Just watched the first episode of Perpetual Grace LTD. Very promising: a bit like a Cohen piece, that sort of understated tone, and a strong cast.

Years and years is pretty good too.

Re: What are you watching? Film/TV
Unpopular opinion I guess, but I thought the new season of Black Mirror was just fine.
Re: What are you watching? Film/TV
It actually is because black mirror had always been overrated.
I've seen a lot of movies who got bad ratings at IMDb but if they had been labeled bm they would have started with +3 directly.

Black mirror season 1 was great. Halfway thru the second season I lost interest.
Nice couch. Fuck your couch.
Re: What are you watching? Film/TV
I think Black Mirror has been pretty consistent actually, no noticeable drop off as far as I'm concerned. It's not an incredible show, but most episodes hover around 7-8 out of 10 for me.

Man, I'm still digesting Neon Demon...not sure I'm ready for more Refn.
Looking forward to your review/thoughts on this one.

Re: What are you watching? Film/TV
Only God Forgives is much better then the neon demon. The latter one felt as Refn was lazy.
Lost River as a Refn/Lynch ish movie was even a lot better.

Re: What are you watching? Film/TV
Funny, I don't know that I'd ever actually recommend either movie...but I enjoyed The Neon Demon more for some reason. Maybe enjoyed really isn't the right word, but it was more memorable for some reason.
I never saw Lost River. I'll have to check it out now though. Thanks!

Re: What are you watching? Film/TV
I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a fan of Refn as it's pure Refn stretched for 13 hours, although I don't think I've seen Refn on such a sexualised bent before.
No one told me going in that over ten episodes most would be over an hour and a half and this probably would have been much better released week to week, because I feel I've done myself a disservice binge watching this. I was also on the back foot from the start as I can't stand Miles Teller and don't rate him as an actor at all, although yes he was outstanding in Whiplash, but one great role an actor does not make. He was ok in this and luckily the ensemble cast made up for him chewing (and spitting) up screen time.
This show is very slow in parts, but then goes off the rails very quickly, reminds me of the aesthetic of post rock/metal bands that slowly slowly lead their way into a cathartic moment of pure intensity/insanity. Also the slowness is also driven by the fact it's not a narrative driven story at all, sure there is a plot but as you should be well aware with Refn, you're getting a story driven by the visuals first and foremost and I have to say this is the shows greatest strength. Plenty of times the camera just pans left to right, right to left or just stays static on a scene it's almost as if you watching a living breathing painting. The soundtrack was fantastic, my personal favourite being the early 60's Ska played during any visit to the Damian's hideout.
At the end of the day the wheels fell off during episode 8 and the next 2.5 episodes just made no real sense to the story as a whole but I still enjoyed them, pretty sure they were to be fleshed pout in season 2 which I doubt we will ever get.
I'll probably give it a rewatch in a year or two limiting myself to an episode a week
7/10
Side note, it's hilarious how deep Amazon has buried this with it coming up on no suggestion lists nor their 'Amazon Original' page like all the rest of their original programs.

^Thanks for the detailed review. Truly appreciated.
Also not a fan of Miles Teller, but I'll check out the first few episodes and see if it draws me in.

Watched Us last night , Jordan Peeles latest flick. Better than get out and I enjoyed that too. This dude sure knows how to make an original movie filled with a fuck tonne of symbolism scattered in there.

Thnx @tysOn.
Finally saw Dunkirk. Aside of some cool aerial combats scenes the movie never impressed.

It was great if you didn't go in expecting a Michael Bay movie
