Most of us already knew that a San Bernadino show was coming, but Tool have made a big announcement this morning telling us that the support acts for this gig will include both The Melvins and Primus as well as Live DJ Sets from The Crystal Method + a yet to be announced guest.
Sounds like a great event – this time around there doesn’t appear to be a VIP session, or at least they haven’t announced one.
We are very excited to announce the unparalleled sonic and visual experience of TOOL LIVE IN CONCERT in the high-spirited setting of the GLEN HELEN AMPHITHEATER in SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA on JUNE 24, 2017.
Other bands on the bill for this monumental event in the Inland Empire include PRIMUS, the MELVINS, and the electronic spectacle of LIVE DJ SETS from THE CRYSTAL METHOD.
For the occasion, the band will also have an additional SPECIAL GUEST to be announced soon. Quite simply, fans of TOOL will not want to miss this SUMMER HAPPENING featuring critically acclaimed bands (and friends) on a stage where anything can happen.
June 24 – San Bernardino, CA @ Glen Helen Amphitheater
Tickets go ON-SALE on THURSDAY, APRIL 13 at 10am PDT.
Sounds a hell of a lot like a record release party…
Sounds like a big event, perhaps a celebration. Not so sure about record release party though.
Hmmm, the last paragraph intrigues me:
For the occasion, the band will also have an additional SPECIAL GUEST to be announced soon. Quite simply, fans of TOOL will not want to miss this SUMMER HAPPENING featuring critically acclaimed bands (and friends) on a stage where anything can happen.
Where anything can happen? And what exactly would they be celebrating? I’d love for the ‘special guest’ to be new music.
Then again, the special guest being Queens of the Stone Age would also be cool.
I’d wouldn’t expect someone as big as QOTSA. Someone like Failure perhaps would be my thought, or ever Puscifer.
I very much doubt the ‘special guest’ would be new music!
Faith no more. Jello Biafra? i hate a lot (its deserved). but this show actually surprised me. i didn’t know they had it in them.
Queens are bigger than tool at this stage. and that album is done.. and aren’t they in your area in June? curious.
QOTSA are in Oz in June, but it’s a pretty short tour which is skipping my town 🙁
QOTSA is not bigger than Tool. They’ve never headlined an arena tour. Don’t get me wrong, I love’em but I don’t see that.
Alice in Chains?
Actually, something like Puscifer or A Perfect Circle makes sense here. Queens of the Stone Age are playing a festival in Canada on the Thurday, June 22 and then have shows in mid July so they could squeeze in here. I only mentioned them because it’s east of LA and the whole ‘desert rock’ thing in that area.
IF (big if here) the new album is done, new “single” could be released online and to radio stations at the start of this tour. New single could be performed on this tour. Maybe for Gov Ball show they perform/release another new song. Then for San Bernadino show they have a new album release celebration, performing several more new songs and selling the album directly to fans at the event, before public onsale the following Tuesday. It would be a monumental event. I can dream, right?
You’re dream would be much more likely to come true if new music was actually still released on Tuesdays instead of Fridays.
@ out…
Stinkfist
I don’t see anything too special going on here. I am surprised how many shows they have announced; I thought they would just wait…
If they do release something new at one of these shows, that would be a massive surprise to me, but I just highly (extremely) doubt it.
I guess we’ll see when the time comes.
I’ve always kinda felt that maybe it’s true that they have more material done than we think, I just doubt it based off of Maynard’s comments.
Like I said, we’ll see when the time comes.
Whatever happens with this tour, and before Tool calls it quits, we need to hear them cover some Pink Floyd … “one of these days” perhaps? No vox needed, MJK.
And, what’s up with the superlatives … get over yourselves enlightened ones…
“unparalleled sonic and visual experience”
“featuring critically acclaimed bands”
I think the curve ball is hitting everyone with an album out of nowhere.
Trent has already done it and a lot of other bands are probably going to follow suit.
Reduces risk of a leaked album and I’ll have to admit, it’s a hell of a great surprise.
We’ll see… nobody really knows. What if this show is an album release party and anybody that attends gets a free copy limited edition or something of that nature.
AIC as mentioned above would be tight. I personally would want to see Lesser Key. But, if I was going to bet on it I would say Aloke Dutta.
yeah anything involving Paul would be a nice touch
My dream “special guest” would by Kyuss reunion. Tool could unearth their “Demon Cleaner” cover.
Can I just say I’m at the chicago Blackhawks playoff game right now. So far I’ve heard the pot and vicarious played. My least favorite album. But…….man they fucking jam in a huge setting and I bet they sound better live. Go see tool if you haven’t.
That is all.
Its gonna be Kyuss.
Bought two tickets. Now the easy part – need to sort the traveling details from Lithuania…
^like
This lineup is awesome, but lol at the people thinking they’re gonna debut new music or announce anything.
My money’s on Joan Baez
Cargo cult.
I would so much love it if the show was a record release party or even just the unveiling of a new single. However, you know, it’s Tool so that’s not gonna happen. It’ll be an awesome show but there will be nothing new and the special guest will be the only surprise, which most likely won’t even be that great. I would keep my expectations low! I’m heading to the Hamilton show and I can’t wait.
What happened to “we aren’t touring until the album is done” and all that jazz? Or am I crazy thinking I heard Danny say that years ago? They must be out of money.
Because the album is done 😉
^Lol… Yea, Tool is out of money LOL!
Ok, guys,
please excuse my naive question, but THIS is not the infamous “curveball”, is it?
And I also hope it’s not the spectacular whatever that as supposed to be presented on April 21st?
Thank you Blair, thank you so much.
I’m with the other few I’ve seen post it, I think they stealth release at this show and also announce they’re catalog streaming or atleast a single from new album
Anyone expecting a new album at the June show is building themselves up for disappointment. 420 is over so it’s time to put down the bong…
Lol @ all the ppl on here who were speculating that something was going to happen on April 21.
SEE! NOTHING EVER HAPPENS!
gutted. no newsletter from Blair yet either…
The album, announcement of the album , or single from the album is the curveball and will be released at the June show , watch
Maybe we’ll get a screening of the Opiate video – I think Adam suggested that was pretty much done at the last VIP sessions.
Lol. Ok, now we move the bar from an April 21 surprise to the June show.
Special Guest: Henry Rollins
They’ll anounce/do nothing of significance. April 2018 (and 2019), you’ll be having the same discussions when they drag the whole tired, stale old thing out for another money grubbing, perfunctory tour with an ever diminishing set list from 3 albums.
Extra Special Guest: Tori Amos
RATM?
Something tells me the Curveball is that the Opiate video is just a fasade and that it is actualy the videoclip for a new track from the new album…
