I guess some of their radio hits are poppy but they're most just a rock band.

With a quirky lead singer. There are some great Cure songs.

I gave Revocation a chance. They are technically very proficient, and amusing at times, but I don't dig the vocals or the writing much.

Disregard Love Cats.
Almost everything post "DISINTEGRATION" has had a strong pop aesthetic. The last album was almost pure bubblegum.

Revocation are playing the GWARBQ this year and they have an interview with Dave up on their site.
3) They say the GWAR-B-Q is the “wildest party anywhere”… What are you looking forward to the most about it?

DAVE: I’m looking forward to partying with a lot of friends that I haven’t seen in awhile and checking out a bunch of killer bands. I’ve never thought I’d get the chance to play with Body Count so I’m pretty stoked for that.

Fair enough. Everything I've heard post-Disintegration has been rubbish, so you're probably right.

Is this like a backdoor pilot for The Cure thread?

Well no one seems to be interested in talking about Revocation, so we may as well talk about The Cure.

That's a bit harsh.

Looks like I'll need to start a thread soon and school y'all on one of the greatest bands of all time . . .

Ya know, many people think THE CURE are this dreary, mopey band. Sure, pre-"DISINTEGRATION" they pretty much were (see: "The Funeral Party" if you're looking for inspiration for your suicide); but Smith has written some absolutely gorgeous love songs.

I'd argue that he's managed to make an entire career balancing angst and glee - and wonderfully well.

Gotcha: Because everything before that album was a must-own for the last remnants of Gen-X.

My goal for the night is to move Revocation into the number 1 most listened to band on Last.Fm. Only 30 more tracks. Can I do it?

You should share your Last.fm username

Hopefully you can knock The Cure off the #1 spot

I actually did post it the other day in the Random Thoughts thread.

Iron Maiden is actually #1 not The Cure.

But here it is again.

Might have to change my rankings. Empire Of The Obscene is better than I remember.

Tom Strom did some artwork inspired by The Hive.

Image

Tom Strom is a tattoo artist who's done a lot of Dave's tats. He's also doing the cover for their new album.
