There is no further news at this point, however it would be a reasonable assumption to make that the new album would likely be released on or around that time.
I guarantee the album will be out by May.
How can you guarantee that? For them to go on a tour does seem to suggest they expect the album to be done or at least nearly ready for release…but it could be after as well.
May release. 17.05.19 is my pick.
Yeah I agree.
It’s reasonable to think that the band believes their work in the studio will be completed before this tour. Anything beyond that is very uncertain.
I’m not ruling out an album release by May, I just don’t think this tour provides any such confirmation.
Assuming Maynard has recorded his vocals (which we have no confirmation of yet) I think it’s a safe bet we’ll see a Q2 2019 release. If he hasn’t recorded yet, then I suspect it’s unlikely he’ll do so until January, which might push back the release a little.
Interesting point is that none of the festivals appear to be touting a new album will be released by then, which suggests to me that Tool are probably not sure it will be either.
I’m thinking this. Perfect Circle wraps up Dec 19. Then all tool members do the Xmas new years thing. Maybe a Mid-to late January reconvene. Generally you need 3 months after completing an album for artwork, pressing, marketing etc etc to be done. Which gives them till end of February to complete recording mixing etc With Adam working on guitar parts all the way through I think they will have mostly finished. Their last albums don’t take that long to record. Just to write. I would bet my hat that they want to release the album before the first show. They… Read more »
Couldn’t agree more.
@ out…

At first I thought this was a joke.
This is awesome. They haven’t touched Europe since 2007. I’m assuming that they believe the album will be out by then.
I hope MJK has already recorded his parts.
Only time will tell.
Just hope they slot some more UK dates in. Not interested in anyone else at Download.
Good luck with that – going by the schedule I expect it’s unlikely they will do another show in the UK, but I wouldn’t rule it out either.
More bands to be added to the lineup, so hopefully something will take your fancy.
To be fair Opeth have some good songs. I recall Tool played European festival dates in the summer of 2006 then did their own shows later in the year. I expect more dates will be added.
All my life I’ve been waiting for the year 2020 … now I know why.
The Winter Olympics in South Korea?
At long last a dream comes true! It will be 12 years waiting for a concert and I have my ticket now for the Prague show.
I’m glad you get to see -T-O-O-L- atakx
That’s a really strange mix of bands. I love most of them though. Die Antwoord and Opeth on the same ticket with Def Leppard. Weird. But, I’d be crazy happy to see those bands in one day.
Gonna get my Berlin tickets tomorrow, but I really hope that they’ll add some more shows in other cities.
I hate Berlin…
Alright I just bought my tickets for the Madrid Download Festival on June 30 and the Lisbon show on July 2… Hopefully they add more shows here and I’ll be able travel around etc.
Oh yeah, my gut feeling is that with TOOL doing their own solo shows here, we should expect the new album sometime in May. My sneaking suspicion is that Maynard had done vocals and Adam has finished guitars. Hope I’m right 🙂
Buying tickets has become a f….. battle.
Sold out in just a few seconds, but I got mine 🙂
^Which gig mate?
Berlin.Unfortunatly I missed the sale for Amsterdam
About time! Managed to score tickets for Berlin, Prague, Vienna and Amsterdam. CBF to pay excessive money for Download to see a shortened set list. Hopefully they will come back to the UK for Nov/Dec tour just like they did in 2006.
It’s happening! Album release imminent. I love you guys.
5-31-2019 my guess
