So they actually haven’t started recording but are in pre-production mode, whatever that entails.
pre production usually means getting everything organized in terms of labelling, sounding right, trying out a bunch of technical details before the real recording takes place. it’s like recording dirty “demo” versions of all songs. should be done within 2-3 days
Yep, getting all the gear set up in the space, choosing microphones & mic techniques, discussing the direction or feel they want to get from the album and then they will record some scratch tracks for guitar and bass (direct into the console) so Danny has something to go off of when he records his parts. This process should be a few days at most and then Danny will hop in the drivers seat to lay his parts down. We’re not looking super far into the future here now. Yea – I really liked the production on Ænima and Lateralus. Not that 10,000 Days was bad but I thought the previous 2 albums sounded better. Bottrill did a better job of mixing the drums maybe? Not educated enough on the topic to speak on it, but I know what my ears tell me.
Should we assume that he’s only producing (recording and such) or also handling the mixing?
