Yes but why allow losses on property (including interest paid) to be offset against non investment income?Calfium Jay wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 12:50 am If you invest in anything as a source of income, then you can claim the expenses related to that investment. It's simple - hardly fanciful, pie in the sky "bullshit".

I did, but I didn't think it was worth the effort and disruption from work disputing all your points. Besides, I don't think anyone here are claiming Labour are perfect. The Libs sure are a long way off it though.

Re: Australian politics thread
My answer stands as it is. It's a expenses deduction against investment income. He treats it as if it's some "forgotten loophole" when in fact it's been policy since...forever.
And why on earth would you discourage / punish investment?
That's what shits me about Shorten in general. It's all attack attack attack on those who provide the wealth and not a damn word on HOW any of his policies are going to attract overseas investment in Australia. He does realize there's a "global economy" out there that Australia is connected to.
He's made minimum wage increase a centrepoint of his campaign. Yet more than 90% of the workforce is on a wage that is above the minimum rate.
And it does nothing for the 750,000 Australians currently out of a job. Any increase in the minimum is going to eventually have a knock on effect on wages above the minimum standard across the board. How does he expect business to shoulder this? Especially if there's a downturn in the global economy - a real and alarming possibility.
He also fails to mention that we have already thew second highest minimum wage levels in the developed world.
But what do I know? - I'm just some dumbass accountant who likes Merzbow.

Re: Australian politics thread
Nah, Labor party has gifted us some great things, like universal health care, apologising to the stolen generation, NBN, annual & sick leave, royal commission into child sex abuse, national awards, floating the dollar etc etc etc
You'd have to be mad to vote for the Greens.

Re: Australian politics thread
Didn't mention Christianity or "hatred" against Christianity or any perceived "phobias" against Christianity or standing shoulder to shoulder with our "Christian brothers" like they did with the attacks in Christchurch.
Back then it was all "Islamophobia" and "white supremacists" and "we stand with our Muslims brothers and "we call on the government to take a stand against racism".
Not a fucking word on any of that when it's Muslims killing Christians.
Incidentally, there have been over 5000 attacks on Christian places of worship by Muslims in the last 5 years alone.
Where are the calls of "racism" and "Christianaphobia" from the Left there?
Crickets.
