Danny was born waaaaaay back on May 10, 1961 (at least according to Wikipedia) and today, being the 52nd anniversary of his entry to this world, it is customary, at least on Fourtheye, to post a video of his finest work. Today’s video, is a version of Jambi from last weeks show in Adelaide. It features some nice work from Danny and his machinery. Those still waiting to see Tool in Japan may want to skip the video in order to avoid spoilers – you’ve been warned!
Tool postpone Adelaide show
Update: The Adelaide Entertainment Centre are reporting on Facebook that they’ve been given the all clear for the show, so looks like it’s all good for tonight!
Update 2: Looks like Maynard has confirmed also:
Last nite only 1st gear outta 5. 2day we’re runnin about 4th. Fuck it. Lets do this. If ya can’t find em, grind em

Well, quite a surreal night tonight. One minute I’m sitting in the pub enjoying some of Maynard’s finest work at the Sip & Listen wine tasting event, the next everyone in the room gets an SMS at the same time saying the Tool show had been postponed until tomorrow. The mood in the room sobered up pretty quickly! Official word from Frontier is:
URGENT: ADELAIDE TOOL CONCERT POSTPONED FROM TONIGHT TO TOMORROW NIGHT WED 1 MAY
The Frontier Touring Company regret to advise that we have just been notified that Tool’s Adelaide’s performance scheduled for this evening has been postponed to tomorrow, Wednesday 1 May.
Maynard James Keenan has been advised by doctors against performing this evening.
Tonight’s concert will be rescheduled to tomorrow night – Wednesday 1 May. All tickets remain valid and as allocated and do not need to be exchanged.
If a patron is unable to attend tomorrow night, they are advised to seek a refund immediately from their original point of purchase. Please seek a refund by Monday 6 May.
Meanwhile Maynard has the following to say in Twitter:
Effing throat won’t go. Adelaide show is postponed until Mañana, May 1st. Sorry
I feel bad for the several Tool fans I spoke to who had flights back home to Perth and other locations in the morning. Get well soon Maynard!

Mudhoney Interview Melvins
Mark Arm from grunge band Mudhoney has interviewed King Buzzo from the Melvins to help celebrate their 30th Anniversary. It’s a great interview and here’s a snippet for you all:
Mark: Have you ever dabbled in the ‘Dark Arts,’ the Occult, Witchcraft, Blackface? Are your souls spoken for, or can we have them?
Buzz: Of course! I sold my soul to the devil decades ago and look how well it’s worked out! I’m at the pinnacle of success! The highest possible point of the rock’n’roll garbage heap! I love that occult shit. Himmler was deeply involved in all of that teenage black arts crap and it didn’t do him a bit of good. He went from chicken farmer to genocide to suicide in almost no time at all. Perfect. In reality though the best part about all that witchcraft, dark arts nonsense are the Goth chicks! Now you’re talking! Listen babe, you can keep the thigh high leather stilettos and the rubber mini skirt but you have to shove that Anton LaVey book up your ass.
The Melvins also recently announced tour dates to celebrate:

Jakob confirmed as NZ support act
Looks like New Zealand post-rock act Jakob have been confirmed as the support act for Tool when they play their two shows in Auckland. For those who haven’t been paying attention, Jakob also supported Tool in Australia back in 2011. Not sure why they didn’t get the gig for the whole tour, I can only presume there was some kind of scheduling issue. Here’s a track of theirs for you to enjoy!
Danny & Maynard speak to Rip It Up NZ
There was a flurry of interviews with Tool earlier this year, and we were promised ones with Danny and Maynard via New Zealand’s Rip It Up magazine. Finally those interviews have appeared on line for your reading pleasure. Here’s an excerpt:
You probably get sick of questions about how the record’s going, but – I mean you’re in a studio making new material, then you’re preparing to tour with older stuff – how does all that sync up in your brain?
We are really just in a rehearsal space at this point, we never really get into a proper studio until everything is completely written, then we book time and knock out the recording process as quickly as possible. So we’re still like in the writing mode. So we’re in the rehearsal space here, so we start our rehearsals playing through the old songs to get the cobwebs out of those: we have a gig coming up, then we start working on the new things. So that works out OK, that way.I read in a recent interview that you’re working on, I guess, the “Lateralus” of this album – your big song that’s going to define the whole record – how’s that coming?
Um: really good. I mean we’re still – believe it or not! – still working on it [laughter] – it’s like an ever-evolving thing, it’s probably going to turn into a thing that’s like, uh, a big trilogy type of feel to it, sort of life, just like Disposition and Intension and Triad, like on the Lateralus record or something. It will probably be over a 20-minute piece when it’s all finished, so it will be a good part of the record. We’re dealing with it in sections, but it’s coming together really well, we’re having lots of fun working on it, that’s for sure.
Interesting interviews, though it doesn’t really cover much we haven’t already read.

April 2013 Tool Newsletter
Blair has posted the April 2013 Tool Newsletter, and it doesn’t have anything particularly exciting for Tool fans (ie no new album news). It does feature and interesting question regarding Truckfighters, as well as some clarification regard a few things with the Opiate reissue:
Q: “Hi! Don’t know who to contact really, maybe you could help me in the right direction? Just checking will TOOL release new material soon? Hopefully they will tour a lot then? I play in a band called Truckfighters, we’ve done over 500 liveshows in Europe, USA, South America and soon also Australia/New Zealand. We will release our fourth record in JAN 2014 on SONY music in Scandinavium and Fuzzorama in the rest of the world. Would love to discuss and opening slot for TOOL, we can do anything to make it happen. We’re professional musicians and know how things work.”
A: How long would it take you and the fellows to get to Australia – once you’ve acquired the necessary AEMU suits, that is? On second though, that new beast of Danny’s sounds pretty damn cool! (Hey, a nice little plug for the band anyway.)
Here’s Danny and his new toy:

Sip & Listen pre-Tool wine tasting events
I had a chat with my mate Matt from Sip & Listen Wines this afternoon, and I asked him to summarise for me the wine tasting events prior to each Australia Tool show. For your convenience, here is his response:
All tastings are FREE. You will be able to purchase the wines and they will be sent to your home or office in the coming days. So you don’t need to take them to the concert.
All tastings except Brisbane are within walking distance of the concert. These tastings will be busy so be early & most venues have food on-site or close by that can be purchased to munch on before the concert

Ashes Divide live and Danny “Superman” Carey
A couple of things I’ve come across this morning. Firstly Billy Howerdel‘s other band Ashes Divide, who feature Jeff Friedl and Mat McJunkins from Puscifer are playing a show at The Satellite in LA on May 8th. Carina Round is also on the bill. You can find more detail here. Thanks to fortysixand2 for the tip.
Like many of us, I watched the new Superman trailer yesterday. It didn’t spark much interest for me, but I was reminded by Metal Sucks this morning that Danny is on the soundtrack with 12 other drummers. Someone has prepared a version of the trailer with the dialogue turned down so that you may appreciate the music a little more (note due to work restrictions I’m yet to actually watch this!). Let us all know what you think in the comments!
