I wonder if the the the new record will have an instrumental track? That could further explain why Maynard isn't completely certain the "inst" are tracked. Seems like an instrumental track would be the lowest priority to finish, since Maynard would be needed for all the tracks with vocals (and his availability is to some extent limited by other projects).

Maybe, maybe not. No doubt there are segues and other elements the guys are working on that don't necessarily include Maynard.

From the tone of your post, I think the word you were looking for was degrade, not devolve as no power was transferred which is normally the case when things devolve. But you probably know all that since you already seem to be the smartest guy in the room here.
