You're right. I'm intermediate in two languages, and fluent in one.

Yet nigger-speak stumps me every time.

Sopranos season 1; just about to watch the finale. Been so long since I've watched it I can't even remember half of it. Looking forward to new Archer today too...seems like ages since we've had new episodes.

the ONLY fucking movie that HASN'T leaked a screener yet. bastardos. No Country was on IFC last night, what a masterpiece that was. There Will Be Blood and the aforementioned Coen brothers movie both being released in 2007 made for a great year of cinema. Eastern Promises, the King Of Kong, Into The Wild, American Gangster, Rescue Dawn and Zodiac?

anyone else have a better list from a given year over the past, let's say, decade?

This year is pretty amazing. Her, Inside Llewyn Davis, Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle, The Act of Killing, Hobbit, Mud, Dallas Buyers Club, 12 Years A Slave, Blackfish... I could go on. So many good things.

Oh also, True Detective is so fucking great. I want to immediately watch the rest of the season.

got that show cued up and ready to go! "Wolf Of Wall Street" was very good. I usually give Marty's movies 3 or 4 spins until I give my real rundown. they grow on you. at least his recent ones, Aviator and Departed did. no spoiler but there was one scene in particular where some pee actually came out of my dick.

this show struck a cord with me after one episode. Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson are phenomenal.

"Stop saying shit like that." True Detective is probably the best pilot I've seen in a long, long time. Just so fucking great.

I'm excited by the idea for the series too. This story is just going to be the first season, and then the next season will be a different set of characters, different story, etc. The common thread being only that there's something that has taken place, and people will be doing detective work on it. They would've never gotten McConaughey or Harrelson if it was a multi-season commitment.

Having just got around to watching the first episode I will concur. Will be interesting to see where it goes - plenty of shows start with a bang and end with a whimper (and vice versa) but for now it's a very good start...

I think the fact they're sticking with the same director for every episode is important.

Yep. Same creative team. It's more of a "mini-series" than an actual series. The fact that this story ends after the eight episodes feels like a guarantee it's going to hold the quality, if not get better. I'd be worried about dragging the Cohle character out for a whole series, but this feels perfect.

I also really dug the Girls premiere. Something tells me I'm in a minority on this board in loving that show.

(Something also tells me I'm the only asshole to watch this shit legally, but I'm not going to tut tut about that haha)

I've tried to watch Girls but I just don't think it's funny. And the actors/writers come off as pretty pretentious.

Obviously I don't think so but it's hard to argue with that. I can certainly see why it would put a lot of people off. I find it hilarious though.
