LMAO. I am picturing you at the local grab a granny pub.

Your friend would be whispering "I can't remember his name but don't bother" to her mates...

MJK biography update via Puscifer FB:

"And away we go!

It’s been a year-long journey of proposals and queries and nibbles and “nope”s, but my amazing agent, Ann Collette, never lost faith in the dream.
The agreement with Backbeat Books is a reality, and the biography of Maynard Keenan is slated for publication next fall.
Lots of work still to be done, but today’s priority: feeling grateful to everybody who’s been there for us throughout this project. That means you!"

I got the impression that it's basically a ghostwritten autobiography, he's just actually crediting the writer. That said, I can not really remember where I heard that so... shrug

Well considering the source & his feelings towards anything released with his name attached, I'd say he has at least a hand in

I wouldn't say this is ghostwritten, seems more like it's a commissioned biography approved by the subject (MJK). Miles Davis's autobio was pretty much a ghostwritten one, where Quincy Troupe penned down what Davis recited to him. This seems more like Maynard hiring someone to investigate his life and get a Zinn-esuqe take on it.

Nothing in that interview we don't really already know.

Why the same old soundbites? Why not tell us a little about the books and movies that inspired the writing of this album so we can go along on the same ride? Give readers a little meat instead of instructing them to visit and be humbled by the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon, seriously?!? That's pretty ameri-centric, who really cares?

As for the book, I will reserve judgement but I don't have any high hopes. Seems in recent years MJK has had a real agenda to convince everyone he's been a tenacious overachiever since birth, what with all the track running he did in high school, going to college, briefly joining the army and signing up to some sporadic martial arts classes over the years, i.e., life not unlike that we all live! Ego-check time...

The bit about having the writer dig into his family tree as a focus for the book is a warning sign. I've read a shit-ton of bios, the Miles Davis one mentioned above included; the most recent being that AIC book. I almost ALWAYS skim through those initial pages of "great uncle so and so had a beet farm that became very prosperous for the family, which led to me being who I am today" (hint: Ancestry.com is only interesting to you, not the masses) or you often get a lot of those "one time in high school time I pulled a hilarious prank on my buddy George and it was... hilarious" stories. Nobody cares! Sorry, we just want to know about the music and artistic/music related details. If it's a book centred around the wine, well... that'll surely backfire. Emilio Estevez, Vince Neil and Les Claypool have their own wine too, right? It's not that special and has limited appeal, surely he can understand this. If it is primarily a music bio it'll need to have hard living rock n roll lifestyle tales of debauchery and excess, coupled with an impression of the creative/technical processes behind the music we all know and love. Pretty simple equation to crack. Who knows, maybe he'll surprise us all.

Ah well, I actually find Puscifer fairly interesting, but to a point. How seriously can we take an album called 'Money Shot'? It's not exactly set up to be music with themes for the ages, despite what all the grandiose 'being awed by the majesty of rocks' statements would lead one to believe. All I ask is that an artist have enough great material to assemble a kick-ass, undeniably awesome compilation of music at the end of their run. Puscifer will probably have that; if not, there will certainly be a killer MJK double album's worth of material to compile. Can't really say the same for somebody like Billy Corgan.

Why did you ask him about something that is common knowledge?
