The album that no one asked for now comes with a tour no one asked for.

First tour date is in my home town. And I haven’t even bought a ticket. I love APC. The new album isn’t bad. It just sounds a bit too much like eMotive and it’s too political. APC was better when it seemed more sexual, dark, dismal, hostile and enchanting.

I’m with you gents. I liked Mer De Noms and Thirteenth Step, having said that I haven’t even listened to Eat The Elephant all the way through yet.

Not sure the band aged all that well. IMHO

Its as good an album as any that have been released in the past few years and any chance to see MJK in action is worth it

Cant wait to see APC at Voodoo fest.

I think the new album has several legit tracks and it’s damn sure better than eMotive (by a mile). Not sure where all the “it’s too political” comments are coming from as 1 – it’s not THAT political and 2 – this isn’t the first, nor the last, time a band/album featuring MJK has some political bent to it.

That’s kind of a misrepresention most people’s distaste with ETE. It’s a preachy, dull and forgettable album in almost every sense for many, myself included. I found it to be a major disappointment. There isn’t a single song on that album that I truly enjoy and want to listen to again. Whereas both MDN and 13th step, I enjoyed every song off those albums and there are a handful from both that still move me to this day. I know I’m not alone on that. But I also know, that for whatever reason, some people like it. I probably won’t… Read more »

NO WAY MAN! You just have to listen to Eat The Elephant 500 more times and it will grow on you! They swear! Just like Deftones “Gore”… great album after the 500th listen (supposedly)….

I’m still waiting for it to set in but people swear up and down that I just didn’t listen to either of these albums enough… Maybe… someday…

Nah in all honestly I always give albums more than a couple listens. I’m just jabbing at the people that tell me I need to listen to it more before I decide I don’t like it. Seriously I’ve listened to Gore and Eat the Elephant probably 20+ times each and still don’t like either of them. Sure, there are MOMENTS on those albums but overall they just seemed slapped together. That’s just me. I get that other people like it and that’s fine too. There’s a ton of other stuff out there that people could be listening to instead that… Read more »

Liking good music sometimes means you, the listener, has to adapt to it or put in some work. You also have to actually listen to it more then one passing time. I didn’t like it AT all at first, but as I understood it more and heard more, I grew to really like it and now I consider it just as good as anything else they’ve done (and I dislike emotive)

The most important thing to take away from this is that Maynard is in LA, at least since the 10th October (probably before), and the tour doesn’t start in proper until 20th October. Plenty of time to record Tool vocals!

I’m definitely agree that MdN and 13th Step are much better albums but ETE is much better than no APC album at all and I think the main reason we even have it to debate over is b/c MJK knew he had another year to kill due to “missed deadlines” if you catch my drift.

Side note: just got done reading “In Cold Blood” and learned that the 13th Step is the top step leading up to the hangman’s gallows. Not saying there is any correlation just found it (and the book) interesting.

My theory on how it may have played out: I think Billy is always working on APC stuff and had enough arrangements put together for an album and was just waiting for an opportunity to work with MJK to make it happen. When MJK realized that there wasn’t enough progress from the boys to move forward in 2018 it opened up his workaholic calendar and presented an opportunity for APC to do their thing. MJK mentioned somewhere (tweet?) about the reason for deadlines and it appeared to me to be a shot at the band for dragging their feet a… Read more »

Saw APC show last night. It was an excellent show, 3 Libras remix was very interesting. Delicious at the end was cool. I’m slightly worried though, the venue was very empty. Upper bowl was completely empty. I moved from 14th row to 1st row in Lower bowl. Saturation? (just saw them last year) Or, contempt for lack of new Tool material? Perhaps a mix of both? Or, maybe they need better opening acts? Maynard said something that didn’t sit well with me. I wasn’t sure why, this morning it occurred to me. He said something like: “it’s strange world we… Read more »

They did indeed play it for the first time since 2011 apparently. They did not however play The Outsider which is the #1 song I want to hear at Voodoo this weekend.
