That was so un-EARTH that I would think long and hard about getting into them, based off of that.

I thought it was excellent, for what it's worth.

Track down "EARTH 2" on Youtube or something. That was back in the day, and it's fucking mesmerising.

Then find "Old Black" for a taste of their later era.
O love will you read the letters I will send to you.

- You like noisy music?
- Yes. The louder the better. Stops me from thinking.
- You don't like to think? What do you like?
- Never thought about it.

Well I guess that's some small consolation for not getting a gig this tour.

I am so stoked for this new release that I can't remember what else is being released this year.

Seriously. Dude's only six years older than me. Yet he looks like he could have rustled cattle back in the early 70's.

Listening to Earth 2 now. This is great. I LOVE shit like Sunn O))) and all that, so no really barrier for me in the drone department.

Faaaaack! This!

Uuuuuuuugh, so good!

Our bass player and I have been talking about doing a side project more like this because this is invariably the kind of shit we come up with when our drummer can't show up. Not comparing quality levels, obviously. But I have such a strong hankering for more droney/sludgy/heavy stuff lately along with banjos and other instrumentation. Mmmmmmmm. Can't believe I waited so long to check these guys out.

I can't get over Earth. I am just slapping myself all over the place for finally getting into bands I should have a long time ago. First High On Fire, now this. This has been a big week for me lessening my "ignorant fuckhole" gaps in music.

Hey man, better late than never. :) Though it is a little strange that it's taken this long, particularly if you dig SUNNO))). I mean, they basically started as an EARTH cover/worship band.

DYLAN CARLSON'S NEW SOUNDTRACK IS 'GOLD'

It was just a matter of time. Dylan Carlson is probably best known in has role as a member of the highly influential Earth, but the guitarist has stepped out of that role for Gold, a new film soundtrack. Latter day Earth has always had a bit of a western feel, and now Carlson will test that sound on the soundtrack for a western, available in full for the first time below. Stream all 24 tracks, intended as a single suite with separate movements, via Drcalrsonalbion's soundcloud. Order yours, definitely recommended.

Ended up going by myself. Two others cancelled as they were "too tired" (ie drug fucked from their prospective Saturday nights) and one was stuck in Hobart having missed his flight back to Melbourne (ie too drug fucked to realise what time it was).

Doesn't matter. Absolutely stunning evening. Support acts were great too. Crowd lapped it up with aplomb. New material blew my mind. And my mind rarely gets blown.

Here's my review:

Dylan Carlson. Dylan fucking Carlson.

That is all.

Thank you.

How fucking awesome was the riff in the second track he played? You know, that one-two chord riff.

It was surprisingly heavy as fuck, I thought.

Maybe it was their positioning on a bill stacked with monumental sounds, but Seattle veterans Earth felt a little underwhelming. Each song sounded quite similar, meditating on particular blues-rock scales. It was like someone playing a 45rpm cut of AC/DC’s ‘Sin City’ on 33rpm, and continually looping the intro. Guitarist Dylan Carlson possessed the look and demeanour of a Harry Dean Stanton character.

Not surprised. You either get EARTH, or you don't.
