Danny’s guest spot on Children of Saturn

It was at short notice, but Danny was the guest on today’s Children of Saturn radio show, which I was lucky enough to hear most of today. The show has been on a break for a couple of months, but started up again this morning and should be back to normal, hopefully with some interesting guests in the coming weeks.

Danny played a range of cool tunes, and spoke about a bunch of things which may interest you guys, even though none of them are huge revelations:

  • He played us a track off the new Volto! album – which was fantastic in my opinion
  • Mentioned that Volto! are playing another show at the Baked Potato this weekend
  • Just waiting on artwork for the new Volto! album. Vinyl lovers will be happy to hear that their format of choice should be available.
  • Pigmy Love Circus are having a reunion show in August.
  • On Tool – β€œMe, Adam, and Justin are banging away. Trying to get Maynard in there, but you know, no wine before its time.”
  • Bill Bruford from King Crimson recently sent him a miniature snare drum

So there you have it, it was a pretty cool show, plenty of prog rock was played and the chatroom was fun. Looking forward to tuning in again next week provided I’m not working in the office.

Rynne mentioned that a podcast of the show should become available soon, so stay tuned to their Facebook page for details on that.

Maynard on the Joe Rogan Podcast

There’s been a bunch of speculation lately that Maynard will be making an appearance on the Joe Rogan Podcast, and today via the magicks of Twitter it’s been confirmed:

maynard james keenan @puscifer is confirmed for july 27th

Should be an interesting interview. For those unfamiliar with Joe, he’s a stand up comedian who’s claim to fame (by Tool fans it seems) is that he’s a cannabis and mushrooms user.

Pigmy Love Circus gig August 4 @ the Dragonfly, LA

As hinted at on a Reddit post I was reading, Pigmy Love Circus (with Danny on drums in case you’ve forgotten!) are coming out of their drug induced coma and doing a gig in Los Angeles in August, and after a bit of searching I managed to come across this post for the gig:

Pigmy Love Circus at the Dragonfly, LA

The gig is happening at the Dragonfly in Los Angeles on Saturday the 4th of August. Support acts include Hollywood Hate, The Dimwits, Born To Drink, I, Mad Man, Gigbutt, Mark Curry, and Skulls & Bullets.

As I said it’s been a while between drinks for PLC, so get out there and see them!

Danny playing with Bubbatron and Crimson ProjeKct

A couple of Danny related items have crossed my desk over the last couple of days. Firstly it appears Danny will be playing drums with fellow Volto! member John Ziegler in his band Bubbatron. According to the post on Toolband:

On FRIDAY, JULY 6, DANNY will perform with BUBBATRON (JOHN ZIEGLER, SCOTT KINSEY & JIMMY EARL) also at the BAKED POTATO (3787 Cahuenga Blvd., West, Studio City, Ca. 91604). Here are some links for additional info on Facebook and RESERVED SEATS.

Secondly, it appears that Danny recently played with the Crimson ProjeKct both in Kansas and in LA, and a few people were lucky enough to have taken photos, in this case Rynne and Adrian Belew Power Trio member Julie Slick:

Update: Video available!

Puscifer to play Big Day Out 2013?

I was reading through the comments to the recent newsletter article this morning, and came across this little Big Day Out 2013 tour rumour from PolarBear:

While catting with a few members after the Puscifer show in Houston last week, I overhead Josh Eustis say there may be plans for Puscifer to play Big Day Out (There ya go, Aussies. Wait is almost over.), potentially followed by a string of dates. He summed it up by saying, “February. We’re starting up again in February.”

Interesting news indeed. With Tool being Big Day Out regulars it wouldn’t come as a huge surprise to see this happen. Given that current Big Day Out & Soundwave Festival rumours talk about Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Linkin Park, Blink 182 and The Offspring, it’s nice to see a band rumour being thrown around that isn’t completely shit.

Update: Looks like Puscifer aren’t on the Big Day Out lineup after all!

Tool June 2012 Newsletter released

Blair has published the June Tool 2012 Newsletter, and it’s Part 3 in the Tales from the Loft series. As with the last few it’s quite an interesting read with a few things I didn’t know about the band such as this little trivia item:

Up until this point, I hadn’t really listened to that much Tool, and was only familiar with the song “Opiate” and Undertow’s “Sober” – a song that Maynard was instrumental (no pun intended) in writing, picking up Paul’s bass at a jam session at the loft one day and playing the now famous riff for the other band members.

Head on over to Toolband and have a read!

Chet Zar & Steve Niles in TOME Kickstarter

I spotted today on Twitter Chet Zar plugging a Kickstarter project entitled TOME which is apparently come kind of comic related project. Not only is Chet involved in the project, but so is fellow Adam collaborator Steve Niles (of 30 Days of Night fame). According to the blurb this years theme is Vampires, so if comics and vampires are your thing, then check it out!
