The Book of Douche Bag. Vol 4. vs The Hunter

Things are pretty quiet in the Tool world at the moment, so in order to keep you clicking on my ads informed here’s the latest in the Book of Douche Bag series of videos from Puscifer:

I’m still surprised we don’t have Puscifer dates for the tour yet.  Hopefully soon!

Just in case that Puscifer video doesn’t do much for you, perhaps you’ll find the new Mastodon album The Hunter more to your liking:

A Perfect Circle featured in Rage TV ad

Got an email from Graham yesterday tipping me off to a TV advertisement for the coming ID game Rage which features the track Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums by A Perfect Circle. We couldn’t find the link, but this morning I read on the Bethesda Blog that it’s now available on Youtube.

I can’t verify the video at the moment, as I’m in the office, so let me know if if it works, and presuming it does, what you think.

Rumour: A Perfect Circle for Big Day Out

I’m extremely doubtful this is the case, but in the last few days a Twitter account called BigDayOutSpy has been leaking the alleged lineup for the 2012 Big Day Out.  Acts so far have been somewhat interesting, without being amazing until this post earlier this evening:

A Perfect Circle are the other Green/Converse stage headliner at Big Day Out!

So far, I found the leaks believable, but to be honest I’m not sure I can see A Perfect Circle playing the Big Day Out next year.  Headlining the small stage sounds tantalising though (however it would be annoying if the rumoured Pearl Jam main stage headliner were true).

Definitely file in the “I’ll believe it when I see it confirmed” category…

For the record, the Big Day Out Spy alleges the following lineup (in no particular order):

  • The Killers
  • SOAD
  • A Perfect Circle
  • Underworld
  • Chase and Status
  • Florence and the Machine
  • Opeth
  • Cake
  • The Decemberists
  • Biffy Clyro
  • Cut Copy
  • Boy and Bear
  • Karnivool
  • Architecture in Helsinki
  • Josh Pyke
  • OFWGKTA
  • The Vaccines

Other rumours suggest Pearl Jam will headline, and Kasabian & My Chemical Romance will also play.

Update: A Perfect Circle on their Facebook page this morning mentioned “That’s unfortunately not true” so I guess this myth is pretty much busted.

Merkin Vineyards Chupacabra 2006 gets Australian release

Matt Irwin & Trent Allen, a couple of entrepreneurial Aussies have managed to secure the right to distribute Maynard’s wines into Australia.  This makes us the first country outside of the USA to have official distribution for these products.  It’s not a release of the entire range however, the first shipment will be the Chupacabra 2006, and I’d expect if this sells well then future wines will also become available.

From the press release:

sip & listen…
Sitting around the dinner table after a couple of days skiing in the Canadian Rockies, childhood mates Matt Irwin & Trent Allen cracked open a bottle of Chupacabra while listening to Tool’s Salival, and wondered why this amazing wine was not available back home. With backgrounds in the wine business & music industry, they have secured exclusive rights to import Maynard’s wines to Australia.

The wine…
The first shipment is a limited amount of Merkin Vineyards Chupacabra 2006. This will be the first time any of Maynard’s wines will be available outside of North America. It is also the only time we will see Merkin Vineyards, as Maynard and Eric have decided to limit distribution of the Merkin/Caduceus lines and focus on Arizona Stronghold Vineyards. 2012 will see the first ASV wines hit Australia, but we will have to wait and see how much sip & listen can secure for the people down under.

The Chupacabra is coming…
Merkin Vineyards Chupacabra is a shape-shifter, evolving vintage after vintage. The 2006 is a blend of traditionally French grapes that have found a home in the Californian landscape. From the Tasting Notes "Bold and mysterious, the wine shows both a light and a dark side. From black fruit, tobacco and forest aromas to flavours of kiwi, grapefruit and nettle on the lighter end, this smoky and complex red is enticing from the first sip."

Reserve a bottle…
Word is spreading quickly and Matt & Trent are receiving daily requests to reserve bottles for people.  Merkin Vineyards Chupacabra 2006 will retail in Australia for $34.99 per bottle or 3 for $100 (inc. GST, postage not included). If you are interested in buying a bottle (or 3!), email your name and order to sipandlisten@hotmail.com. If you are after a case, please email for a price. You do not have to pay until the wine is released in a few weeks time. You will receive a reservation number which puts you in a draw for an Arizona Stronghold merch pack (inc. Chupacabra Australian Release Bottle no. 353)!

You can also follow their progress on Facebook and Twitter.

Not sure how many bottles these guys are importing, so it’s probably worth getting your order in quickly!

Carina leaks Puscifer tour details

The beautiful Carina Round has mentioned in her latest newsletter that the 2011 Puscifer Tour will take place between the 10th of November and the 15th of December with the band playing 21 shows.  Given that’s just over a month in length, I’d expect the tour to be somewhat extensive.  I expect more details will be announced in the coming weeks!

It’s also worth mentioning that Carina has a new single The Last Time which is released on the 8th of November.  The single will feature a Puscifer remix of the track “Girl and the Ghost” and will be available digitally and on vinyl.

Thanks to Brent for the tip!

A Perfect Circle 2011 summer tour wrap-up

A Perfect Circle toured all across the US (and occasionally Canada) this summer and from all reports it was a good, though somewhat controversial tour.

Much of the controversy revolved around the choice of setlist for the tour.  The setlist changed from night to night, however played mainly songs from their last album eMotive.  Many fans, not being such huge fans of this album, were disappointed that they didn’t get to hear more tracks from their favorite albums Mer De Noms and Thirteenth Step.

However those attending the shows generally seemed to enjoy the new additions to the set.  According to Setlist.fm, the following tracks were played on the tour:

  • Every show:
    • Imagine
    • People Are People
    • Passive
    • Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums
    • Annihilation
    • Weak and Powerless
    • By And Down
    • The Outsider
    • 3 Libras (All Main Courses Mix)
  • Played most shows:
    • The Hollow
    • When The Levee Breaks
    • (What’s So Funny ’bout) Peace, Love and Understanding?
    • Gimme Gimme Gimme
    • The Noose
    • Fiddle And The Drum
    • What’s Going One
  • And a selection of these songs each night:
    • Rose
    • Magdalena
    • Gravity
    • The Package
    • Orestes
    • Blue

Personally, I was disappointed to read that the set was largely covers.  Far be it for me to dictate to a band what they should and shouldn’t play, but I find it a little distasteful that a band I’d pay money to see play a set with so many cover songs in it.  If I wanted to see a covers band I could go down to the local pub and see one for nothing.  That said, I do wish I could have seen the tour for myself.  It’s all too easy to judge a band on their setlist, not taking into account the atmosphere and dynamics of the show.

Speaking of which, from all reports the stage setup and lighting was excellent, with the band playing in front of a large metallic curtain with the APC logo on it.  As usual, Junior seems to have done a fine job with the lighting.

One thing many found quite interesting about the shows was that a new song, By And Down was played.  Normally the final song in the set, this moody song sounds more like a Thirteenth Step track than a Mer De Noms one, and there are plenty of bootlegs available on Youtube for those interested.

A reasonable number of you attended the shows as VIPs, and the reports from that experience were generally pretty positive.  VIPs received an APC bag, a poster and possibly some other stuff, and also got the change to experience the sound check, as well as get some premium seats at the shows.  There were a few hiccups here and there, but it seems as the though the VIP tickets offered good value for those that picked them up.

Some were even lucky enough to catch some of the band after the shows.  By all accounts the band were quite happy to chat with fans (though Maynard generally was nowhere to be seen).  Word is that there will be a new album, but don’t expect it any time soon.  A certain member has other priorities in the coming months/years…

One of which of course is Puscifer.  We’ve already been warned to expect a tour in October/November.  On the Ashes Divide front, they are close to completing a new album, so I’d be expecting to hear that and a tour as well, probably early 2012.
