Another random redditor who won't back up their source posts an update from the studio:

Hello all. I've been indirectly involved with some of the aspects of TOOL's album recording process. Don't bother asking me who I am, or how exactly I am involved.

Anyways, I thought I'd give this sub a little hope. Adam finished recording his guitar parts just yesterday. He uses tones & sweeping soundscapes on this record that I can guarantee you have never heard in your life. It's truly incredible what him, Danny, and Justin have put together. It certainly will not disappoint.

Maynard is expected to be in here next week. He was very quick in getting shit done the last time he was around (10,000 days), and you can expect that the album will be completely done (recording-wise) in the next couple weeks here. \

As long as nothing catastrophic happens, the guys are hoping for a very early 2019 release. They wanted to do an unannounced release (with no single), but the record label pushed back against the idea pretty hard, so we're looking at a standard release cycle.

The album will be on all streaming services, along with their prior releases. It seems that a lot of fans have drawn the conclusion that the band was 'above' releasing music digitally, but that was never the case. Once streaming became popular, pretty much everyone in the group wanted to go digital, but the conversation was never really fully had and they simply have just put it off for now.
