There will also be a silent auction on the night which includes:

Here at Fourtheye we love robust debates, and nothing triggers mass debates like internet polls. In this weeks edition we have two polls.

The first is from Music Radar where readers have voted on the Top 25 bass lines of all time. Justin’s work in Schism comes in at 10th position. Here’s the whole list:

Hysteria – Muse (Chris Wolstenholme)

YYZ – Rush (Geddy Lee)

Another One Bites The Dust – Queen (John Deacon)

Under Pressure – Queen & David Bowie (John Deacon)

Money – Pink Floyd (Roger Waters)

Orion – Metallica (Cliff Burton)

Billie Jean – Michael Jackson (Louis Johnson)

Roundabout – Yes (Chris Squire)

My Generation – The Who (John Entwistle)

Schism – Tool (Justin Chancellor)

Give It Away – Red Hot Chili Peppers (Flea)

The Lemon Song – Led Zeppelin (John Paul Jones)

Taxman – The Beatles (Paul McCartney)

Good Times – Chic (Bernard Edwards)

The Chicken – Jaco Pastorius

Walk On The Wild Side – Lou Reed (Herbie Flowers)

What’s Going On – Marvin Gaye (James Jamerson)

Stand By Me – Ben E King (Wendell Marshall)

The Guns Of Brixton – The Clash (Paul Simonon)

Sweet Emotion – Aerosmith (Tom Hamilton)

Super Freak – Rick James (Oscar Alston)

Pusherman – Curtis Mayfield (Joseph ‘Lucky’ Scott)

These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ – Nancy Sinatra (Carol Kaye)

In The Midnight Hour – Wilson Pickett (Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn)

Make It Funky – James Brown (Fred Thomas)

Some excellent basslines there. I’m sure #1 will cause lots angst amongst you readers, so lets get it out in the open.

Tool feature in the next poll, which happens to be Rolling Stone’s readers Top 10 Metal Bands of All Time. While I’m not sure Tool are a metal band strictly speaking, they managed to take the 10th position:

Metallica

Dream Theatre

Black Sabbath

Iron Maiden

Slayer

Megadeth

Judas Priest

Led Zeppelin

Pantera

Tool

Dream Theatre must have a lot of Rolling Stone reading fans, but at least RS readers have the good taste not to include Slipknot.

As noted by Mareckii there is an interesting new post on Danny Carey’s site which talks about a recent BBQ at his place. It includes this tasty snippet:

As the evening progressed, the party moved down to the lower house (so that even more of Danny’s neighours could be disturbed). There, in a basement music room filled with analog synths and vintage guitars, those not to bloated began to have a go at the instruments. After the jamming was over there were reports from those listening to riffs by Adam and Justin (with Danny on drums) that, though unfamiliar, sounded very Toolish. Having slipped out around 10:30 (with smike in my eyes and visions of 150 mg of Zantac), I didn’t hear these myself, so we’ll just have to take their word of this possible sneak preview of things to come. Personally, I’ll be it was just a decoy…

I imagine that was written by Blair (though it doesn’t say) and is accompanied by this photo:

Danny & Justin had another chat with Aussie radio station Triple J the other day, and had the following to say about the upcoming Tool album:

Chatting with Rosie on triple j, band mates Danny Carey and Justin Chancellor were typically cagey when it came to Tool’s first planned release in 5 years.

Even joking that the follow up album to 2006′s 10,000 days should be called “50,000 days”.

However, Carey did admit that while they hope to have the record out by the end of the year, they are still yet to decide on a name.

“That’s usually the last thing that happens and we argue about that while we’re making the final master of the record. We don’t even have names for the songs until then.”
