to this. Of course if there was something to it then that would mean that they’ve already laid down the tracks (surely word would have leaked out but maybe not if they decked out the loft with everything they needed) and moved into post-production (allowing current travel/tour schedules to be a moot point).
