Justin talks about Facebook and Album writing

A short interview with Justin has appeared on the Honolulu Pulse in the lead up to tonight’s show, in which Justin talks about Facebook and the new album:

As for what’s in store for Tool in 2011, he said, “we were asked to do some dates in Europe later this year, but we’re not going to do them; we’re really deep in the middle of getting music together for the album. It’s a really cool thing to be in the middle of this process, and it’s my hope we can capture something special in the studio.”

Bad luck for the European readers, but probably a good thing for the rest of us in that we might get to see a new album sometime this year!

Justin talks about the new album

Si emailed me today an interview that Justin has done recently with the New Zealand Herald. The article itself is in regards to their appearance on the Big Day Out Festival, but Justin drops several hints about the new album:

“But we all come up with stuff on our own, and probably for the first six months we just share our ideas with each other, spending hours dithering around. So it really is a big kind of jam session.”

And all he can say about the new album, which might be ready by the end of next year (“You’ll have to be patient”), is that “it’s going to be exceptional”.

More fluff in that article than actual content, but well worth a read…

M.T.Void release approaching

Justin sent us a message today via Toolband regarding Nothing’s Matter, the debut release from M.T.Void:

We are proud and excited to announce the imminent release of "Nothing’s Matter", the complete and concise work of "M.T.Void" – an experimental collaboration, of the sonic kind, between Justin Chancellor and Peter Mohamed. The logistics of making this available to you all have so far proved to be an obstacle. We are currently in the process of procuring a remedy… Our only business is making music, and businessmen are bad company for our record…

P.S. The staff at Guantanamo Bay Records really needs a space station vacation. xxx

Personally I liked what I heard from the snippets they’ve released so far, so am looking forward to the full album getting a release.

August Updates

Here’s a bunch of news updates and things I’ve picked up of the last month but haven’t quite been motivated enough to create a new post for.

In case you missed it, Justin Chancellor will be appearing on a couple of tracks on the new Intronaut album Valley of Smoke.  The album will be released on the 12th of October so Rodney tells me.  No word on what Justin plays on but on track can be streamed on their Myspace site.

The X-Files/30 Days of Night issue #2 should be, or is very close to released now, and a review if can be found here.

Aaron Harris from Isis got married last weekend.  Several Tool members were in attendance so I heard, and according to Blair one of the wedding presents was a Danny Carey Signature Drum!  Congratulations to Aaron and Alexandra!

Maynard has a short interview in the latest issue of Relix Magazine, where he is featured in the Parting Shots section.  I haven’t read it but apparently the interview is largely about wine and doesn’t feature any real music news.  Thanks to Rick for that.

Justin & Shelee Married At Last

It’s been confirmed that Justin and Shelee finally got married despite Wikipedia’s claim that they were already were.  The event happened in St Lucia in the Caribbean on the 21st of May I believe.  Pics of the event (including other members of Tool can be found and Toolband, and for a change there’s some exclusive pics on Toolarmy

Anyway, congratulations from everyone at Fourtheye, and I hope they enjoy an amazing life together!

M.T.void Youtube Channel

M.T.void, the new band involving Justin have just created a Youtube channel, which contains a video from the mastering sessions with Bob Ludwig.  M.T.void can also be found on most of your social media networks, so those keen to keep up with these guys should do a little searching around.

Personally, I think it sounds quite promising, certainly the Polish vocals are quite unique to my ears.

Adam’s Comic, Justin’s Side Project & Happy Birthday’s

Just yesterday I was reading an article about a new X Files comic which happens to be a crossover with the 30 Days of Night series.  Then this morning I had it pointed out to me by a couple of readers that Adam is actually involved in this.  No details on what exactly he’s contributed, but I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough.

Update: Looks like Adam is a co-writer, and some further details (including artwork which I presume isn’t Adam’s) can be found here.

There’s been talk of Justin being involved in a side project for a while now, and according to skum_fist this may be it.  The band in question is called M.T.void and would appear to be an experimental rock band.  More details and samples can be found there for those interested.

It seems as though I forgot to wish Maynard a happy birthday the other day, so here’s a belated one!  Today is also the birthday of everyone’s favorite lighting dude, as well as someone else pretty cool (no not Hitler).  Happy birthday Junior!
