I can imagine Ascending being an opening track with Descending being the closer. A heavy instrumental part on the back-end of the song would fit as a closer. Another possibility is Ascending/Descending is a two-part song. There has to be something to the A/Descending, which used to be the name of the live jam.

what about like this:

1. A/ descending
B/ second part of song
C/ ending

2. new song


3. new song


4. invincible



5. new song

and so on.

I agree. I still think Ascending will either be an opener or separate part of a longer Descending track. I haven't listened to Descending yet, but isn't there a pyramid theme during that song live? The shape of a pyramid is said to symbolize the ascension and descension of the soul. Just sayin'....

I admire your play on this - I spent a decade wondering how I’d first listen to new stuff and wound up in my underpants on a couch somewhere in Asia before dawn on a Monday watching the first YouTube uploads of Rockville. Descending is the tits - it pays massive dividends more than 5 or 6 times in the song. The more I listen to it the better it gets. The pro edits coming out on YT are really good quality for a bootleg... but hang in there

Descending and Invincible are so good I realized I gotta be careful when reviewing other new albums. When you hear two songs that are so absolutely fucking fantastic it is easy for anything else to sound dull in comparison. Doesn't change the fact the the new Baroness album blows but still it is something I noticed.

It is pretty clear this new Tool album is going to take a shit on everything else this year. No fanboy bullshit if the new Tool songs sucked I would be bashing them non stop. Give me any reason to hate on Tool and I will take it but fuck I can't Descending and Invincible are just that good. I take a few days away from listening to them and then come back and mind blown again.

Fuck Tool for their bullshit but those bastards write incredible songs.
