Pre-Sale Wrap Up, Adam Jones Interview

Well the pre-sales happened earlier today. Brisbane went about as smoothly as you’d hope. Tickets may even still be available if you haven’t got them already. Melbourne on the other handle was a cock up of epic proportions. In between wrong passwords, My Ticketmaster pre-sales and the late availablilty of Gold Tickets, there’s a wide range of fans, myself included who feel a little pissed that they missed out. Good news it that we at least have Monday to try again, and getting lawn tickets at the back wasn’t all that hard. Anyone who wants to help me out with with a gold ticket should let me know.

Some are hoping there might be some kind of second pre-sale to make up for the mistakes made on the first. I think this is pretty unlikely to happen, so don’t go getting your hopes up.

In more interesting news, there’s a short interview with Adam on Gun Shy Assassin where he talks about Faith No More amongst other things…

I ask Adam if he’d please tour with Faith No More. Then, I get the answer I wanted to hear. “I’m up for anything,” Jones tells Gun Shy. “I’m the guy in the band who wants to tour, who will drop what he’s doing and hit the books. But there’s just…you know, I’m married to three other guys and we’re all very different, so…I am [down to tour with Faith No More], and if something like that happened, it would be amazing but…hey, it is what it is.”

A Faith No More/Tool tour would be the greatest tour in history.

Tool Pre-Sales opening soon

Just in case you’ve forgotten, Tool pre-sales start in about 20 minutes in Melbourne, and then about an hour later in Brisbane. You should already have the details via Toolarmy or your ticketing agent. As we all know by now, this pre-sale isn’t very exclusive.

I get the feeling todays sale won’t end well for many. A few people have reported that Ticketmaster is already slow. Unfortunately I don’t have access to Ticketmaster here at work, so I’m reliant and a good friend getting me a ticket, so I can’t join in the fun on refreshing every 10 seconds with you guys.

As with the recent A Perfect Circle gigs, if and when you don’t get the tickets you want, please try and act like adults and refrain from pointless “Fuck you!” type posts. I reserve the right to delete any unnecessarily negative posts, and certainly will be removing ones that are offensive in nature. Remember you will have another bite of the cherry on Monday, and the world won’t come crashing to an end.

Also, for what it’s worth, there’s no point blaming Blair and Toolarmy. I’m pretty sure he can’t control what Ticketmaster and Ticketek publish on their sites. Be thankful that we have some kind of pre-sale at all…

Also – Good luck!

Pre-sale FAQ

I’ve had about 20 or so emails today asking about the pre-sales, so in an attempt to try and minimize the amount of time I spend logged into Gmail, here’s a compilation of what little we know about the presales.  As more information comes to hand I’ll try and keep this post updated.

UPDATE

Pre-sale details, which include a link and password to the sales are now up on Toolarmy. Tickets go on-sale at midday tomorrow, and according to Ticketek it will be 12:00PM AEST, which suggests it’s local time rather than daylight savings time. Please log into Toolarmy to view them, and remember that under no circumstances are they to be published anywhere on Fourtheye.

What we know:

  • Ticketmaster have details of a fanclub pre-sale for the Melbourne show on their site, which claims that tickets will go on sale on the 4th of November at 12:00pm.  12:00pm is usually lunchtime, not midnight.
  • Ticketek have no details on the Brisbane gig on their site.
  • Both sites are listing ticket prices at between $108 and $140.
  • Blair said in a Toolarmy exclusive post:

NOTE ABOUT PRE-SALES
I am still waiting for a link from the promoter for ToolArmy member pre-sales for the 2 ‘solo’ shows in Australia. As SOON as I get this, I will post the information.

They are all the facts we have.  Anything else out there is speculation.

How I think it’ll go down:

I imagine some time, probably on Thursday morning Australian time, Blair will post a password as a Toolarmy exclusive post.  This will probably include a link to the page on the appropriate ticketing agents site, though I doubt this link will be private.

Some speculate that Toolarmy members may get individually emailed passwords.  This may happen, but I’d be a little surprised if this were the case.

Should I join Toolarmy?

The answer is yes, probably.  Presuming the password gets posted as an exclusive post on Toolarmy, then the US$40 you’d spend to join is probably good value for money.  However, joining Toolarmy probably won’t guarantee you a ticket.  The presale will most likely be limited to a certain amount of tickets, so there is still probably an element of first in first served.  Nothing is guaranteed though, so don’t complain to me if you join Toolarmy and miss out.

Note: under no circumstances will the password or link to the pre-sale be published on Fourtheye.  Any comments which do so will be immediately removed.  Please don’t bug me for it, I won’t be giving it to anyone.

Pre-sales confirmed

Blair has confirmed that there will be a Toolarmy pre-sale for both Australian side shows.  Details will be posted before tickets go on sale, which is at 12:00pm on the 4th of November.  Technically 12:00pm is lunchtime by the way, so I presume it’s then and not midnight.  I hope this gets clarified, as I’d rather no stay up until midnight the night before unless I have to…

No further information has been given in regards to this presale, and there is no information on Ticketek for the Brisbane gig as I write this.

Will there be a pre-sale?  I don’t know, I’m a little skeptical to be honest, but would be great if there was one!  Thanks to chiaroskura for spotting this for me.

Tool confirm solo shows

Blair has confirmed the two Tool solo shows in Australia next year on Toolband:

CONFIRMED:

JANUARY 24 – BRISBANE at ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE

FEBRUARY 2 – MELBOURNE at MYER BOWL

TICKETS GO ON SALE NOVEMBER 4TH.

I believe the on-sale date is not the 4th of November, but will actually be the 8th as advertised on the Big Day Out site.  However neither of the dates appear on Ticketmaster or Ticketek, so we can’t be sure until they do.  Either way, once the date is confirmed I will post the information here.

I’m expecting that these will be the only two solo shows this tour.  Those holding out for a New Zealand or Sydney date are probably going to be disappointed…

Danny speaks with Faster Louder

There’s an excellent interview with Danny on Aussie site Faster Louder this morning.  He talks about preparations for the tour and touches on the new album as well:

What can we expect from this Tool show that differs from the band’s previous Big Day Out appearance in 2007?
Definitely different lighting features, props and visual delights I guess! Not a lot of new music but we’ll try to mix it up as much as we can, maybe pull out a few oldies that people may not have heard in quite a while. Maybe give a few hints of some things that we’ve been working on in between songs. Who knows. Maybe by then we may even have a couple of new songs to play. We’re working on them daily so it kind of depends on how far along we get.

There definitely will be big visual surprises. It won’t be what you saw last time. There’ll be some of the similar elements in certain songs that we’re happy with how they’ve developed visually.

Also interesting is the possibility of digital releases:

The music industry has seen a lot of changes in recent times, with the continued decline in album sales and the increase in both legal and illegal downloads. How will Tool attack the digital market/world or will you just stick to the conventional CD release?
It’s kind of tough. The thing that we sort of disappointed about is that the way it’s all set up is that it’s catering to short attention spans rather than selling albums, they’d [the record companies] would rather sell a single or a lot of the time, butchered down versions of singles. It’s a sad situation because we’ve always put a big importance on buying albums as a single piece of art. We attempt to present our albums as albums and we’re actually negotiating with our record company and different people to release our stuff in the digital format. We wanted to make a point that the digital downloads can be available at the highest quality that technology will allow, even doing it at a higher level than any of our CDs. That is a positive side of the whole technological advancement in music.

While I understand the desire to release albums in the format of their choice, it’s good to see that they aren’t turning their back on the digital world completely!

Thanks to Jimmy666 for tip!

Danny announced Tool sideshows in Melbourne and Brisbane

According to reports from Cubanpete, Danny has been on Triple J this morning and mentioned that there will Tool sideshows in Brisbane and Melbourne.  According to the release on the Triple J site:

Mon 24 Jan – Entertainment Centre BRISBANE
Wed 2 Feb – Sidney Myer Music Bowl, MELBOURNE

Tickets for both shows go on sale Monday November 8. Get more info at bigdayout.com
Big Day Out promoters have said that these will be the only headline shows for the band on this tour.

Great news for Queenslanders!

Also mentioned was that fact that the Williams sisters love Tool!

The tennis star was in Melbourne playing the Australian Open. Carey reports that both Williams sisters are big rock fans and that Tool got invited to watch Serena win that tournament.

"I’m hoping she’s going to do well again this time in the Australian Open and have us down. Last time we had so much fun and we got to watch her whip Sharapova’s ass. It was awesome so we’re kinda hoping that’s going to happen again. Got to do the celebratory dinner with her after with her Mom and her hitting coach…. It was a blast. I hope she comes out to the gig this time. She couldn’t get away last time because she had too much press to do. I know the feeling!"

Update: Also mentioned was that New Zealand’s Jakob will be supporting, which is no huge surprise given that Aaron Harris will be coming with Tool and has done plenty of work with them.

Update 2: Here are some more ticketing details.  No word on price yet:

Entertainment Centre, Brisbane
Monday, 24 January, 2011
Tickets available from www.ticketek.com.au & 132 849

Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne
Wednesday, 2 February, 2011

Tickets via www.ticketmaster.com.au & 136 100

As mentioned above all tickets go on sale on the 8th of November.

No Tool Sydney Sideshow?

Terry, not content with letting me know about the Alex Grey show, also pointed out this snippet from a recent Big Day Out press release:

SYDNEY BIG DAY OUT TICKETS, AUSTRALIA DAY – 26th JANUARY, 2011 EXPRESS BALLOT ANNOUNCED!

25 October, 2010

We have held back 3,000 tickets for the first Sydney BDO event on Wednesday, 26 January 2011 to be sold via the official BDO website ballot.
This ballot will be conducted over ONE WEEK ONLY, and NO further tickets will be made available for this show.
You can register for the ballot from Thursday, 28 October, with the ballot drawn Thursday, 4 November.
For registration details click here
PLEASE NOTE: The two BDO shows (Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th January) at Homebush will be your ONLY opportunity to see TOOL in Sydney.

Sounds like bad news for Sydney fans expecting to see Tool on their own, and not really promising signs for the rest of us…

Update: According to a post on Facebook, someone heard that sideshows for the BDO headliners will be announced on Triple J tomorrow.  We’ll wait and see!

Tool October 2010 Newsletter

Just to keep us on our toes Blair has released the October Newsletter at the beginning of the month rather than the end.  It’s really just a summary of upcoming events that people should consider attending including an a gallery with some of Adam’s art on display, a Crowleymas celebration where Danny & Blair will be signing books and such, a Volto! and Cpt. Kirk gigs and an event at COSM.

Most importantly for Aussie fans it touched on the Big Day Out tour:

For those of you hoping for some solo tour dates to be announced, all I can say at this point is to keep checking the website

The way I read that suggests that solo tour dates would be happening, and stay tuned for the inevitable announcement on a Tool fansite.  I wouldn’t get to bothered about Blair’s comment on the second Big Day Out.  I’m sure he’s not suggesting that Tool won’t be playing.

Update: I mean to add that the second Sydney Big Day Out goes on sale at midnight tonight.  Ballots to score remaining tickets for the Melbourne and Gold Coast shows start later this week as well.  If you’re planning on going to Auckland, Adelaide or Perth, don’t go expecting them to remain available for too much longer…
