Followup to San Diego

Here’s an article I read this morning from SignOnSanDiego talking about the events of the recent San Diego concert, during which 15 people were injured. If found the article to be quite interesting, and talks in depth about the responses by the local authorities, and praise for Maynard and the band in how they dealt with the situation. Sadly it seems that some of these injuries are life threatening, so I’m sure all readers here hope these fans come though alright. There were some reports that there was a death, however I’ve been unable to confirm this on the brief search I did this morning.

Happier news now, The Melvins have a new CD coming out later this year. It’s called A Senile Animal and should be released on the 10th of October. This will be their first album since merging with Big Business and knowing The Melvins, should be well worth checking out. No word on whether Adam makes an appearance, though considering his schedule, I’d be guess he won’t.

Here’s the cover art, done as usual by Buzz’s wife Mackie. In case the style is somewhat familiar to you, Mackie has also done artwork for Tool in the past, including 10,000 Days.

Edit: Actually I should say I presume it’s done by Mackie.  There doesn’t seem to be any confirmation, but it does look like her style.  Eeither way, I like it!

Tour Rumours

Blair made a couple of posts today, one a Toolarmy exclusive which talk about the upcoming arena tour.

Firstly he suggests that Tool will be visiting the southern parts of the US not already mentioned, though this may not be until they get back from Europe/Australia.  I guess this means Tool down under immediately afther the Euro tour winds up in December?  Not too surprising i suppose, and a source (admittedly of a dubious background) suggests to me Tool will be playing the Big Day Out, and may well be joined by Mike Patton’s new band Peeping Tom and Audioslave.  This of course flies in the face of the other reliable source who insist Tool will be touring in January, though not with the Big Day Out but with Isis in tow.  We’ll wait and see I suppose.

The second bit Blair mentions is that the stage show for the arenas will be alot bigger than what we’ve seen in the warm-up shows, and that the set lists will be changing as well.  Personally, i can’t wait to see Tool delivered to the stage in a purple UFO, kinda like the lemon in the U2 Popmart tour….

Crush in San Diego

According to SignOnSanDiego there was a crush at the Street Scene concert in San Diego last night during the Tool set.  Around 15 people were injured and sent to hospital despite pleas from Maynard for the crowd to take it easy.

I don’t think I really have to say this to Fourtheye readers, but if you’re at a Tool gig, show a little decorum and don’t just mindlessly rush the stage to be near your heroes.  Having been involved in crushes in the past, it sure isn’t fun for the people at the front.

Tour Dates, Vicarious Video Update

Blair‘s posted plenty of new tour dates on Toolband, including some East Coast US Dates, and some more European dates. Also confirmed was that Tool will be playing in Athens in December, though the venue is TBA. Apollo has blessed you.

There’s been lots of interest in the Vicarious video, and when it would be released. In response to this, Chronographer on Toolarmy posted a link to an interview with Adam, where he says they needed to hire a new CGI Team, with the implication that the onld one was crap. Expect the video (and DVD?) later this year…..

Bizarre in the Bazaar

Blair makes a couple of posts today, including one TA exclusive one about a show in on September the 3rd.  I can’t really follow what’s going on, something about drug busts at the last show.  Lay off the weed Blair!

Australia get’s a bit of loving from Blair as well.  He says that while no dates are confirmed at the moment, he says “I wouldn’t worry too much about Tool performing in one of their favorite places on the earth”.

He also goes on to mention that there’s a new shirt available in the Bazaar, called EYE-XAXAAR.  Despite the wierd name, it’s a pretty normal shirt with some of the 10,000 Days artwork on it.  Here’s pic for you lot to enjoy:

More EU Dates

Looks like a few more European dates are cropping up. Thanks to Blksun from Toolarmy for these:

  • Italy on the 12th and 13th of November (could be wrong, my Italians pretty rusty. Sure the guys from Toolband Italia will help out).
  • France on the 10th of December at Le Zenith. Thanks to Moon for giving me the info as well…..

I’m sure more will appear in the next few days.

Edit: The Italians dates are:

  • 12-Nov-06 Torino, Palaisozaki
  • 13-Nov-06 Firenze, Mandela Forum
  • 15-Nov-06 Rimini, 105 Stadium
  • 16-Nov-06 Jesolo (Ve), Palasport

Thanks to Mattia

Add Ireland to the list…

of places that will being seeing Tool before we see them here in Australia.  Damn you!

Thanks to the Tool Hotline for letting me know that Tool will be playing at the Point Theatre in Dublin on the 22nd of November.  That certainly confirms Maynard comments about Tool coming back to Europe in November.  Tickets may be purchased at Ticketmaster.
While all you us Aussies construct our voodoo dolls to exact revenge on the band members, here’s a picture of Jason with the Net of Being print that recently arrived.  Nice Glasses!

Staples Center Pre-sale

CorpseGrindeR sent me an email this morning outlining a pre-sale for the Tool show in LA’s Staples Center on the 7th of December.  This sale takes place on Friday the 21st of July, and is on the internet only.  Get in before it’s too late!  It’s a shame Toolarmy hasn’t been as pro-active with their pre-sales, though I’d guess there may be a similar system in place for the upcoming tour that was used for the warm up shows, ie- a lottery for local fans held the day before the show.
