A Perfect Circle debut new song

As Billy predicted in numerous interviews, A Perfect Circle played a new track at last nights show called By And Down.  Those interested in listening to it can do so via the powers of Youtube:

By And Down

The show last night seemed like an interesting affair, and I won’t elaborate any further in order to not spoil it for those wanting to be surprised.  On that note I’d like to remind people to keep setlist spoilers only in the appropriate show thread inside the forum.

Queens of Country update

Well known Tool haters Pitchfork have today posted an update on the forthcoming Queens of Country movie by Blood Into Wine directors Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke:

Last year, Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock re-ignited his side project Ugly Casanova to contribute songs to the documentary 180° South. A year later, he’s on his making-music-for-movies grind again. Brock will compose the score for the upcoming feature film Queens of Country, written and directed by Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke (Blood Into Wine,The Heart Is a Drum Machine) and starring Lizzy Caplan (of the late, beloved TV series "Party Down"), Ron Livingston (Office Space), and (wait for it) Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan.

According to a press release, the plot of Queens of Country revolves around "Caplan’s character Jolene and a lost iPod, which the obsessed country music fan is convinced belongs to her soul mate. Jolene quickly finds herself in a hilarious adventure of mistaken identities, line dancing competitions, time machines and doppelgangers." So yeah, your typical lost-iPod-time-machine-country-music-rom-com flick, sounds like. And they say the film industry’s run out of ideas!

The movie, as well as Brock’s score, is slated for a 2012 release. Watch a video of Ugly Casanova performing the 180° South contribution "Here’s to Now" below while you continue to wonder whether Modest Mouse will ever make another album.

No doubt all boned up over the Modest Mouse involvement.  Still it’s been a while since we’ve had an update on this movie and thanks for Jason for the tip!

Maynard talks up Puscifer Album, Tour

In a recent interview by Spin, Maynard talks about the forthcoming Puscifer album Conditions of My Parole:

The album features frequent Puscifer collaborators, including producer Mat Mitchell, Telefon Tel Aviv’s Josh Eustis, and British singer/songwriter Carina Rounds, plus newcomers including Jeff Friedl and Matt McJunkins from ASHES dIVIDE, L.A. songwriter Juliette Commagere, Bat for Lashes drummer Sarah Jones, and Jon Theodore, the former sticksman for Mars Volta. "He’s got some serious chops," says Maynard. "Working with different people opens up a whole new set of questions and puzzles and solutions.

The album should be released October 18th and will include a two month tour.  Of Tool, Maynard mentions that “We’re writing”.

Maynard’s Top 10 iTunes tracks

I don’t have iTunes installed, so can’t check this out for myself, but a recent Top 10 list by Maynard has appeared and it contains the following tracks:

  • "Man of Constant Sorrow," Soggy Bottom Boys
  • "Black Out," Scorpions
  • "Nobody’s Fault But Mine," Nina Simone
  • "Crossroads (live)," Ahmad Jamal

Most interesting of course that there’s a new Puscifer track listed there, and this track comes with a twitpic to enlighten you and cigars…

Alleged Tapeworm tracks leaked?

Had an email across my desk today from Joe who points me towards Youtube user 25Bayor who posted a range of videos claiming to be Tapeworm cuts.  A couple of tracks appear to have singers that sound like Trent Reznor and Marilyn Manson, though none I’ve heard sound like Maynard at all (except a live version of Passive that I’m presuming is APC).

Are these the real deal?  I’m not entirely convinced.  None of them are particularly compelling tracks, though Reznor himself hinted in the past that they weren’t good enough for a general release.  Anyway, why don’t you all take a listen and let me know your thoughts…

Puscifer Update

Maynard’s not the type to sit idle, and recently as well as working in vineyards, rehearsing with A Perfect Circle and writing with Tool, he’s been working on some new Puscifer material.  According to a recent tweet it would appear that this work is no complete and a release “window” set:

Finishin up new puscifer tracks. mixin this month w hopes of an Oct release. It’s sounding pretty tasty. Fairly confident you’ll b pleased.

I’m looking forward to hearing what’s next for Puscifer!  No word yet on how many tracks have been recorded, my guess is it will be an EP…

Josh Freese to miss A Perfect Circle tour?

Josh Freese made several tweets today suggesting that he won’t be playing on the upcoming A Perfect Circle tour (though he did play at the recent festival show):

Sad 2 report that 4 the 1st time ever Im having 2 sit out a tour with @aperfectcircle. I’ll explain more in next day on my site (if ya care)

m not stopping playing with them though. All is well. We had a great gig last night. Unfortunate timing. I’ll continue 2 be in the band.

Thx 4 the nice messages. Trust me. Im very sad about it and Im sorry that I wont b there (first time I’ve ever apologized for missing shows)

Hopefully it’s not because he’s chosen to play with Paramore instead…

Update: Jeff Freidl from Ashes Divide will be drumming in Josh’s place.

New A Perfect Circle shows in Utah, Ohio and Connecticut

Just got an email from the A Perfect Circle mailing list which confirms a further three shows during August for the upcoming tour:

Great news especially for those in Utah that have been waiting with baited breath for that show to be confirmed!  Tickets go on sale June 3, with no pre-sales.  VIP tickets will be available from here.

Howerdel discusses new A Perfect Circle material

In a recent interview with Gotham Radio, Billy Howerdel talks about A Perfect Circle, new songs, the upcoming tour and Ashes Divide.  Here’s a snippet:

So will we hear new APC music on the tour? “We are gonna hear at least a song, I would say,” Billy tells me. “One of them is very, very close to being done. And from there, things could come together once we get on the road and start hashing through some of the other ideas and they could quickly become a song and find their way onto the live stage.”

Does that mean a new album is in the works? “In the works, but not for this summer. I think the idea was to try and get the juices flowing a bit and get back into A-B-C mode a bit and go from there,” he says. “See what happens in the new year. We have intentions of recording new material.”

I haven’t listened to the whole thing yet, so if any of you enterprising Fourtheye readers do, and hear anything else of note, feel free to comment below!  Thanks to av333 for the tip!
