I've been talking up Mad Max for months now (up until the final trailer anyway), so I'm not sure what you're on about. Your opinion on things has no impact on my opinion on the same things. I think you'll find there's plenty of things on which we agree.

Mad Max : Fury Road

At times I was left with my jaw hanging only a few centimetres above the floor - just literally wtf. It is almost impossible to take it all in in one sitting. Just so much over the top non stop adrenaline.

Visually it is often nothing short of spectacular. Set designs were often otherworldly.

Now and then however, I found myself strangely underwhelmed. There's a sudden downshift in things and suddenly we're back in Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome territory - especially when the pace of the film grinds to a halt and gets all introspective and melancholic on us.

Dialogue at times is clumsily handled and often little above the standards you would expect of an after school special. Actors often just "say" their lines in turn as one would expect in a school play.

Thought the "skull and flames" icon thingy looked especially silly.

Didn't care for the ending.

Other than that it was more or less the greatest action film since....well, ever.

8.5 / 10

Tom Hardy's Max is reduced to a mere side character here however. So don't go in hoping for an "extension" of the Mad Max universe. Cos it really isn't. The film could be called Looping Tim: Fury Road or Sasquatch Billy: Fury Road and you'd be none the wiser.

It's a film first and foremost about Charlize Theron's Furiosa.

But yeah, the dialogue in this thing was woeful. Cringe worthy even. I've seen episodes of Saved By The Bell with more believable dialogue.

Sequels

In 2011, Miller and McCarthy found during the writing process for Fury Road that they had enough story material for two additional scripts. One of these, entitled Mad Max: Furiosa, had already been completed, and Miller hoped to film it after the release of Fury Road.[88] In March 2015, during an interview with Esquire magazine, Hardy revealed that he was attached to star in four more Mad Max films following Fury Road.[89] In May 2015, Miller told Wired magazine, "Should [Fury Road] be successful, I've got two other stories to tell."[90] Later in May, Miller revealed that plans for the sequel had changed and the working title for the next installment will be Mad Max: The Wasteland.[91][92]
