The curve ball is the next album is all instrumental and MJK adds his parts on the slide whistle.

the typical tool fan: complains about blair's newsletter.
blair gets sacked: complains about blair being sacked.

I’m not complaining, nor am I typical. I’m just afraid that a hostile interdimensional Spartley-bug has shunted off Blair’s consciousness into an ethereal mind prison and is doing a poor job of imitating BMB in this dimension. Hopefully BMB will break free from his crypt and vanquish this beast.

wonder if adam will try 7 or 8 string guitar this time, it would be a natural progression and an interesting experiment in context with tool

Doesn't Adam really only use his Les Pauls though?

I don't know a ton about their recording process but I always got the impression that he never really used other guitars. Although I do think there was one song where he used a different guitar, like on Undertow (Prison Sex maybe?) but that's the only time I think I've heard of.

He's used other guitars when recording from time to time (I believe he used a Telecaster or Stratocaster on part of The Patient and/or Eon Blue Apocalypse), but for the most part he only uses his Les Pauls for Tool, and I'd imagine will continue that. I can't see him using additional strings.

Just imagine if Eat the Elephant had never happened....

oh well after what will be 13 years the album better be a fucking masterpiece

As for Blair I can't really hate on the guy. Having to pump out newsletters over the last 12 years while Tool did a bunch of nothing couldn't have been easy.

Yeh parabolas tuned down about 3 steps off memory. And Mog, that's a speculated 7 months, I'd be very surprised if we see the new album this year.

its definitely not a "Gold-Top".. its some sort of "natural" finished LP.

Gibson makes a 7 string Les Paul, FWIW.

For Parabol/Parabola and generally whatever other song in a set may be tuned differently, he plays a natural/"blonde" finished Les Paul. For Parabola it's tuned with the low string to B, and the second string to E. The rest of the strings are standard.

For Prison Sex, the low string is tuned to B and the rest are standard.

I know. But that doesn't mean he'd use one. Adam's pretty attached to those silverburst models he uses and doesn't seem to switch it up a whole lot. Like there's only like 5 songs where he's used something else.

I just don't really see it. Adam doesn't really seem to switch it up a whole lot. Besides extended range models aren't exactly new and it's not like Adam hasn't known about them, being a big Meshuggah fan and all. I don't buy that he'd be more likely to use one now than before just because they happen to be more trendy now.

I thought it was an interesting list up until the top 2. I don't think that either of those albums covers are the most interesting from Mastodon or Gojira, and just smacks to me of "these are two of the authors favorite albums he needed to shoehorn into the article"

It's really just a subjective list of his favorite covers. There's many there, that while nice covers I don't think really stand out in a record store.

Deloused has a solid cover.

The only ones I really have a problem are Californication and The Prodigy one. I think both of those covers are kind of bad.

Well, the readers are idiots then.

I don't mind the Prodigy one tbh though it is one of the weakest. Californication is definitely the worst on the list
