Re: Tool 2019 Europe Tour
Oh, and I've got to say - I really appreciated the "no phones" policy (mostly "enforced" by numerous announcements before the show, though I saw security calling out people a couple of times). I wish more bands did this. The only other band I've seen being so strict about this is...

Re: Tool 2019 Europe Tour
Just came back from the Berlin show. Setlist was the same as the recent US shows (Intolerance, 12 minute break before CCTrip). The band was in great shape! Adam seemed to have some ongoing discussion with his tech and guitar problems, including a broken string (?) and a guitar exchange on the fly du...

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
When I hear a song like Rosetta Stoner it blows my mind. I would assume that is common for anyone who listens to it. To this day even. And it’s because of everything it is. It takes the listener on this Audio driven hallucinogenic experience. A pinnacle of musical genius and creativity IMO. But... ...

Re: Tool 2019 Europe Tour
Oof. And I thought travelling from western Germany to Berlin just for a show would be borderline too much effort.lachrymologist wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 7:49 pm Ok, I'm about to board a flight to Barcelona and then to Paris and finally get into Berlin around 8 Saturday night...
I believe the crisis has been avoided.
Good luck!

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
The music world has changed since Tool's "segue heavy" days. It's more common now to pick 5 or 6 bands and stream them on random, which doesn't really work nicely with Tool. I don't expect them to sequence the new album with streaming or other "modern" listening habits in mind t...

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Nah, I hope they go back to a bare minimum setlist with weak vocals. I don't want to regret not shelling out hundreds of EUR to a ticket reseller. Never mind that, I just enlisted in the Fourtheye live show correspondent program for Berlin. Maynards vocals on the recent live videos gave me the fina...

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
I completely disagree... We will be listening to these songs for the rest of our lives, long after Tool is likely done touring, and well beyond the time that MJK can replicate his younger voice. I would MUCH prefer him stretch his vocals and limitation on the CD version, and leave out those parts l...

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Re: Maynards live vocals I keep remembering this interview, from 5:00 on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaDO_sP8F8Q&t=300 The remark about the wine drinking really stepped on his toe. :D In any case I'd prefer him doing on the record what he can replicate live, instead of going beyond his limi...

Re: Introduce Yourself (right on)
Thanks, and hi! I'm TheKillingJoke, named after one of my favorite bands, the Batman comic, and the Monty Python sketch. I've been lurking around this place since about 2010, but didn't have anything so say yet. I'm from Germany, work with computers by day and have the (admittedly very specific) hob...

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
I've been thinking about how much more ethereal than visceral the new songs are, damn, they just flow. I think they've essentially been on that trajectory since the beginning, even though the old material has both of those factors. It's just a given that age is going to mellow them out a bit, the r...

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Both songs don't exactly make my blood boil like Tool did 20 years ago, but I like the relaxed and spacious vibe. I can't point to anything I find particularly great or exiting about the songwriting, and yet I've listened to the songs on repeat for a couple of hours now, especially Invincible. If th...

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
My estimate for the lyrical contents of the album: - Kids these days - Jeez, Adam. - Get off your phones, damn it - Don't do drugs (they are funny, though) - Something something about the polarizing effect of social media (10 years after the fact) - Get off my lawn, too. - Danny and the interdimensi...
